After Lyss finished speaking, his expression remained indifferent, as if completely unaware of having said something shocking. Most people present were stunned, some slightly regained their senses and looked at Lu Xingye, who also appeared blank, evidently not expecting Lyss to say that.
Lyss’s brief silence earlier made Lilia slightly suspicious, but upon hearing Lyss’s words and observing everyone’s reactions after the shock, she almost subconsciously removed Lyss from the list of possibilities.
“Chief, you sure have a sense of humor, but some jokes are better left unsaid,” Shaya said with a strained smile. “Miss Lin Lang is five years old, right? Our Sixth Prince just turned twenty this year. Your joke…”
The unclear situation made everyone’s gaze at Lyss even more astonished, as if realizing today for the first time that they were dealing with such a hypocrite.
Lyss paid no attention to the others’ looks. Lu Xingye quickly intervened, “Mr. Silverfang might have just followed Mr. Mes’s words.”
Mes was the omega minister who had just made a joke about his own child. The explanation seemed plausible, but coming from Lu Xingye, who was part of the “joke,” it took a strange turn.
The expressions of the imperial ministers became quite hard to interpret. They wouldn’t believe Lin Lang was truly Lu Xingye’s daughter, but from their interaction, everyone could sense something amiss between Lyss and Lu Xingye.
Considering their ages and recent behavior, it was hard not to suspect Lu Xingye of taking the role of a father figure to Triss Chief’s five-year-old daughter. No one in the entire interstellar community knew Lyss’s age. Some guessed he was almost a hundred years old, while when Lu Xingye returned to the Empire, someone specifically measured his bone age, confirming it to be twenty.
A twenty-year-old alpha taking on the enigmatic child of the beautiful and aloof omega as a father figure. No one accused the Federation of overstepping or the Federation Chief being a cradle robber. They simply acknowledged the ability to have the Empire’s prince act as a kept man for him; indeed, Triss Chief was truly remarkable.
And indeed, when the faces of the Empire’s people could no longer hide their discomfort, the expressions of other powers present were filled with admiration for Lyss.
Shaya couldn’t bear watching further and had to follow Lu Xingye’s lead, “I didn’t expect the Chief to have such a sense of humor… Well, let’s skip idle talk; everyone’s time is valuable. Let’s proceed to the next person.”
The verifications of the next few individuals went smoothly, but an unexpected incident occurred with a representative of Sheng Dan. That person was President Feng Man’s secretary, often overlooked. Initially, no one paid attention to him.
After Feng Man spoke, the room fell silent, and everyone looked at him suspiciously.
“Mr. Eilin,” Shaya glanced at the list in her hand, “please cooperate with our inspection.”
Feng Man, distracted by recent events, was the only one apart from Lyss and Lu Xingye who knew about the two. Associating Lu Xingye’s age five years ago, he even began to suspect that Lin Lang might be their daughter, hence subtly doubting Lyss’s identity – could what he said be true?
Before he could continue his deductions, his secretary suddenly fell silent.
Feng Man’s heart skipped a beat as he abruptly turned to the person behind him. Someone who was suspecting others suddenly realized that the person next to them was the most likely problem. It was hard to describe Feng Man’s feelings at that moment.
His secretary continued to remain silent, and now everyone in the room realized something was amiss.
Lyss barely audible, furrowed his brow, and the next moment, abruptly said, “He’s going to self-destruct!”
As soon as Lyss spoke, almost everyone’s first reaction was to run out. No one went to stop him except Lu Xingye.
Eilin’s right arm unnaturally swelled, emitting a strange light from beneath the torn fabric. In this critical moment, with everyone on edge, Lu Xingye kicked the floating chair in front of him, rushed to Eilin, and forcefully pulled that seemingly non-human arm, about to explode, off him.
The arm, shining strangely in his hand, suddenly heated up. Without a second thought, Lu Xingye threw it to an empty corner of the meeting room, but it was too late.
The moment the arm detached, it exploded, causing a massive muffled blast in the entire room.
Amidst the glaring light, Lu Xingye’s figure was nowhere to be seen. This familiar scene merged with memories from five years ago, flooding Lyss’s mind with fears from the past.
The aftershocks of the explosion made Shaya vomit blood against the wall. Despite the pain, she tried pressing the emergency button. All the room’s systems malfunctioned, and even the meeting room’s doors wouldn’t open. With a grim face, she attempted to establish contact outside, but all messages sent out seemed to vanish into thin air, receiving no response.
Her expression darkened. Leaning against the wall, she looked at the people crowded at the door, unable to leave. She spoke despite the pain, “We’ve been locked in—”
Before she finished her sentence, a loud noise erupted from the side. Everyone turned around abruptly, witnessing Lyss shedding his coat, stepping onto the long table in front. While everyone else was avoiding the explosion site, he crossed the shortest distance, stepping right into the center of the explosion.
As the smoke cleared, a figure covered in blood, unmoved, held Eilin’s neck. His arm was torn apart, exposing bones. There were no words to describe Lyss’s feelings at that moment. The pain from five years ago and the smell of blood overwhelmed his senses.
It was a mix of anger and fear. When he saw Eilin shakily raising his other arm, ready to continue self-destructing, that emotion peaked.
In the shocked gazes of everyone present, Lyss kicked Eilin’s neck without mercy. The man’s entire head flew off, hitting the wall with a loud “thud.”
A gush of blood sprayed like a waterfall, indistinguishable from that of a real human. Some with weaker mental fortitude almost vomited at this gruesome scene, almost no different from killing a living person.
Lyss’s expression remained as cold as ice. Covered in Eilin’s blood, seemingly unaware, he grabbed the still-heating and flickering arm, abruptly tearing it apart. A ripping sound resonated, and the tumbling figure fell to the ground. The arm, which had been expanding continuously, suddenly slowed down in Lyss’s hand, as if tamed.
Breathless, Lu Xingye looked at Lyss. Blood oozed from his forehead, but he couldn’t afford to notice. He almost whispered, “Don’t…”
“Shut up.” Lyss stared coldly, an icy rage emanating from his core. “I don’t want to hear you right now.”
Oh no, Lu Xingye silently closed his mouth. I think I’ve made him angry again.
But before he could apologize, dizziness from blood loss overwhelmed his thoughts. Subconsciously leaning against the nearby wall, he tried not to let Lyss notice his condition.
A mix of post-fear and indescribable anger made Lyss lose his calm like never before. He coldly looked at the blood-soaked arm in his hand that was no longer swelling and suddenly exerted force. The swollen muscles and bones twisted as he crushed them mercilessly, almost tearing the arm into two pieces, yet there were no signs of an impending explosion.
Finally, Lyss casually threw the object aside and turned to Linda with a cold expression, “Knowing that there’s an AI infiltration, and still enforcing such a rigorous verification that ultimately leads to an AI self-destructing. I will need an explanation from your country.”
Shaya’s scalp tingled. She was about to say something when a loud noise suddenly came from a distance. Lyss turned abruptly, just in time to see Lu Xingye falling to the ground. The room instantly fell into chaos. Lyss felt his brain explode into blankness. Everything around him lost color as if fading into a distorted unreality.
Fire spread quickly among the upper echelons of various nations. Although the specifics hadn’t reached the general public, the inexplicable tense atmosphere raised alarms for some. None of this concerned Lyss. He sat quietly next to the medical pod, gazing coldly at the pod in front of him.
Lin Lang cautiously tugged at Lyss’s sleeve, “Mommy… when will Daddy wake up?”
Lyss remained silent, staring at the medical pod in front of him. The atmosphere around him was unusually dreadful.
Lillia, sitting nearby like sitting on pins and needles, couldn’t bear this atmosphere. She stood up involuntarily and said, “There’s something at headquarters. I’ll go…”
Before she could finish her sentence, the medical pod suddenly emitted a “beep” sound. “Treatment complete.”
Lyss’s originally calm expression underwent subtle changes. Lillia felt a sudden chill down her spine, disregarding etiquette, she abruptly stood up, appearing somewhat at a loss.
Lin Lang, unaware of the affairs between adults, happily pounced to the side of the medical pod, “Dad—oh, wait.” The little girl paused, suddenly a bit angry, “You clearly said you wouldn’t get hurt again… I’m going to call you Uncle!”
Lu Xingye rubbed his dizzy forehead, expressing apologies as he rubbed his daughter’s head, “Sorry, baby, Dad broke his promise… But look, Dad is fine here, right? It’s okay, forgive Dad for this one last time, okay?”
Lin Lang, only five years old after all, blinked at his words, about to forgive him. Suddenly, Lyss spoke, “Lillia, take Lin Lang out.”
Lillia shivered, forcing herself to say, “Yes.”
“Mama?” Lin Lang blinked, puzzled.
Lyss, with a slightly softer tone, said, “Baby, go out with Aunt Lillia first, okay? Dad and I have something to discuss.”
Although Lin Lang still didn’t understand what the two adults were going to talk about, she obediently followed Lillia out.
As the door closed, Lu Xingye suddenly felt a chill on his back. Subconsciously, he wanted to apologize, “Brother—”
Unexpectedly, Lyss calmly interrupted him, “Does it hurt?”
Lu Xingye, who was about to speak, froze his words at the corner of his mouth. After three seconds of stiffness, he forced himself to say, “Not much… Really, brother, don’t worry. I’ve gotten used to it. I—”
Lu Xingye did tell the truth. The pain from earlier and his experiences in the past five years were nothing worth mentioning. The rest of his words suddenly couldn’t be said.
Warm tears, heavy as a thousand catties, fell on his hand. His chest felt as if it was being clenched, and even his breath stagnated at that moment.
“It hurts.” Lyss calmly shed tears, as if all emotions were being drawn away. In a feather-light tone, he spoke, “Lu Xingye, it hurts.”
Author’s note:
Puppy: Wife, don’t cry QAQ, damn, I really deserve to die!!

It’s always the case, where the victim’s injuries are felt more by the close relatives!! Poor Lyss’s heart must’ve squeezed from fear of losing LX😭😭😭
LX’s first and overriding thoughts, would have been to protect Lyss, I’m sure, even though he’s actually more powerful. LX would not have been capable of acting differently.
However I totally get Lyss’s reaction. He’s just got him back after years of heartache, to almost lose him again.
I can only imagine 😔
Thank goodness he’s alive; I hope they could save his arm.
Thank you both for the chapter.
Yeah it hurts.
Aaaaaaaa another angst but i love it so much😭
