Chapter 42: The Birth of Two little ones

Yun Yingzhi successfully gave birth to two little babies. One was a tiny bunny, the other a little egg. When they were still in the womb, Yun Yingzhi thought the little ones were probably very active and might be fairly large. But as soon as they were born, he realized… The little bunny was hairless, eyes closed, only the size of two fingers. And yet, even so small, it was slightly bigger than the little egg. The little egg was thumb-sized, completely white, looking almost like a real egg.
They were so tiny that Yun Yingzhi barely felt any pain. In under five minutes, both were born. Really—he had given birth in roughly five minutes, rounding up. Because of the sudden arrival of these little babies, Yun Yingzhi completely forgot to cry. His whole face was blank with shock.
He vaguely remembered hearing that giving birth was supposed to be excruciating. To avoid scaring himself, he had planned to check for some painless twin-birth guide closer to the due date. But he never expected childbirth to be so simple. It was ridiculously simple.
The doctor only showed the two little ones to Yun Yingzhi for a moment. Then, at his request, let him hold each one briefly. Yun Yingzhi carefully compared them: the little bunny was just the size of his two fingers, the little egg the size of his thumb. He felt uneasy, thinking these tiny little beings were extremely fragile.
After showing them to him, the doctors took the two babies away and placed them in separate nurturing pods. Soon, a dazed Yun Yingzhi was pushed into a single hospital room by the staff. Yun Yinghui stayed outside, anxiously following him in.
Yun Yingzhi sat blankly on the bed, and Yun Yinghui treated him like a patient, forcing him to lie down and covering him with a blanket. Yun Yingzhi found it awkward to speak while lying down. He tried to sit up, only to be pressed back by Yun Yinghui.
Blinking, he couldn’t stop thinking about the tiny little creatures. Worried, he asked, “Brother, have you seen the two little ones?”
Yun Yinghui shook his head. “Not yet.” He pressed Yun Yingzhi back down when he tried to get up again.
The doctor said, “Mr. Yun’s case is very special. Everything went smoothly, and the two little ones, in their own way, didn’t cause their father much trouble.”
The doctor subtly hinted to Yun Yinghui that he didn’t need to treat Yun Yingzhi like a patient. Yun Yingzhi fully understood the doctor’s meaning. Coupled with concern for the babies, he really wanted to see them now. But Yun Yinghui didn’t get the hint. He wouldn’t allow it.
No matter how hard Yun Yingzhi tried to get out of bed, Yun Yinghui always pressed him back down. Yun Yingzhi’s eyelid twitched. Realizing this wouldn’t work, he decided on a different approach to get Yun Yinghui to give in.
“Brother, I’ve seen the two little ones.” Yun Yinghui nodded. He cared more about Yun Yingzhi than the babies themselves.
Yun Yingzhi held up two fingers. “The little bunny is so tiny, no hair, hairless, so fragile—I’m really worried about him.”
Yun Yinghui looked at Yun Yingzhi’s fingers, a little surprised. “…That small?”
Yun Yingzhi nodded, then showed his thumb. “Brother, the little egg is this big.”
Yun Yinghui: “Smaller than the little bunny?”
After gently pressing Yun Yingzhi back down again, Yun Yinghui wiped the dirt off his face with care. Yun Yingzhi held his hand and said, “Brother, I’m really worried about them. Can we go see them together?”
Almost simultaneously, both felt something in the air. A strong spatial fluctuation. Yun Yinghui frowned, raising his guard. It could be dangerous. He shielded Yun Yingzhi, eyes sharp. The next moment, they saw a nurturing pod hovering in midair. Inside was…
A little white egg, slightly larger than a thumb. Just a tiny white egg.
Yun Yinghui: “….”
Yun Yingzhi: “….”
Yun Yingzhi’s face froze in shock. The pod began to fall. The scene was extremely dangerous. Yun Yingzhi’s eyelid twitched violently, his hairs stood on end, and his heart raced. Yun Yinghui thought, indeed, it was dangerous—dangerous in a different sense. He reacted quickly, catching the falling pod immediately.
Both exhaled in relief at the same time. Yun Yingzhi twitched his mouth, staring blankly at the little white egg in the pod. Yun Yinghui peered through the transparent window at the egg, then looked at Yun Yingzhi and said, “Slightly bigger than your thumb?”
Yun Yingzhi looked at the egg and then his thumb. “About the same size?” He murmured, “Looks so fragile… such a tiny egg.”
It seemed like it could break with the slightest touch. Yun Yinghui examined the little egg. He wondered what kind of egg it was. Despite being tiny and not even hatched yet, it already knew how to use spatial powers to find its father. He could almost imagine how strong the little creature would become once it hatched and grew.
If this little white egg was this strong, theoretically, the other parent of the egg should also be very powerful. How would they compare? Could he easily cut the other one down with a sword?
As Yun Yinghui pondered, another familiar spatial fluctuation surrounded the pod. Everything happened so suddenly that, by the time Yun Yinghui reacted, the pod had already moved through space a second time, landing precisely on Yun Yingzhi’s chest. Yun Yingzhi grabbed the pod. Yun Yinghui and Yun Yingzhi looked at each other, face to face.
Yun Yinghui said, “What an impressive little one.”
Yun Yingzhi touched the pod and said, “Well, it looks impressive on the surface, but brother, look at him—so tiny, really fragile.”
Yun Yinghui looked where Yun Yingzhi was pointing, reserving judgment on that statement.
Meanwhile, chaos erupted throughout the hospital. The little egg had gone missing. The newborn little bunny was so tiny, yet it kept crying.
In the hospital room, Yun Yinghui said, “Zhizhi, I’ll go tell the doctor first. The little egg is with you right now.”
Yun Yingzhi was about to respond when there was a knock at the door. Both of them looked toward the entrance and saw a nurse holding a small basket. From the basket came a low, faint cry. But the crying lasted only two seconds before stopping.
Yun Yingzhi’s eyelid twitched as he looked at the little basket the nurse was holding. The nurse glanced at the nurturing pod in Yun Yingzhi’s arms. She said, “Because your child kept crying, we thought maybe being near you would help.”
Yun Yingzhi’s gaze stayed on the basket. “He doesn’t seem to be crying anymore.”
The nurse nodded and continued looking at the little white egg in the pod. Yun Yinghui stepped forward and took the basket from the nurse. Inside was an extremely ugly little creature, tiny enough to be covered by a small blanket, with only its head poking out. The head was roughly the size of a fingernail. Smaller than a mouse.
Yun Yingzhi thought to himself: the little bunny really resembled him. Already this cute, once it matured, it would grow the softest, fluffiest, most pettable fur—a truly adorable little white rabbit. He didn’t realize that his gaze was now filtered through layers of affection. The truth was, the little bunny was completely hairless and, honestly, very ugly. Yun Yinghui held the little bunny and walked over to Yun Yingzhi.
The nurse, finally recovering from her shock, said, “Actually, I wanted to tell you that the little egg had suddenly disappeared. So it was brought here by you?” Her gaze was sharp with accusation.
Yun Yingzhi twitched his mouth, thinking she might not believe him. The little egg hadn’t been brought by him—it had boldly traversed the air on its own. While Yun Yingzhi thought this, Yun Yinghui placed the basket atop the nurturing pod.
The nurse stepped forward. “The pod has a stored-energy battery for emergencies. You shouldn’t use it casually unless necessary.”
Yun Yingzhi nodded. She continued, “I’ll take the little egg now.” She paused. “The little bunny might have to stay with you for a while. I hope that’s alright.”
Yun Yingzhi nodded blankly. The nurse tried to take the nurturing pod from Yun Yingzhi, but he held it tight, making it impossible for her to remove. She looked at him in confusion.
Yun Yingzhi, thinking of how the little egg had boldly navigated through space to reach him, said, “I think the little egg can’t leave me for now either.”
The nurse shook her head. “Sir, you can’t do this. I know you love your child, but you aren’t able to take care of him properly right now.”
What she said made sense, but Yun Yingzhi was still worried about the little egg. Especially since this tiny being had spatial powers, yet no awareness of its own safety. Its shell was fragile, and it dared to jump into midair. What if it fell?
At first, Yun Yingzhi hadn’t intended to explain that the little egg could control space before even hatching. But in this situation, he had no choice. He briefly explained the little egg’s abilities.
The nurse froze, pupils dilating in shock. As a staff member of Imperial Star Hospital, she had seen countless prodigies born here. Even so, she had never heard of a little egg controlling spatial powers before hatching. Not in reality, not even in her wildest dreams. Even hearing Yun Yingzhi’s explanation, she found it almost impossible to believe—it felt like a sudden dream materializing in front of her.
Yun Yinghui took the nurturing pod from Yun Yingzhi. “Zhizhi, the baby is still too small. I’ll go with him,” he said, pausing, “I’ll have Jun Yu watch him so he doesn’t get into trouble.”
Yun Yingzhi nodded, finally allowing Yun Yinghui to take the little egg. Jun Yu, one of Yun Yinghui’s close friends, had the power to seal spatial zones—able to block spatial travel, teleportation, and similar abilities. Yun Yinghui left with the little egg.
Another nurse entered to teach Yun Yingzhi how to care for the little bunny. The tiny bunny, only the size of two fingers, made Yun Yingzhi’s heart ache. It was pitifully small. So tiny that it could only be fed with a syringe.
Yun Yingzhi had no experience. The nurse guided him, trying to feed the little bunny with the syringe. But the little bunny refused, squeaking and crying, tears dripping down. The nurse’s forehead was dotted with sweat, anxious. Yun Yingzhi said, “Let me try?” He reached out his hands. Then… The moment Yun Yingzhi held the little bunny in both hands, it stopped crying.
The nurse: “….”
Under her silent gaze, Yun Yingzhi used the syringe to feed the little bunny. The little bunny drank enthusiastically, gulping down a lot of milk, then immediately urinated in Yun Yingzhi’s hands. His eyelid twitched, face filled with disgust.
The nurse cleaned his hands. Yun Yingzhi wiped the fragile little bunny and tried to put it back in the basket. But… the little bunny was clingy. The moment he was released, it began crying again. At first, just weak cries, but then the tears started falling.
Yun Yingzhi had no choice but to pick it up again. Instantly, it stopped crying. Soon after, he tried to put it down again, and the cycle repeated. Each time it cried when placed down, stopped when held. According to the nurse, the little bunny was very small and fragile, with possibly poor appetite. But this little one had been a voracious eater even in Yun Yingzhi’s womb.
Whenever it got hungry, it cried—even when held. The only solution was to keep feeding it. Yun Yingzhi worried: the tiny little bunny eating so much—would it be okay? He suddenly thought of himself. Growing up, he had always eaten a lot, and now he understood why Yun Yinghui had always worried about his food intake.
Recalling it, Yun Yinghui had really cared deeply for him. Now Yun Yingzhi felt the same worry for the little bunny. The little bunny, full and content, curled up and fell asleep in Yun Yingzhi’s hands. Yun Yingzhi tried once more to put it down. But with a new round of cries, he had to keep holding the fragile little bunny.
Looking at the obediently sleeping bunny, Yun Yingzhi grew concerned about the little egg. He sent a video call request to Yun Yinghui. Yun Yinghui answered. From a probability standpoint, the vast majority of people are born in their infant form, though a small minority are born in their second form.
The ratio was small, but the Imperial Star was vast, with a huge population. As a result, babies born in egg form weren’t exactly rare. All the egg-born little ones had been placed in a large newborn egg ward. Four rows of incubators lined the room, each holding a baby egg in identical nurturing pods.
Yun Yingzhi glanced around and immediately recognized his little egg. Amidst the many larger eggs, his little egg was unbelievably tiny. Suddenly, Yun Yingzhi’s eyelid twitched. He wasn’t sure if it was just his imagination, but he thought he saw the incubator holding his little egg move slightly. Yun Yinghui’s voice brought Yun Yingzhi back, and their eyes met.
“Zhizhi, don’t worry,” Yun Yinghui said. “For now, we’ll have Jun Yu watch the baby here.”
Next to Yun Yinghui and Jun Yu were two doctors and a nurse. One of the doctors smiled. “Actually, Mr. Yun, there’s nothing to worry about. Our facility is equipped with spatial-resistance measures. Unless it’s a special-type spatial ability, generally, nothing can—”
Before he could finish, everyone witnessed an astonishing sight. The little egg, along with its incubator, vanished right before their eyes.
Yun Yingzhi: “….”
On the other end of the communication line, everyone else was watching. Yun Yingzhi’s eyelid twitched violently, his hairs stood on end, bracing for the little egg’s next move. It was clear that this little egg didn’t exactly have perfect directional sense.
Jun Yu, on the other end, furrowed his brow and reassured Yun Yingzhi that he could lock onto the little egg’s location using spatial fluctuations. Yun Yingzhi nodded anxiously. If he weren’t holding the little bunny, he would have bolted out of the hospital room to find the little egg.
Right now, he thought, spatial powers were absolutely his most hated abilities—without question. A little egg with spatial powers was far too much trouble. Jun Yu relayed the little egg’s movement trajectory.
Following Jun Yu’s explanation, everyone with him could roughly understand: the little egg was exploring and trying to find Yun Yingzhi’s location. After circling the ward, the little egg finally appeared in Yun Yingzhi’s room. Yun Yingzhi, holding the little bunny with one hand, quickly scooped up the falling little egg with both arms.
He didn’t notice that the little bunny, sleeping in one of his hands, had opened its eyes the instant the little egg appeared. It glanced at the pod, pressed its tiny lips together, then drowsily closed its eyes again.
Both babies were extremely clingy. Sweat beaded across Yun Yingzhi’s forehead. Soon, Yun Yinghui, Jun Yu, and several doctors and nurses arrived at the room. The staff looked at the little egg with repeated awe. Such a tiny being, not even hatched yet, already possessed incredible abilities.
Jun Yu furrowed his brow and explained to Yun Yingzhi: Spatial powers had tiers, and although the little egg was small, its spatial ability was among the rarest and highest. It could bypass nearly all spatial locks.
In a combat scenario, Jun Yu’s spatial ability could block a large area, which the little egg could not breach. But Jun Yu couldn’t maintain that high-intensity defense against the little egg all the time. Yun Yingzhi understood.
The little egg’s spatial powers were hard to contain, and Jun Yu couldn’t maintain constant vigilance—there was no such thing as guarding forever. Yun Yingzhi furrowed his brow and looked at the doctors. They exchanged glances. The two newborns were too clingy. There was no choice: both had to stay with Yun Yingzhi for care. The doctors and nurses left.
After the door closed, Yun Yingzhi overheard a nurse outside. “I’ve seen so many newborns, but these two are the clingiest I’ve ever seen.”
“Yeah, and their dad is really good-looking too,” another nurse added. Amid their sighs, Jun Yu and Yun Yinghui observed the two babies. Yun Yingzhi’s ears twitched. He overheard the doctors outside discussing him: he was perfectly healthy. Literally very healthy. He didn’t even need to stay hospitalized, but because the two little ones were so small and attached to him, he had to remain in the room.
Yun Yingzhi thought about it. He had never had a particularly strong constitution, but as a military academy cadet, years of training had made him slightly more robust.
Jun Yu tried to hold the little bunny from Yun Yingzhi’s hands. But the moment it left him, the bunny cried—and then… peed in Jun Yu’s hands. Jun Yu’s mouth twitched as he silently returned the tiny peeing bunny to Yun Yingzhi. The little bunny immediately stopped crying.
Jun Yu sat on the bed, coolly asking Yun Yingzhi about the other father of the two babies. Yun Yingzhi’s eyelid twitched, aware of Yun Yinghui’s gaze. He paused, then deftly changed the subject.
Soon after, Nangong Qing and the others came to the room to see the two babies. Yun Yingzhi was obedient with his elder siblings, but when they asked about the other father, he played dead.
Not long after, Yun Yingzhi discovered how frustratingly clingy the little bunny could be. He wanted to go to the bathroom. He tried handing the little bunny to Yun Yinghui or someone else, but the bunny would cry, tears falling. It was heartbreaking. He had no choice; he couldn’t take the bunny with him.
After reluctantly letting go, he dashed to the bathroom—and felt a spatial fluctuation. He knew that sensation well. Yun Yingzhi’s mouth twitched. Luckily, he had finished in the bathroom. He hurriedly pulled on his pants, scooped up the nurturing pod in both arms, and held it close.
Through the door, he could hear the little bunny crying. Jun Yu said, “The little egg ran off to find Yingzhi.”
Yun Yingzhi took a deep breath, placed the little egg aside, and washed his hands. Outside, Nangong Qing’s voice called, “Yinghui, the baby peed on you—wipe it off!”
Yun Yingzhi paused mid-motion, feeling subtly that the little bunny was doing it on purpose. He took another deep breath, dried his hands, and stepped out of the bathroom, holding the little egg. Sensing his approach, the little bunny’s cries grew noticeably weaker.
Yun Yingzhi set the nurturing pod down and sat on the bed. He reached toward Yun Yinghui, intending to pick up the little bunny.
But… At that very moment, the nurturing pod moved on its own, teleporting straight onto Yun Yingzhi’s chest. His eyelid twitched. His hand was still a short distance from the little bunny. The little bunny seemed to sense that Yun Yingzhi was about to hold him. It stopped crying. Then, centered on the pod, a ripple of spatial energy spread, and the little egg performed another spatial jump—with Yun Yingzhi holding it.
The distance wasn’t far—just into the bathroom. Meanwhile, Yun Yingzhi heard the little bunny crying at full volume again. Yun Yingzhi: “….” He looked down at the little egg cradled in his arms.
Outside the door, Nangong Qing commented, “That impressive little egg—already knows how to compete for attention before even hatching.”
Inside the transparent dome, the little white egg… No, not seemed—it actually spun around in circles, then spun again, clearly looking quite proud of itself. Outside, the little bunny’s cries grew even louder.
Yun Yingzhi took a deep breath and carried the nurturing pod out. The little egg performed another spatial jump, bringing Yun Yingzhi into the bathroom, giving itself a private moment with Dad—completely monopolizing him.
Outside, the little bunny paused, let out a single “Awooo,” and then resumed crying even louder. Yun Yingzhi’s mouth twitched. Suddenly, he felt like it would have been easier if both babies were still in his womb. He really wanted to put them both back in.
