Chapter 52: A God’s Marriage (23)

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

The moon actually had a sound.
Yun Chi could not describe the sound, and he thought there was no word in the world that could describe the sound of the celestial planets, but he could only say that the humming of the moon was like ten thousand drops of jade striking against a clear spring.
At that moment, along with the sound, the moon was like a super turret with no dead angle, descending on them in a constant stream of light beam attacks.
“Is this a game?!” Yun Chi shouted. “Why does it look so angry-?”
“Maybe because we used to wake her up without permission, and steal her moonlight!” Sa’gya replied loudly.
Thinking of their bowls and the sacred clothes they wore, all laced with moonlight woven by the Goddess of Weaving…Yun Chi broke down. “So that’s what you stole and gleaned!”
“Yes!” Surrounded by roaring waves, with the sea of ice roiling as if it boiled, the otter had to shout at the top of his lungs, “We were taking turns. We turned into this form, then secretly hid in the moon temple where she could not send us back, then used the time to grab a handful and run. She couldn’t catch up!”
In Yun Chi’s mind’s imagination, a scene immediately emerged: a group of sneaky big white sea otters, quietly lurking under the bed of the full moon, and waiting until the moon was asleep, then poking out hairy paws, getting a strong grip on the moonlight, and quickly grabbing it, then wriggling their round bodies and running…
So cute, but so abominable. No wonder the moon bears a grudge against you!
There was another towering iceberg ahead, and Sa’gya shouted, “Let go!”
Yun Chi panicked and was confused, “What?!”
“Let go, trust me!”
After they scampered up to the highest level of the iceberg he released his hand used to secure the mount. It could be included in the most deadly moves in history, but out of trust in Sa’gya, Yun Chi still violently opened his arms and freed himself from Sa’gya’s back.
The wind in his ears suddenly went quiet. Yun Chi wandered high in the sky. The luminous, dazzling river of stars that flowed far away had never been so close to him, as if he only needed to reach out then that watery clear starlight would drench his fingertips…
However, Yun Chi then fell straight down.
He wasn’t sure whether the sound he heard was the whistling wind or a shout from deep in his chest. However, the moment he fell, he landed heavily on Sa’gya’s back, his limbs as limp as noodles. The only thing that kept him from falling off the big sea otter’s back were the waves that floated around him.
“Well?” Sa’gya asked. “Is this fun?”
Yun Chi’s body was cold and hot, cold because of the sweat coming off of his body, hot because of the blood flowing faster inside his body, while he struggled to hold Sa’gya and gasped for breath as he laughed, “Yes, it was fun!”
After crossing another iceberg in the shape of an arch bridge, the sea before him was flat and open. The moonlight shone on the tumbling waves, making the ocean look like a sometimes smooth, sometimes fine silver ingot.
Sa’gya said, “Yes. It’s time for us to go down to the sea.”
He dove headfirst into the water, bubbles wrapping around them, then Sa’gya rolled over, took Yun Chi into his arms, and wrapped his paws and plump fur around him.
“Let’s go for a fast pass.” Sa’gya said.
Before Yun Chi could wonder what a fast pass was, the dark interior of the trench turned up a lot of murky water. The sea monster stretched a column of thick tentacles high up, waving them in turn and whipping them hard at the bubbles.
“Whoa!” They were like a light gyroscope, and the sea monster’s tentacles were like undulating and rolling waves, bouncing them forward as fast as they could. It soon made Yun Chi dizzy and he buried himself deep in the mane on Sa’gya’s chest.
Now the most Yun Chi could feel was the depths of the trench mountains’ earthquake shaking movements as the coiled deep sea monster surged up. Several huge tentacles twisted together to form a long gnarled whip, full of energy, aimed at their bubble to make a home run.
The air bubbles blasted out of the sea. The compressed and instantly released air shattered a large ice floe, and they rode the ferocious wave of air, shooting up into the sky from under the sea, then speeding through the clouds.
Yun Chi was numb. The passion of the sky had been taken to the limit, and it is not often a person would be able to withstand that much, even if they were used to extreme sports like Yun Chi. His voice was shouted hoarse, his body was also tired because of excessive exhilaration and flabby like freshly baked bread. He could only depend on Sa’gya’s embrace as a safe haven, as he curled up in it like an ostrich.
In fact, Yun Chi never even noticed the change in his body physique. Forget the ice skating, bungee jumping, and being driven by the sea monster like a gyroscope, or the previous game of Sa’gya carrying him on his back to visit the sea of clouds. All of them were things an ordinary person couldn’t survive.
Since he and Sa’gya lived together, not only was his body infiltrated by the power of the gods, but the cooking utensils he cooked with were rich copper pots and pans, and the tableware he took to eat with were prosperous silver bowls, and anyone who ate the food in the pots and pans would be able to live a long and blissful life, free from all diseases.
He had always thought that his far superior physique was a bonus brought to him by Sa’gya’s divine clothes, as if he were a small vegetable chicken in an online game, but against the odds, in the opening game had picked up legendary-grade orange clothes, and from then on had walked sideways in the novice village.
“Can you still hold on?” Sa’gya asked. “Do you want me to slow down?”
Yun Chi struggled to peel back the thick fur of the large sea otter and peered through the gap. The full moon was still chasing them aggressively and was already very close. The entity of the moon god overpowered the entire sky, and under its light, the night was not as black as silk. Except for a pure glowing white, the sky was no longer its normal color.
Yun Chi rarely burst out with foul words, “Holy shit! No, no, no! Don’t slow down! Run, run, run!”
The moon’s surface was as smooth as a mirror, and the curved shrine was visible in a dazzling halo of light.
Sa’gya burrowed into the clouds at once, trying to hide from the sight of the moon god. A blizzard of raging beams of moonlight suddenly came down in unison, beating the thick, soft clouds like scattered rags of cotton wool.
“The clouds are also divine, right?” Yun Chi couldn’t help but ask Sa’gya. “Does the Cloud God not care when it gets like this?”
“Who? Do you mean the Cloud God of the third generation?” The corners of Sa’gya’s mouth turned up and seemed to reveal a vague smile. In the past, the smiling sea otter face was always soft and very sweet, but the smile now…Maybe it was because of the backlight, but Yun Chi felt like it was not meant to be friendly. “I guess not, right? If He minds, He can come and talk to me.”
“We’ll be there soon,” Sa’gya reassured. “Hold on a little longer!”
Yun Chi squinted his eyes, and sure enough, he faintly saw a familiar lonely island on the boundless sea of ice.
“Ah, there it is!” He cheered up. “Does this mean that we’re going to win?”
Sa’gya didn’t say anything, he took Yun Chi and jumped. His body whirled to open a small round cloud umbrella, like a dandelion, which pulled them to glide in the wind.
At the same time, the sky around them filled up with countless small white umbrellas, which covered the sky in layers and layers; floating everywhere.
The Moon God appeared to be exasperated by this blinding. Light beams rained, while Sa’gya sank into the sea of ice, silent and concealed, as he moved towards the side of the island.
“Alright, home!” Sa’gya slowly stepped onto the shore, shook the water beads from his body, and looked at the moon in the sky.
“Hey!” He raised his voice and shouted, “We’re here, we won!”
The celestial body trembled angrily, and for a moment, He took to the air and returned to the height where He usually stayed.
Sa’gya sat on the beach and pulled Yun Chi down with him as he smiled. “Look. Soon a star will go out, and it will light up for the winner.”
Yun Chi gasped and leaned against the warm body of the big sea otter. He looked at the sky full of stars, like a blooming firework that illuminated the sea as if it was daylight. Even the moonlight was hidden in the starlight.
Seemingly pulled by the starlight, a dull celestial body, from below the horizon slowly rose, until it rose to the high open sky, then a whole river of light poured into that dying and dimming star.
It was bright…The bright light it emitted was like a tree of wisteria blooming in the heavenly river. It was reflected in Yun Chi’s eyes as brilliant as a flourishing flower.
“Isn’t it pretty?” Sa’gya asked.
Yun Chi’s head nodded. “Yes, it looks good.”
“From now on, this is your star,” Sa’gya said. “Every time the game is won, a long-dead star comes back to life, and then we always give it to the best family member at the game table. I have long had my own star, so today…I give this one to you. Will you accept it?”
Yun Chi froze.
He turned his head hastily and saw the diamond-like starlight inexorably shining in the pupils of Sa’gya’s eyes as he gazed at him.
Like had many forms, not just a single meaning…If Sa’gya was giving me a star, then he likes me. Who knew whether it was just a simple like, or love that used the name of “like” to cover up?
“…Thank you,” Yun Chi said softly. “I really like this gift.”
The sea otter smiled contentedly, and as they walked to the Strange House, Sa’gya consciously transformed into his other form and carried the exhausted Yun Chi to bed.
At midnight, all was silent. Through the window, Yun Chi, lying in bed, could still see the new lavender star set in the canopy of the sky. His body was tired, but his head kept spinning in circles.
“Sa’gya,” he whispered.
“…Hmm?” Sa’gya didn’t open his eyes.
“I like you, too.” Yun Chi said.
Sa’gya smiled helplessly, not sure if what the cub said was still a “more than one meaning” like.
“–what kind of like exactly?” Yun Chi’s voice, in the silence of the night, was like the tide of the sea. It seemed very calm, “I thought about it today all day, and I think, you and I are the type of like, where you are the type I like.”
Sa’gya’s eyes opened wide. Thousands of stardust blankly and erratically rotated.
Yun Chi An closed his eyes and said calmly, “Good night.”
This time, Sa’gya couldn’t sleep anymore. The god stared at the bed tent and responded dully, “…Good night.”
However, at that moment, neither of them noticed a golden mark gradually appearing on Yun Chi’s ear where Sa’gya had previously ground his teeth.
