Even though he had anticipated it, when Lyss saw the message from the other party, he fell into silence.
Lu Xingye had once asked him, during their first meeting, if he was Sekaninaite. He later mentioned that everyone who had seen him had died. So what was the deal with Sekaninaite? Could it be that Sekaninaite was merely the mastermind behind the scenes, and had never truly met Lu Xingye? As for how he knew that Lu Xingye was around…
There were too many ways. Whether it was the officials within Triss with hidden motives or the information leaked by Wu Jiu, who was released by them at Starfall Sea and worked for Dr. Qiu, there were motivations for the Empire to report this information.
If Lyss truly wanted to keep it a secret, he could have done so completely, but he didn’t. Just as Lu Xingye said, a calculated move. Lyss had been waiting, waiting for the Empire to bring him bargaining chips.
But when that day finally arrived, Lyss hesitated. He remembered Lu Xingye’s words from the previous night, the bright-eyed look he gave him, the days without a proper meal, and the seven days spent on the starship.
In the end, Lyss replied, “I still stand by what I said. You are not qualified to discuss a trade with me. Let the royal family send someone to negotiate with me.”
With these words, Sekaninaite fell silent immediately. As Lyss had guessed, the one responsible for hunting down Lu Xingye and his mother years ago should have been Sekaninaite. In pursuit, his people suffered casualties, almost all of them were killed by Lu Jin, and both Lu Jin and Lu Xingye disappeared at that point.
To report to the Empire, Sekaninaite fabricated the illusion that both had died. He had barely deceived the high-ranking officials at that time, but he had no bodies and no solid evidence.
So over the years, he was gradually marginalized, moving from the Empire’s dark side to becoming an ordinary diplomat.
Now he urgently needed Lu Xingye to give them an opportunity, hence the risky and private contact with Lyss.
In the following days, Sekaninaite did not contact Lyss again, disappearing as if they hadn’t appeared at all.
Lu Xingye was still in the military, and for the first week, he was forbidden from using any communication tools. Therefore, Lyss did not receive any messages from him.
Every evening, Lyss returned home as usual, took a shower, ate nutrient paste, recalled the day’s work, and then went to sleep. This had been his routine for almost ten years, regular and calm.
Without the noisy little dog, Lyss should have felt more peaceful, but for some reason, he felt like something was missing. The icy-sweet nutrient paste became hard to swallow, and sometimes he even felt nauseous after forcing it down. In these moments, the bitter tea aroma became a slight comfort. Lyss felt the emptiness and loneliness in his home for the first time. He sat quietly on the sofa after taking a shower, contemplating the next steps while holding the two chips.
What Lyss didn’t tell Lu Xingye was that after reading these two chips, his own code underwent significant changes, including a blurry memory.
In that memory, Lyss “saw” his younger self in a vast and empty world. Strangely, he wasn’t afraid; instead, he felt incredibly accustomed, as if he were meant to be there. At the end of the memory, a faint voice came from outside the “world,” and Lyss “saw” himself lifting his head gently, saying, “Mother.”
The memory abruptly ended there, and Lyss found himself in unprecedented contemplation.
Could artificial beings have mothers? Was he really an artificial being? Or was there some hidden truth in all of this?
Triss and Starfall Sea’s code was not extensive. Lyss had a hunch that once he gathered all the code, he would fully remember his past.
If what Sekaninaite said was true, the remaining two pieces of code were in Serica and the Empire.
One night, Lyss lay on his bed alone, pondering for a long time, almost sleepless for the entire night.
The next morning, he opened his eyes slowly, and a night of contemplation led him to an unprecedented determination.
A month later, on a Friday, Lyss walked into the headquarters with a calm expression. A conversation from the corner reached his ears, “I heard… the Chief sent his alpha to the military?”
“I heard that too… looks like the rumors are true. I didn’t believe them at first.”
Just as Lyss was about to step forward, he halted at these words. The conversation continued beside him:
“What rumors?”
“Didn’t you hear? The guards who went out with the Chief said that the alpha the Chief brought back wasn’t an original breed, it seemed to be some canine.”
“Really? Didn’t they say that there were no canines?”
“I’m not sure, but didn’t the Chief take leave before… and even after his return, his alpha still hasn’t completed the marking. There’s definitely a low compatibility between them. I think those rumors might be true.”
“It makes sense. If there’s zero compatibility between different races, the marking can’t be completed. No wonder the Chief sent him away. So, do you think Marshal Hilton has a chance or…”
The person was enthusiastically gossiping, but before they finished, a voice interrupted, “Anyone else?”
Both froze in place, cautiously turning their heads, inevitably meeting the icy-cold golden eyes. They almost choked on their breath.
“Ch-Chief, good day!” one stuttered nervously.
“Who spread the news?” Lyss asked coldly.
The two trembled, “The guard… no, wait, it was from the military.”
Seeing Lyss not arriving at the office for a while, Lillia hurried down to greet him. She spotted Lyss cornering the two individuals for questioning and quickly approached, “Chief, there’s a message for you from the stars.”
The two individuals saw Lillia as if she were their savior, signaling desperately to her.
Lyss glanced at them, and they immediately fell silent.
“Lu Xingye is just working in the military, not being demoted,” Lyss frowned, “I don’t want to hear any further discussion about this in the future.”
No one expected Lyss to intervene this way. The two were stunned for a moment before nodding obediently, “Yes.”
Lyss walked with Lillia towards the office. “Who sent the stellar message?”
Lillia looked hesitant and, checking that nobody was around, leaned in and whispered, “The Imperial Prince, Anderson Manson.”
Lyss paused for a moment, nodded, then pushed the door and walked into his office. Lillia didn’t follow him in because she knew that matters involving the secrets of the Empire were beyond her knowledge.
Lyss spent the entire afternoon in the office, and nobody knew what he had discussed with the Crown Prince of the Empire. The only thing everyone was clear about was that on the same afternoon Lyss ended the conversation, both parties simultaneously announced plans for joint military exercises.
Since Triss was expelled from the Empire three hundred years ago, this was the first time both sides engaged in joint military exercises. The council wasn’t even aware of this matter. When they found out that Lyss had reached an agreement with the Empire behind their backs, the council was furious and immediately demanded to convene an impeachment meeting. Lyss refused, citing the next day as a holiday.
It felt like throwing a punch in anger and hitting cotton; the council’s elderly members were so frustrated they wished they could storm into Lyss’s office and confront him. Lyss had already left on time for the day, and when an official came with documents to find him, they were surprised, “The Chief isn’t working late today?”
“Yeah,” Lyss bluntly replied, “my alpha is coming home today.”
The person was left stunned by his response, and by the time they regained composure, Lyss had already gone far away.
Returning home, after taking a shower and changing into pajamas, Lyss quietly sat on the couch. He occasionally glanced at the clock, understanding for the first time in his life what “anticipation’ and “longing’ truly meant. It felt somewhat novel, he thought, but oddly satisfying.
Luckily, someone didn’t make him wait long. As soon as the time arrived, the sound of unlocking the door came from outside.
Lyss looked up, meeting the gaze of Lu Xingye, who entered carrying luggage. Rushing home, Lu Xingye had finished his task exceptionally early today, starting back an hour earlier. He had planned to hurry home, take a shower, prepare dinner, and surprise Lyss. Unexpectedly, upon opening the door, he found the beautiful figure sitting calmly on the sofa.
Lu Xingye felt like he was dreaming for a moment. He carefully closed the door, walking into the room as if he were tipsy, “Why did the Chief leave work so early today?”
“Waiting for you,” Lyss replied directly.
Lu Xingye never dreamed he would receive such an answer and blushed on the spot. His tail and ears uncontrollably perked up, resembling a pet unexpectedly performing for its owner.
The poor luggage was tossed aside by Lu Xingye, whose excitement was palpable. He dashed to Lyss, who instinctively leaned back, quickly using his tail as a barrier, “You should go wash—”
Before finishing his sentence, Lu Xingye directly embraced Lyss. The fluffy white tail, still carrying a hint of fragrance after being washed, was squeezed between the two, and the electrifying sensation caused Lyss to subconsciously raise a hand to push him away.
But just as Lyss’s hand landed on Lu Xingye’s shoulder, the young wolf’s passionate kiss came crashing down.
“Um—”
Forced by the kiss, Lyss reluctantly leaned back against the sofa, letting the young wolf explore with his lips and tongue.
Not having seen each other for a month, Lu Xingye’s kissing skills had improved significantly, possibly the result of practicing in his mind day and night.
The ambiguous sounds of affection echoed in the living room. Lyss couldn’t help but encircle the shoulders of the person on top, half-closing his eyes as he endured the alpha’s eager advances.
Perhaps influenced by Lu Xingye’s emotions or comforted by his pheromones, Lyss gradually felt the coldness of the past month fading away.
The kiss lasted a long time, but Lyss didn’t resist further. When Lu Xingye reluctantly withdrew, he cleared his throat and said firmly, “Go shower. Now.”
Lu Xingye had expected that the moment he kissed Lyss, he would be pinned down and scolded. He never imagined the Chief would indulge him so.
“Yes, Sir.” The spoiled wolf playfully pinched Lyss’s buttocks. “I lost over twenty pounds worrying about you in the military, and here you are, getting fat behind my back, Chief. It’s truly heartbreaking.”
Lyss paused at his words, “You misunderstood. Go wash up.”
“I already did before coming here,” Lu Xingye tried to playfully dodge the situation, but a cold glance from Lyss immediately made him change his tune, “My mistake, I’ll go wash now.”
Saying this, he promptly stood up, picked up his luggage, and went upstairs. Just as he ascended, he asked, “What do you want for dinner tonight?”
Lyss thought for a moment and replied, “Dumplings.”
“Got it.”
Finally, the young wolf went upstairs. Recalling Lu Xingye’s unintended comment, Lyss lowered his gaze towards his body.
For a month now, loss of appetite, increased sleep, and symptoms resembling estrus…
After a long contemplation, he got up and walked into the bedroom.
Closing the bedroom door, he silently untied his pajamas. After hesitating for a moment, he placed his hand on his collarbone.
The room suddenly brightened, and Lyss, lips pressed together, looked up at the floating code. He slowly shifted his gaze until a set of never-before-seen code caught his eye, causing him to freeze on the bed.
The meaning of that code was—【Pregnancy】
Author’s note:
It happened, it really happened this time!

I love these 2 and how LX positively affects Lyss.
Lyss’s affection for LX, so new to him, is heartwarming too. It’s so satisfying when he stands up for him.
A baby should be wonderful news, but knowing what’s coming from the novel’s Summary… 🥺
Thank you both for the chapter.
