Chapter 29

Kichirou stared at the paperwork in his hand as he walked along the street on his way home. He was terrified. Absolutely terrified. How was he going to be able to take care of a child? What would happen if this child became just like him? An omega? He began to panic as he thought about all of the things that could go wrong with having a child.

How would Jun react to this? He was still in college, and he didn’t have time to help take care of a child. He needed to focus on his school life, not worrying about Kichirou and a child. A child. His and Jun’s child. Kichirou felt himself hyperventilate. He was incredibly excited at the thought, but also more terrified than he had ever been in his life.

The paperwork in his hands said he was already at least two months pregnant. With this nausea that hit him every day, that meant he had to endure this for another seven months? Suddenly, that felt like a long time. But, the thought, that at the end of this road, he would be able to hold a baby in his arms. It was an emotion he had no idea how to describe.

Kichirou was afraid to tell Jun about the baby. Wouldn’t telling him mean that he would focus less on his final exams coming up? Wouldn’t that decrease his chances of becoming a lawyer for omegas like he had always wanted. To defend those like his sister and Kichirou who couldn’t defend themselves. So, as he walked along the busy streets, holding a hand against his stomach, keeping the nausea at bay, he decided that he would not tell Jun until his exams were over. That was only in another month, he’d be able to hide it until then, right?

~~~~
“Kichirou, you threw up again this morning, are you sure you are okay?” Jun was rubbing Kichirou’s back as he sat on the living room floor with his head between his knees. Jun’s face was creased with worry. Kichirou had not been looking very well these last few weeks, but anytime he brought it up, Kichirou would wave him away, telling him that the doctor said it was just a adverse reaction to some medication he was taking. Jun wondered why Kichirou didn’t ask his doctor for a different medication, but he kept it to himself.
“I’m okay.” Kichirou whispered into his knees. When he pulled his head away, his cheeks were flushed red but his face was alight with color. Jun leaned over and kissed his forehead.
“I’ve got my exam in an hour. Do you need me to take you to the doctor?”
“I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about me and go take your test. If I still feel like this tomorrow, I’ll go in.”
“Nothing is more important than you, Kichirou. I can skip the exam.”
“Don’t you dare. There will always be something more important than me. I don’t want me to be the reason you don’t pass your exam. Please, just go ace it, and worry about me later?” Kichirou’s voice was soft but firm, and Jun could hear the love in every word, and he knew that he was right. Today was an important day, he needed to let nothing stand in his way.
Jun leaned over and kissed Kichirou’s forehead again. “I’ll be back as soon as I finish, okay?”
“Go,” Kichirou waved his hand out, putting his head back between his legs. “Love you.” He murmured. Jun looked at Kichirou’s figure, curled into a ball and felt his heart squeeze.
He would ace this test for Kichirou. For their future together. With his mindset, Jun left to go take his final exam, trying not to worry about how sick Kichirou had been.
~~~

Several hours later, as Jun got home, Kichirou had not moved from his spot on the floor. He was sleeping, curled into a ball, looking exhausted. Jun rushed over and reached out a hand, feeling for a fever, but did not find one. Jun shook Kichirou awake and as those bright blue eyes fluttered open, he was greeted with the most precious smile he could ever have received.

“How’d you do?” Kichirou mumbled sleepily. Jun reached down and picked Kichirou up. He seemed like he had gained some weight, which, Jun thought, was probably a good thing.

“The exam was a breeze. I’m 80% sure I passed.”

“Only 80%?”

“I’d say 100% but then that would make me seem too cocky.”

“Mmmm,” Kichirou whispered, cuddling his head into the crook of Jun’s neck. “Congrats.”

“Don’t congratulate me yet. I don’t have the results.” Beside him, Kichirou stiffened and he slowly looked up into Jun’s eyes.

“Speaking of results….I have some to share with you.”

“Results?” Jun watched as Kichirou got up and went over to a drawer in the kitchen before pulling out a few pieces of paper. He then walked over and handed them to Jun. Jun took them, highly confused. When he read the first few lines. He froze where he was. Unable to even breathe.

“You’re pregnant?” Kichirou just nodded, and a hand slowly moved down to his belly, which still had no signs of showing. Jun glanced down at the paper again and one thing on there changed his mood completely. His grip tightened on the paper, almost crumpling it. “You’ve known for a month? Why did you not tell me!!”

“I didn’t want to get in the way of your exam.”

“Get in the way! How in the world would this have gotten in the way!? No wonder you’ve been sick! Why didn’t you tell me, Kichirou!?” Kichirou slightly backed away as if he had been shocked by lightning. He hadn’t realized that this information would make Jun so angry. “Am I not your mate? Why didn’t you tell me as soon as you knew?”

“I thought it would be better for you.”

“Did you not think I would be happy about this? Did you think I would tell you to get rid of the baby? Do you really think I am that heartless?”

“But-”

“Enough!” Jun snarled, and threw the paper to the floor. Before Kichirou could get in another word, Jun stormed out of the apartment, slamming the front door behind him.

Kichirou felt the nausea come back, and he slid to the floor, holding a hand over his mouth as his hand shakily reached out toward where his phone was on the table.

~~~
Jun sat in a bar, knocking back his second drink, stirring angrily at the melting ice. He was mad that Kichirou had kept it from him. But, as he thought that Kichirou was actually carrying his child, his blood boiled and waves of possessiveness flowed through his veins. Jun put a hand to his forehead and sighed. Next thing he knew, something had slammed into the back of his head, making him whack himself in the face. Angry, he turned around ready for a fight, but the sight that greeted him left him frozen.
Hayato, Rei and Ren were all standing behind him. Hayato had an angry expression on his face with his arms crossed over his chest as he stood behind Rei. Rei had been the one to hit him and his face was neither happy nor mad. Ren was actually the only one who looked happy. In fact he was snickering into his hand.
“Why’d you run away, you IDIOT!” Rei yelled, slapping Jun up beside the head again.
“Why do you keep hitting me!?” Jun yelled back, Rei reached out and hit him again.
“Because you’re an idiot, idiot!!”
“OUCH!” This caused Ren to giggle again into his hand but suddenly, his smile disappeared.
“You really hurt Kichi again, you asshole. How many times are you going to hurt him before you are satisfied?”
“I didn’t mean to. I’m just scared.” Jun admitted, staring down at his hands. Ren reached forward and yanked the younger man up by his collar.
“You’re scared? About the baby?” Ren hissed, angry.
“Babies are a blessing,” Hayato chimed in, his big frame a huge contrast between his soft voice and words, “There is no reason to be afraid.”
“And why didn’t you just tell him you were afraid?” Rei asked, his head tilting.
“How do you think he has felt keeping it to himself for a month.” Ren hissed into Jun’s face, still holding him by his collar. “Don’t you think he’s been terrified as well?”
“Kichirou’s scared?”
“Of course he is!” Ren bellowed, attracting the eyes of all of the customers. “ He told you he was pregnant and you immediately bailed on him! He’s terrified!”
“I didn’t mean to….but I was mad.”
“Who the fuck cares, JUN! GO! Go to Kichirou!”
“Go share your fears with each other.” Rei stepped forward and slowly pulled Ren’s fist off of Jun’s collar. “That’s why you both are there right? So that only one of you doesn’t have to carry everything by himself. Share your worries, your anxieties. It’s what being a family means.”
“Family?” Jun whispered, thinking about the baby Kichirou was carrying.
“Isn’t that what you two are? Even the three of us here?” Rei smiled, and patted Jun on his cheek, “Aren’t we all family?”
Jun felt tears filling his eyes. He had never had family before, and he had almost just screwed everything up.
“Go,” Hayato said. “Go to him.” Nothing else needed to be said as Jun shot up out of his seat and dashed out the door. The three were left behind him, watching as that desperate back disappeared.
“The two of them are idiots.” Ren grumbled before he hailed the bartender asking him to give the three of them a shot of tequila.
I should be commenting on the family that’s about to form but I was more happy that Jun found something he wants to do in his life. Hopefully he’ll be successful in his career. I bet that job is gonna be tough, both the mission of helping omegas and the psychological stress.
Also Ren is as cute as ever bro.
And sorry, Rei, I think I called you Rin once. I honestly couldn’t remember and I admit I was lazy to search.
Also Hayato best husband. I imagine him very pretty and cool.
Jun always wanted a family. The one he had was pitiful. His dad abandoned him, his stepmother tried to get rid of him, and now he had a chance to have a real, loving family of his own. It’s good those three nice guys were there to smack some sense into him. Thank you for the chapter
Such a sweet story of friendship and love. Jun being afraid makes so much sense. Gaining so much has to make him terrified of losing it.
