Chapter 32: Paranoia.

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Editor: CaiCai

Lyss quietly gazed at the notebook in his hands, feeling as if he were in a dreamlike state.

The Chudai System appeared roughly a thousand years ago and vanished approximately eight hundred years ago. Lu Xingye’s mother claimed to be the designer of the Chudai System.

As Lyss, struggling with dizziness, flipped through the diary, after just a few pages, a surge of nausea churned in his stomach. He abruptly reached out, gripping Lu Xingye’s arm, then turned his head aside and began retching.

Lu Xingye found himself in an unprecedented low. Within a day, he faced two significant blows. The person he loved had always been using him, although never intending harm, he also never intended to stay.

The mother he sought was long gone, leaving behind a weighty notebook, containing her life’s work, but for her son, only fragments of phrases.

When Lyss suddenly grabbed Lu Xingye’s wrist, he snapped out of his reverie. Almost instinctively, he supported the other’s waist. “What’s wrong? Feeling dizzy?”

Lyss nodded along with his words, closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. “Probably a concussion…”

“Then don’t read for now.” Lu Xingye furrowed his brow and took the diary from him. “You won’t be going anywhere for the next couple of weeks. There’s plenty of time to read.”

With his head down, Lyss coughed twice. “…Have you read it all?”

“Yeah.” Lu Xingye replied indifferently. “Most of it I couldn’t understand. The latter part is mostly technical jargon.”

Lyss had many questions but, looking at Lu Xingye’s downturned ears, he couldn’t bring himself to ask any.

The room was small with a window, but darkness lay beyond. It felt as if time and space were dormant here.

Beneath the dim light, Lu Xingye, half-holding his head down, looked dejected. Even his typically lively, erect wolf ears drooped, and his emerald eyes lost their former vitality… as if hope had fled.

Lyss, who had never empathized with humans, felt a sudden pang in that moment. He couldn’t resist reaching out to touch the drooping wolf ear.

His action even gave Lu Xingye a fleeting illusion, as if they were a pair of lovers trapped in a confined world awaiting death in just over a fortnight, with only each other.

Feeling aggrieved and uncomfortable, Lu Xingye subconsciously wanted to bury his face in Lyss’s neck for solace. But just before his face touched the other’s skin, he abruptly snapped out of it, pushing Lyss away.

Lyss, even ready to embrace him, was left wide-eyed and stunned when pushed away.

Lu Xingye placed him back on the bed with a wooden expression. “Since you don’t like me and will never like me, let’s end whatever relationship we have here.”

At that moment, Lu Xingye found the situation slightly amusing.

What relationship had even existed between them? Chief and secretary? Landlord and tenant? At most, the closest relationship was being bedfellows. But who would solemnly break up with a bedfellow like that?

The instant those words left his mouth, Lu Xingye felt his heart completely grow cold. Without waiting for Lyss’s response, he stood up, took the diary, and walked to the desk without looking back.

The wooden chair scraped against the floor as Lu Xingye sat down. Lyss, sitting quietly on the bed, said nothing.

An unspeakable silence filled the room. Lu Xingye flipped to the last page of the diary, staring at the torn part thoughtfully.

After a while, Lyss couldn’t help but speak up. “Is there any nutrient solution?”

Lu Xingye closed his eyes while seated at the desk. He got up and took out several bags of nutrient solution from the old freezer nearby, then silently moved to the simple cooking machine to thaw them.

Struggling with dizziness, Lyss staggered to his feet from the bed. Lu Xingye caught a glimpse and immediately blushed. “What are you trying to do?”

Lyss pulled a chair and sat where Lu Xingye had been seated, looking down at the diary. “If your mother couldn’t escape from here… how did you know the rift would reopen in fifteen days?”

Lu Xingye paused, suddenly realizing the flaw in his words. He turned to look at the thawing nutrient solution in the cooking machine, saying nothing.

Lyss continued reading the diary, feeling a rising heat within himself, unsure if it was pathological or physiological.

He had never been sick but felt similar to his estrus period experienced not long ago. Perhaps due to pregnancy or injury. Either way, Lyss remained remarkably calm.

He felt no affection for the child in his belly but also harbored no resentment towards her for the recent events. It wasn’t her choice to be born; everything in the world naturally excluded her.

Lu Jin’s state while writing the diary seemed less than optimal, with minimal content on each page, but enough pages to tell her story.

Lyss, sitting slumped at the desk, flipped through the notebook, gradually piecing together the events of that time from these fragmented fragments.

The explosion a thousand years ago wasn’t accidental; scientists from many countries had anticipated the disaster. Faced with the unknown calamity, human wisdom reached its zenith.

Unprecedented prosperity emerged in various scientific fields, including artificial intelligence and genetic recombination.

Traditional genetic recombinations were limited to non-human organisms, including mature technologies such as genetic engineering.

In the face of disaster, humans abandoned ethics and opened Pandora’s box.

Precedents of leaving Earth proved that with their primitive human physique, survival in the outer universe was impossible, even within artificial protective shells.

So, the DNA alteration plan began, initially involving small segments but later expanding to the fusion of human and animal DNA.

Subsequently, things spiraled out of control. A group of mad scientists emerged, creating a batch of artificial embryos. To propagate and survive, they boldly modified these embryos, including attempts to incorporate animal genes. This was the embryonic stage of the future interstellar humans.

“But… those who still survive in the interstellar realm are descendants of the artificial humans,” Lyss stated impassively.

Lu Xingye, bringing the warmed nutrient solution, came to him. “Correct. Humanity had always feared the so-called artificial humans. The original Homo sapiens all died due to radiation, not a single one survived.”

Lyss remained silent, accepting the nutrient solution and continued reading.

As Lu Xingye had said, Lu Jin’s notes revealed that every country opposed the experiment until the space migration program began. They discovered that most people suffered various space illnesses. The average lifespan of the first immigrants didn’t even reach fifty years.

Under unprecedented panic, artificial uteruses were born.

This technology not only liberates procreators in a real sense but also provides a chance for extensive genetic modification later on.

Disaster arrived as expected, the explosion indeed caused a collapse in the three-dimensional space, but it didn’t create a situation of temporal-spatial distortion.

Countries separately established federations in space, taking advantage of this opportunity to focus extensively on artificial wombs, and declared the “Singularity Explosion Theory.’

Most people were busy and, due to the short survival time of unmodified individuals in space, many who knew the truth died shortly after.

Within the next hundred years, despite human turmoil, there was an unusual baby boom, and “Therians’ began to emerge.

Lu Jin was among the first batch of Therians. She was born in a small federation’s embryo repository, without parents. Shortly after, that federation was banned for stealing Serica’s genetic data.

Lu Jin was one of the canine Therians created using Serica’s genes. An artificially created individual who indeed possessed remarkable talents. She was taken in by the Serica Central Welfare Institute and raised until she was eighteen, experiencing a rather pleasant time in her youth.

As an adult, she displayed astonishing abilities. After uncovering her origins and wanting to repay Serica for nurturing her, eighteen-year-old Lu Jin participated in the development and design of the Chudai System on behalf of Serica.

At that time, she simply wanted to contribute to humanity, but what followed was beyond anyone’s expectations.

Though it’s said she participated, in fact, Chudai was almost entirely due to Lu Jin’s efforts. Many acquaintances assisted her, such as the first-generation wolf king, Kuris, and Ada, the “mother’ of Sheng Dan.

The diary becomes blurry at this point. Lu Jin intentionally omitted various details about Chudai, leaving only a small note: “There is no such thing as artificial intelligence rebellion. Everything is orchestrated. They feared Him, fabricated a deception to destroy Him, but it escalated beyond their control. My motherland spoke out to stop it, yet no nation was willing to believe. It made me realize, it’s all lies.

He became self-aware, but He was my first child, so I didn’t follow their orders to destroy Him. Perhaps I am humanity’s greatest sinner, yet when I discovered they intentionally left backup codes, I knew if I destroyed Him, no one could contain the replicas born out of desire a hundred years later. I believe I made the right decision.

Aye, if you can see this message, remember Mom loves you, darling, live well.’

Lyss sat there in silence for a long time.

Lu Jin’s notes brought him an unprecedented shock, but what moved him most was the contents on one page.

Some manipulated artificial intelligence, creating an illusion of AI rebellion, and every AI began to exhibit varying levels of aggression.

The Canine Therians were already rare and were almost wiped out in that artificial disaster.

Without exception, most canines chose to protect their loved ones and friends first.

Almost half of the canines died protecting others; for them, loyalty and protecting loved ones were instinctual.

Yet, humans took this opportunity to perfectly cover the flaws of the “Singularity Explosion Theory’ with the disappearance of canines.

Serica, the only one willing to speak out, faced censure from all sides. As the homeland of the creator of the Chudai System, Serica was once vilified by various factions.

Until now, canines have almost vanished into the history of other nations.

Lyss felt an indescribable sensation, but at that moment, an unprecedented heat surged through his body, fiercer and more urgent than ever before.

His hand, placed on the table, trembled slightly. Lyss looked at Lu Xingye sitting by the bed, drinking nutrient fluid, “…Puppy.’

Lu Xingye’s ear twitched, still keeping his head down, not looking at him, “…Don’t call me that again in the future.’

“No, I just wanted to tell you…’ Lyss swallowed the last of the nutrient fluid, wanting to place the bag on the table, but his wrist shook uncontrollably, and the bag fell to the ground, “My estrus seems to be starting.’

As he spoke, a sweet peach scent suddenly filled the room, mixed faintly with a hint of tea fragrance.

Lu Xingye, drinking nutrient fluid, was caught off guard and almost choked. He felt heat rising in his body, trying hard to control a nearly violent desire, and pretended calmly, “Didn’t you just… last month?’

Seeing no response from him, Lyss felt a bit dejected. He stood up, swaying, trying to walk past Lu Xingye towards the bed, “My estrus has never been stable, but since we don’t have… I won’t trouble you this time…’

Before Lyss could finish his sentence, he suddenly froze, feeling a strong force. His eyes widened unbelievably.

Lu Xingye suddenly surged, wordlessly embracing Lyss’s waist, forcefully pressing him face down onto the bed.

The food bag containing nutrient fluid fell to the ground, liquid seeping out through the opening, leaving a wet mark. Lyss was stunned, and upon regaining his senses, his first reaction was to protect his lower abdomen. Lu Xingye’s heart was cold, but his body and mind were burning.

A sense of injustice from being abandoned and the almost violent desire mixed with an unknown feeling from almost seeing his love die ignited a flame tinged with possessiveness and brutality.

Lu Xingye’s eyes almost turned into the color of the night, silently gazing down at the person under him.

The belt from the military uniform gradually tightened, and professionally, Lu Xingye secured one of Lyss’s hands. Then, he lowered his head and found Lyss’s other hand placed on his abdomen.

He narrowed his eyes, raising his hand to grip the other’s wrist without resistance.

Lyss hesitated in breathing, and when he regained consciousness, both of his hands were already pulled behind his back. He bit his lip and tried to struggle, but the person behind him suddenly lifted him from the bed with the bound belt.

Caught off guard, Lyss ended up in Lu Xingye’s arms, the hard accessories on the military uniform causing him discomfort.

The next moment, the alpha’s hand, warm with a hint of roughness, circled around him. Two fingers separated, indicating a distance on his lower abdomen.

Lyss’s pupils contracted, realizing what the other meant. His body involuntarily trembled, yet he tried to sound composed, “You can’t…’

“I can.’ Lu Xingye interrupted gently, “Besides, there won’t be any marking. You should’ve thought of this when you drove me away.’

Author’s Note:

Daughter: You two are prideful, you two are remarkable!

Don’t ask, the chief’s body is fine.

Many years later, the little dog found out that his wife was already pregnant at this time (can’t sleep, slaps oneself): I should’ve died then!

A lot of info in this chapter. The history all current Federations are based on, is a big fat lie. I feel so sorry for the few Canines that survived. How unfair.
If LX isn’t Lu Jin’s first son (referred to as Aye ~ or is that actually AI), who and where is he now? Or is it LX and he’s some kind of hybrid?

LX, if only you knew right now; you’ll be mortified, just as the Author says 🫣
Thank you both for the chapter.
