Chapter 51: A God’s Marriage (22)

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

“Actually, this world wasn’t like this before,” Sa’gya said quietly, which interrupted Yun Chi’s thoughts.
Yun Chi looked down and was surprised that Sa’gya would suddenly remind himself of the past.
According to the facts that he knew, it seemed that there was no such thing as a change of seasons on the continent of Kaleva – and if there was, it was a long time ago. The only seasons that survived now were the harsh winters when the snow did not melt and the glaciers floated.
During the day, Yun Chi often saw Sa’gya sitting by the window, as he looked at the snow-capped mountains at sea level. Yun Chi would also stare at the thickening ice for a while when he went hunting. In other words, the power of winter became more and more powerful, and his followers were no less powerful, whether it was the Gods of Snow and Ice, the Lord of Cold, or the maidservants called dead, withered, hungry, and slack, whose control had enveloped all of Kaleva so that even the chaotic sea of ice was not immune.
“The seasonal cycle, each season had its own advantages and disadvantages. In spring, the earth and sea awoke as if from a deep sleep, though the presiding gods were filled with the drama of a shock; in summer, the heat was scorching, and that was the favorite season of the sun god, who always squandered his power recklessly, so although winter was made difficult, summer was the fastest time for everything to grow; in autumn, the harvest was luxuriant, and the fragrance of the fruitfulness could even waft over the land to the sea…”
Sa’gya slowed down, and together with Yun Chi, he looked away at the sight of the sea of clouds and murmured.
“What about winter?” Yun Chi couldn’t help but ask.
Sa’gya turned his head and continued to concentrate on his journey.
“Winter?” He smiled. “I’m only worried that although the third generation of gods and goddesses that are rising cannot be considered short, the position of the main god is delayed and yet to be finalized. If this continues, the Winter God will have to replace the Sea God as the master of this divine era, when walking in the land of Kaleva.”
Yun Chi asked, “Will the situation be worse than it is now?”
Sa’gya nodded. “Yes. The Winter God is aloof and self-absorbed, and all the Gods of the winter generations have loved the cool, silvery moon and hated the burning sun. If he were the Lord God, the world would gradually fall into eternal night, the moon would gradually take the place of the sun, and there would be no more warmth and no time for everything to grow. That situation will continue until the Mother Goddess, Irma, is alarmed, but by then, I am afraid that the earth will have long suffered hundreds of thousands of years of lightlessness, and the descendants of the creatures that have been bred won’t be adapted to a light environment.”
Yun Chi scratched his head and frowned as he sat on the back of the large sea otter.
In his days there, if the phrase, “conditions were tough” were said, it was all false information. Yun Chi ate the food and clothing on the island, the pace of life was easy and relaxed, and he was not lonely. Yun Chi ate the food and seafood, wore the same style as the main god, and when he was bored, he went to roll around in the arms of the God, whether it was a human body or a sea otter body. Sa’gya would always happily hold him and chat to relieve the boredom…
However, for some things, Yun Chi never found the opportunity to ask. It wasn’t that he was afraid to ask, but that he couldn’t bear to.
Just like now. Yun Chi missed his parents, but only until the year before they did not go away; However, when he go of the old housekeeper raised, he felt a reluctance for the last few years of the old man’s life to start – at that time, the old housekeeper had long forgotten who Yun Chi was, and also forgotten who he was. Yun Chi held the old and thin hand, shed tears silently all night long, and sang “Small Town Story” over and over again for the old man in a hoarse, untuned voice. A lullaby that the old housekeeper used to put Yun Chi to sleep when he was a child.
It was no different from reopening the scars of people who had lost their memories.
What about the Sea God of this generation? Wasn’t the position of the main god usually held by the Sea God?
As he was brainstorming in his mind, Sa’gya said, “The Sea God of the third generation died a long time ago.”
Yun Chi was stunned, “What?”
The white sea otter moved his beard and whispered to Yun Chi, “I killed the Sea God of the third generation of the gods, so the position of the Main God of this generation is still vacant.”
Yun Chi was surprised and raised his voice, “…You, you killed?”
Riding on the back of the big sea otter, he felt the muscles underneath him stiffen involuntarily. The sea otter tensed his body, looked straight ahead, and nodded imperceptibly.
Yun Chi let his mood calm down. In the end, he wasn’t a native of the world. The Main God of the Sea □ □ no matter how big his head, it was still about Sa’gya’s past. As calmly as possible, he asked, “Why? What happened then that caused you to do that?”
“He provoked hatred. I was blinded by hatred and chose revenge.”
If it were possible, Yun Chi could even describe Sa’gya’s tone as unmistakably cold, almost ice-cold, and empty as the universe, nothing and all-encompassing. That voice, more than ever, resembled that of a god.
“So,” Yun Chi speculated. “There also is no spring, summer or autumn on Kaleva, because…”
“-because I killed Him,” Sa’gya said.
Yun Chi had no words.
The long whale in the distance sounded again, and the snow waves broke, but this time what came out was not one cloud whale anymore, but a continuous group, like a magnificent cloud bridge, building a vast beauty under the vault of the sky.
What kind of god was Sa’gya?
Although Yun Chi knew in his heart that a supreme deity could not have only the three divine offices, Sa’gya himself said that those were the only three that he truly recognized in his heart.
The sea otter was a group animal, but now there was only Sa’gya left. His family. Where was his family? Where did they go?
Yun Chi hesitated for a moment and finally chose to break the silence, “Those gods…did they do something to your family…?”
It was a very rare occasion that Sa’gya did not answer Yun Chi’s question immediately. He wove through the flowing clouds for a while before he said, “They killed my clan, and I killed them in return. It should have been a very even exchange, but here’s the problem: these are gods with godly duties, and because of my impulse at the time, I didn’t leave a single inch untouched and now evil is slowly appearing…My family is in tatters, and how many families of living beings have I caused not survive this long winter?”
“This is my sin, and I therefore stripped myself of my entire priesthood and banished myself to that deserted island until you came.”
So it was the family, the community, all died at the hands of the new gods, and then he chose revenge afterwards…
“Why are you telling me this now?” Yun Chi asked. “You know, I can’t judge you, nor can I criticize you…I’m not a resident of Kaleva. These things are too far away from me, and my position will definitely lean towards you.”
“It’s just that…” Sa’gya’s voice was a little more rough. “This is where I used to catch up with the first god I pounced on. Where I caught up with the God of Hunting.”
Yun Chi felt bad when he heard the name of that god. He looked around. The green sky was bright, and the flowing clouds were dreamlike as if there was no other place in the world so pure and white. It was impossible to tell that this was the beginning of a killing spree.
“On the island, in the room, I never had enough courage to mention this to you,” Sa’gya whispered. “It is home to me. Too warm, too wonderful, too good to be true. So much so, that I felt fearful when I saw those things. I felt that it was an omen of bad luck…I don’t know what I would do, what I could do, if you suffered that fate.”
The sun was slowly approaching the horizon as the twilight closed in behind them. It was a snowy morning when they came out, and now it was dusk in the middle of the day. Time seemed to twist and turn. They chose a shortcut, and time showed them what a shortcut looked like at the same time.
“Death cannot be reversed in any way, and revenge is only the living’s account of themselves,” Sa’gya said. “It has taken me many years to finally understand the meaning of that statement.”
While Yun Chi pondered what it meant, Sa’gya pressed against the clouds and descended towards the sea of ice.
The sun was a golden ball of fire receding. It lacked the shade of grand sunlight. The sky dome showed a light blue and light purple color, while a brilliant orange-gold like the sea tide swirled overhead. At that moment, the clouds were like fire, the sea was also like fire, and the world burned quietly and splendidly, while the sky was full of faint stars, like bright diamonds shining through the veil and mist.
Sa’gya dropped down to the surface of the sea, and instead of letting Yun Chi continue to lie on his back, he drifted on his back in the sea, and let Yun Chi lie in his arms, as Yun Chi had once seen ordinary sea otter elders do with their pups.
“Look.” Sa’gya spoke.
The waves swirled and lingered, Yun Chi felt himself sleeping peacefully in a cradle of slow amplitude. He looked at the sky. The sun had completely descended, and taken away the evening sunset burn. The darkness immediately came up in a flood. The starlight was instantaneous, innumerable stars suddenly appeared on the canopy, and immediately filled the gap of sunlight.
The sun had just faded, the moon hadn’t yet risen, but the stars in the sky were so dazzling that they couldn’t wait to converge in a long, clear river of light that reflected brightly in Yun Chi’s eyes.
“There are as many bright stars as there are already extinguished stars,” Sa’gya explained. “In the past, my brothers and sisters used to float hand in hand on the sea looking at the stars…”
Halfway through, he refused to continue.
“I didn’t have parents who saw the stars together,” Yun Chi, speaking half to answer, half to change the subject. “But the old housekeeper who raised me took me when I was young to see a beautiful river of stars in the sky.”
Sa’gya asked, “What about now?”
“Because of the city lights, and a certain degree of air pollution…” Yun Chi shrugged his shoulders. “It’s hard enough to see the stars at all.”
As they talked, the white moonlight took over from the sun, and shone out from below the sea of ice. Sa’gya rolled over sharply, flipped Yun Chi onto his spine and smiled. “Keep holding on!”
Yun Chi sniffed, then quickly and skillfully clutched Sa’gya’s neck. He felt the big sea otter speed up to the extreme in a flash, and almost lifted off his body as he launched.
The huge celestial body rose out of the sea, and the moon also found their figures, found the magic of that ancient game. Ten thousand moonlights were suddenly like an invincible ray, all shining on the surface of the sea, were quickly pulled up like an unbreachable wall of ice, that spread all the way in Sa’gya’s direction, and tried to cut off their path.
“What is this!” Yun Chi shouted.
“He’s blocking us!” Sa’gya laughed. “Looks like you haven’t forgotten the rules of the game, old friend!”
Yun Chi’s soul was about to fly out of his mouth. A wall of ice clanged and plunged diagonally to the side of them, and behind Sa’gya the big waves roared and instantly a giant wave of seawater emerged, blasting out its fist and smashing the thick wall of ice to pieces.
Shattered pieces of ice, splashed sea waves in all directions, like snow blowing and vastly flooding the sky, which temporarily blocked the light of the moon.
Yun Chi only shouted a few times to vent the exhilarating excitement in his chest. Ahead of them was a small ice mountain, and Sa’gya leapt high up to it, broke through the snow layer in front of him, and landed steeply on top of it.
There couldn’t be a more exciting ice slide in the world, and the strong wind topped Yun Chi’s body. He was completely buried in Sa’gya’s violently undulating fine fleece, as he screamed all the way down.
“–fun?” Sa’gya asked loudly.
“–Fun!” Yun Chi replied loudly.
“–Like it?”
“–Like it!”
At that moment, Yun Chi’s heart was thumping wildly. He screamed and laughed again, as the happy dopamine made his entire body float like a cloud, soul to body, without being dizzy.
More than like, he simply loved it! He liked this legendary extreme sport, but also liked the experience of being together with Sa’gya. It was more like he liked Sa’gya …
Yun Chi suddenly paused.
No, this was the right place to stop. Like had many forms, not just a single meaning. Yes, like the suspension bridge effect, in the critical moment the heartbeat accelerated, it could be misinterpreted as the other side of their own heart…!
On another high slope, Yun Chi tightly closed his eyes. There was a violent bump, and once upside down, he immediately forgot what he was thinking, only let out a loud scream.
“Aaaaaaaah -!”
