The doctor had spoken sincerely and earnestly. Lyss didn’t think much of it and walked over to the doctor’s desk, taking a seat without much ado. He lifted his gaze casually and replied, “He’s not my mate, and I don’t engage in sexual activities.”
Lu Xingye, who had been inspecting the various medical instruments in the room upon entering, was startled by the doctor’s words. His ears perked up, and he turned his head in shock. Before he could explain, Lyss had calmly finished his explanation.
Lu Xingye’s original intention was to prevent the doctor from misunderstanding their relationship. Upon Lyss’ calm explanation, he felt a tinge of displeasure but couldn’t quite figure out why. Yet, he didn’t show it and merely stood silently by Lyss’ side.
“Is that so? That’s good,” said the doctor, but there was a subtle curiosity in his gaze as he looked at Lu Xingye. “May I ask who this is?”
“Lu Xingye. He can smell my pheromones,” Lyss explained. “I brought him here for a check-up.”
“He can smell your pheromones? Without any external stimulation?” The doctor was incredulous.
“Yes,” replied Lyss, glancing at Lu Xingye. Seeing him standing there without sitting down, he asked, “Why are you standing?”
Lu Xingye casually replied, “Without the Chief’s order, how could I dare to sit?”
Although he said this, there was no hint of reverence in his tone towards Lyss.
The doctor’s surprise increased further when Lyss calmly stated, “You and I don’t have a superior-subordinate relationship. I have a request for you, and you don’t need to wait for my orders.”
Lu Xingye raised an eyebrow. “So, according to Mr. Silverfang, I can sit wherever I want from now on?”
Lyss nodded. “That’s right.”
Upon hearing this, Lu Xingye immediately summoned a floating chair and sat directly next to Lyss.
When Lyss visited before, sometimes there was no one with him, and other times he was accompanied by a few bodyguards, but none of them had been as uninhibited as Lu Xingye.
The doctor suppressed his surprise and said, “Chief, has your pheromone disorder improved recently? Can you control it?”
“We don’t need to discuss this,” Lyss shook his head. “He knows about my situation.”
The doctor’s astonishment couldn’t be contained any longer. He turned to Lu Xingye in shock, as if he were staring at a fox that had suddenly appeared, “You know about the Chief’s…?”
“Yeah,” Lu Xingye casually leaned on his chin. “His pheromone disorder is a pretense. I was even considering that it might be hidden from ordinary people but not necessarily from a doctor. Now it seems like you two are in cahoots.”
This statement was quite offensive, and the doctor took a sharp breath. Lyss remained composed and said, “You can think of it that way.”
Lu Xingye sincerely acknowledged, “The Chief has incredible insight and abilities.”
Lyss didn’t respond to his words and turned to the doctor, saying, “Let’s start directly with the progesterone level test.”
The doctor explained that while pheromone levels could roughly predict estrus periods, sometimes inaccuracies occurred due to omega’s emotions, external factors, and physiological conditions. On the other hand, progesterone not only accurately predicted estrus periods but also indicated the intensity of the next one.
After testing Lyss’ progesterone levels, the doctor proceeded to conduct a full-body examination on Lu Xingye, which provided quicker results than the progesterone test. Upon analyzing Lu Xingye’s report and comparing it with Lyss’ previous tests, the doctor hesitated before looking at both of them with an expression of wanting to say something.
“Is there a problem with his report?” Lyss inquired.
“Doctor, don’t look at me like that,” Lu Xingye felt chills down his spine. “I’m not about to get a terminal illness, am I?”
“No terminal illness, but…” the doctor hesitated before continuing, “the compatibility between Mr. Lu and the Chief is… 99%.”
As soon as these words were uttered, Lyss widened his eyes slightly, and Lu Xingye’s reaction became more intense. “99%? Did you make a mistake in the test? Wait, isn’t compatibility testing illegal?”
Compatibility testing had no bearing on whether two individuals would develop feelings for each other; it was simply a cold indicator of reproductive possibilities. Different species often had low compatibility, some even registering as 0%. In the past, there were enforced matches by a “system” based on compatibility for the sake of racial continuation. Although this practice had ceased with the disappearance of most “systems,” the consensus remained that low compatibility between different species led to artificial “reproductive isolation.”
Lu Xingye focused on the legality of the compatibility test, while Lyss felt something amiss. In theory, there should be reproductive isolation between the Black Wolf Clan and the White Wolf Clan, but Lu Xingye, being a mix of dog and black wolf, couldn’t have such a high compatibility with Lyss, unless… dogs and wolves themselves were one race.
“In general, compatibility testing is illegal, except for medical purposes,” the doctor explained. “It’s similar to gender screening. Usually, checking a baby’s gender is illegal, but when one parent carries a sex-linked genetic disease, gender screening is justifiable. Similarly, because the Chief requires an alpha by his side due to his unique condition, the higher the compatibility between this alpha and the Chief, the more soothing the effect. We’ve been conducting tests all along, but to see one this high… it’s the first time.”
Upon hearing this, Lu Xingye looked somewhat uneasy and asked, “So, according to your explanation… have you previously brought other alphas to check compatibility?”
Lyss didn’t detect Lu Xingye’s discomfort in his tone and candidly nodded, “Yes.”
Lu Xingye almost choked on his breath upon hearing this. “And what’s the compatibility with them?”
“I don’t remember,” Lyss casually replied. “The Council sent them up, went through the process, and it ended. I didn’t look at most of the reports.”
Lu Xingye’s emotions instantly fluctuated, but Lyss didn’t notice. the doctor, on the sidelines, observed everything. Seeing this, the doctor couldn’t help feeling sympathy. Yet another alpha falling for the Chief’s charm.
“Oh,” Lu Xingye didn’t know what the doctor was thinking, so he just blurted out, “So, bringing those alphas here was to make the Council think they could control you?”
It was an unspoken agreement between Lyss and the doctor, but Lu Xingye unexpectedly said it outright.
“Yes, that’s correct,” much to the doctor’s surprise, Lyss didn’t get angry and nodded. “Compared to you, those in the Council are indeed fools.”
As they spoke, the hormone analyzer stopped running, made a “beep,” and produced a neatly bound report. The doctor suppressed his surprise, picked up the report, and began studying it. After a brief glance, his expression turned serious.
Lyss didn’t show much reaction, but Lu Xingye seemed more nervous than the person concerned. “What’s wrong?”
“Chief,” the doctor looked at Lyss seriously after setting down the report. “Your progesterone levels indicate you might enter the pre-estrus period soon. It would be best to wrap up your work within this week…”
“I have a meeting with Sheng Dan next week,” Lyss calmly interrupted. “Is there any solution?”
The doctor showed a hesitant expression again and couldn’t help glancing at Lu Xingye, who was taken aback.
“There is a solution, but…” the doctor took a deep breath. “External alpha pheromones won’t soothe you anymore. Direct muscular injections have an average effect and might trigger an immediate onset of estrus…”
Lyss, analyzing his situation calmly, asked, “What’s your suggestion?”
“I suggest finding an alpha with higher compatibility for a temporary marking,” the doctor said, glancing again at Lu Xingye. “But this method can only be used three times. After the first marking, no alcohol is allowed. Due to your unique constitution, the effect of a normal alpha’s marking lasts for a short time, and alcohol might lead to excessive pheromone secretion, causing the marking to fail and inducing an early estrus.”
Lyss looked at Lu Xingye beside him. Lu Xingye’s ears twitched unnaturally. He tried to act composed, but his blank mind and flushed cheeks betrayed his unease. He couldn’t even make eye contact with Lyss.
“Alright, I understand,” Lyss withdrew his gaze and stood up. “I’ll consider it.”
With that, he turned and left the room. Lu Xingye quickly followed. The atmosphere between them on the way home was extremely subtle. This subtlety mainly stemmed from Lu Xingye, as Lyss was entirely oblivious to what the awkwardness meant. Throughout the journey, Lyss didn’t initiate any conversation, and Lu Xingye’s feelings gradually shifted from discomfort to displeasure.
When he said he’d consider it, could he be considering other alphas? Lu Xingye couldn’t help but think. Lyss was completely unaware of what Lu Xingye was thinking. As soon as they returned home and before changing clothes, he turned to Lu Xingye earnestly, “You can ask me a question, and I’ll answer truthfully. As a reward, please give me a temporary marking.”
Lyss’ attitude was serious and straightforward. He didn’t seem to find anything wrong with issuing what could be considered an “invitation” to an alpha.
Lu Xingye finally got what he had been waiting for from Lyss, but instead of feeling an accelerated heartbeat, he abruptly calmed down upon hearing Lyss’s condition.
“What if I’m not satisfied with your answer?” Lu Xingye immediately asked.
“You can continue asking until you’re satisfied with my answer,” Lyss replied.
Lu Xingye raised an eyebrow. “Quite confident, Chief. But what if I remain unsatisfied? Aren’t you afraid I might exploit that?”
“You’re not that kind of person,” Lyss lightly shook his head.
The more inadvertent the praise, the more memorable it was. Lu Xingye’s breath hitched upon hearing this, and it took him a while before he regained his composure. “Do you know Lu Jin?”
For some reason, when this name was mentioned, Lyss felt a ripple from deep within. He furrowed his brows slightly and searched his mind for three seconds before shaking his head, “Sorry, I don’t know.”
Although Lu Xingye had mentally prepared himself, he couldn’t help feeling a sense of disappointment upon hearing this. He quickly regained his composure, “Then please tell me, why does the Empire insist on hunting down my mother and me? Or rather, why is all of humanity denying or even erasing the existence of the dog race? If I’m not mistaken, this should be a question.”
“You’re smart to guess correctly.” Lyss raised his eyes to look at the young and handsome alpha in front of him, “I still say the same thing as before, with your current status and power, this answer may bring you unexpected consequences, are you sure you want to know?”
Lu Xingye nodded extremely calmly, “I’m sure.”
Seeing this, Lyss didn’t try to persuade him any further but turned towards the sofa, “There are many explanations for the absence of Canines among the Therians, do you know what the official answer is?”
“Probably.” Lu Xingye followed and sat down on the sofa, “The explosion that happened on Earth a thousand years ago was similar to the Big Bang, it caused three-dimensional space to collapse to zero dimensions, which in turn affected the course of time and space, and then the Therians appeared. As for those theories in between, they’re too complicated for me to figure out anyway.”
“That’s correct by the history available. The official explanation that was eventually given was that the explosion caused the time and space before the creation of human civilization to overlap with the time and space of that time, affecting a portion of human DNA in a causality-like fashion, which in turn gave rise to the “Therians’.” Lyss followed his words, “To make an apt analogy, that is, the front and back of a white sheet of paper were coated with different paints, and that explosion was like scissors, it subtracted half of the picture, and took the back of one half, and imprinted it on the front of the other half, and the paints from both sides mixed to form some colors that never existed before. This is the most popular “singularity collapse theory” at the moment.”
When Lyss said the first half of the sentence, Lu Xingye listened to it in a cloudy manner, his physics could be said to be a mess, but Lyss’ later analogy made him understand.
Lu Xingye couldn’t help but exclaim, “Chief Lord really knows astronomy and geography. Nevermind one council, even if there were ten more, I’m afraid they wouldn’t be enough for you to play with.”
Lyss didn’t take his joke, “I always thought that this theory was correct before, until I took office as the Chief and saw some hidden research results in Triss’s sealed materials, then I realized that this theory has a huge loophole.”
Lu Xingye’s ears twitched and he immediately sat up straight, “What loophole?”
“If the explosion affected the history before the creation of humans and the present, then the Therians produced should only include species before the creation of humans, or at the very least, should only include species before the creation of human civilization.”
Lu Xingye stared blankly and broke out in a cold sweat when he came back to his senses, unable to resist asking, “What do you mean?”
“I saw the existence of the canine race in the sealed data, and the conditions under which canines were created during the Earth period.” Lyss calmly uttered a statement that was enough to shock the world, “Canines are actually the result of humans domesticating wolves. In other words, the existence of a species that came after the formation of human civilization among the Therians is contrary to the current theory.”
Lu Xingye’s eyes widened incredulously, “But every federation and country has claimed that there is no existence of the Canine race…”
“Yes, and that means.” Lyss’ eyes were slightly cold, “They are conspiring in an attempt to cover up the truth by erasing the existence of the Canines.”
Lu Xingye was enlightened but felt something was wrong, “That means the reason why the Sekaninaite’s are after my mother and me is because of this…?”
“Yes and no.” Lyss pondered for a moment, “The Black Wolf Clan places too much value on their Therian status, believing themselves to be a more noble species than those who have not “evolved’. But the existence of the Canines specifically means that wolves can be tamed by the “original species’ as they call it.”
Lu Xingye understood immediately, “To them, my existence taints their bloodline.”
“It can be understood that way.” Lyss nodded.
Eighteen years of hatred was actually going to kill an innocent race just because of this inconsequential racial honor, just because of a nebulous bloodline. Or was it that in the eyes of those high and mighty, weak races were meant to be at their disposal for sacrifice?
“The Black Wolf clan’s philosophy has always been absurd, but that doesn’t mean that everything they do is child’s play.” Lyss read Lu Xingye’s mind at a glance, “For them, this is a battle of beliefs and even more. It’s a battle of the Great Dao, which is immortal.”
Lu Xingye understood what Lyss meant, but was still somewhat unable to accept it, and only after a long time did he open his mouth and say, “Since the Singularity Theory is false, then how did the Therians actually come about?”
Lu Xingye realized that he had overstepped his boundaries after asking the question, the previous agreement was clearly one question, but what he was asking was far more than one question.
Just as Lu Xingye was about to apologize, he found Lyss in a rare moment of silence.
“… I don’t know.” Lyss was silent for a long time before he replied, “That’s the answer I’ve been chasing, and that’s what I want from you.”
Lu Xingye thoughtlessly said, “If a person of your stature doesn’t know, how could I?”
“You may not know now.” Lyss looked at him seriously, “But the “canines’ are the only race outside of “them’ – you are the key to breaking the mold. “
Lu Xingye was shocked by Lyss’ words, and laughed absurdly, “What you said is too far, canine is a dog, although there is not much scientific research on dogs nowadays, but in Serica’s common language, dog has always been a curse word.”
When Lyss saw that he didn’t believe him, he didn’t say anything else, but just twisted his head and started to undo his buttons.
Lu Xingye, who was still immersed in the serious atmosphere from before, froze at the sight, and then immediately became disoriented, “Wait, what are you doing-“
“I’ve already given you the answer you asked for.” Lyss twisted his head to look at him, his tone calm and serious, “Now it’s time for you to fulfill your promise.”
After saying that, he lowered his head and took off his jacket, leaving only the white shirt he was wearing inside. The snow-white back of his neck that was originally wrapped under the collar was now completely exposed to the air; Lyss’ hair was a bit long, and he casually flicked back the scattered hair, revealing a section of the back of his bare and white neck- “Bite hard please, I don’t want three chances to run out that quickly.”
Author’s Message:
Challenging the record for the fastest marker, next chapter is really going to be a temporary marker heh heh heh

What ridiculous ideology the wolves have. Genocide.
Thank you both for the chapter.
Sighhhh…. I can never quite understand all these theological chit chat 🤔
I enjoy the interaction and emotional levels😉
…I’m not actually surprised. There are humans today who believe themselves to be Superior. It’s not true, humans are humans, but if they had the chance they’d wipe out other human bloodlines to ‘prove’ their superiority and hide the truth.
