Chapter 9: Recording

If someone who didn’t know Lu Xingye heard what he said, they would surely perceive him as a pitiful person being unjustly bullied by someone in a position of power. Anyone who knows a bit about him wouldn’t think that way. For instance, Lillia, upon witnessing the situation, was utterly shocked.
You see, Lu Xingye was a fully-grown alpha, standing at 1.85 meters tall. Apart from his age, there was nothing about him that could be associated with someone pitiful. Even his appearance had nothing to do with the term.
But this man could openly play innocent. Lyss also didn’t expect Lu Xingye to behave in such a manner. After a momentary pause upon hearing Lu Xingye’s words, Lyss turned to the two individuals and said, “Why have you been disrespectful to my secretary?”
“Your secretary?” Cheno, leaning against the wall, stood up, his voice cold. “As the Chief, using Federation funds for your own expenses—”
“Excuse me, Mr. Lu’s salary is paid by the Chief himself,” Lillia interjected, unable to hold back, pushing her glasses up. “It doesn’t come from the Federation’s accounts.”
At these words, Cheno’s expression twisted momentarily, and Nicky immediately changed the subject, “Chief, there might be a misunderstanding. It was your “secretary’ here who was disrespectful to the two of us. We were merely chatting while standing here, and this little alpha suddenly appeared and started arguing with us. And then, without warning, he even resorted to using physical action against us. Chief, by just believing his side of the story, it seems you’re biased, isn’t it?”
With that said, both of them displayed a contemptuous yet smug expression. their smugness quickly faded away.
“To determine if it’s one-sided, let’s take a look at the recording,” unexpectedly, Lu Xingye pulled out a recording device. “I believe the Chief will provide a fair judgment.”
Due to historical legacy issues caused by AI and androids 800 years ago, unconsented recording and audio aren’t illegal in some areas. But most Federation officials have anti-recording interference devices. When detecting quantum recording devices within a certain range, they automatically trigger alarms and generate interference. The recording device Lu Xingye produced was extremely small, noticeably different from those available on the market, clearly a product of the Starfall Sea.
Those two individuals never expected such cunning from a seemingly barely-adult-aged young alpha. Their faces almost instantly changed, “How do you have—”
Lyss interrupted, “Let’s play it then.”
Saying that, he took the recording device from Lu Xingye’s hand, ready to press the play button. Of course, those two knew what they had said earlier. They never imagined their words had been recorded. For a moment, they resorted to desperate measures out of panic.
Cheno clenched his teeth and, in a heated moment, tried to snatch the recording device from Lyss’s hand. Lu Xingye moved to intervene, but the next second, he saw Lyss coldly staring at Cheno. His gaze sent chills down Cheno’s spine, causing him to immediately regain his composure and refrain from taking further actions.
The recording began playing, and upon seeing the contents, the people present had a drastic change in their expressions:
Nicky was smoking while standing in a corner with Cheno, asking, “Have you heard?”
Cheno, clueless, asked, “Heard what?”
Nicky smirked, “Lyss brought back an alpha the other day, seems to be a fresh new adult with a good-looking face… Hmm, our Chief actually likes them young, no wonder you got rejected back then.”
At these words, Cheno’s face turned cold, “…Of course, I heard. But those media folks dare not even make a peep, a bunch of useless people.”
Nicky waved his hand, “They wouldn’t dare report on this. If they did, what would people in other federations and empires say?”
Cheno’s expression was full of malice, “I’ve always said an omega shouldn’t be the Chief, especially an unmarked one. Seeing an alpha and wanting to lay down… those idiots in parliament. I’ve said it before, better for him to be marked by an alpha early on, lest outsiders take advantage… hmph.”
Nicky’s smile immediately turned teasing, “Marked by an alpha? Are you suggesting they let you mark him? Unfortunately, those idiots in the parliament are all about balance. They wouldn’t let the military and the Chief get involved. So, they can only pick from those worthless ones. I’ve heard our Chief’s guards around him serve this function quite well?”
Cheno’s tone was acrid and malicious, “Those idiots have probably tasted his flavor already. They’ve really had it easy. Lyss’s figure, especially the waist and hips, they are really… who—?!”
Lu Xingye, with a cold face, walked over from around the corner. Because the media hadn’t reported anything about Lu Xingye, and he hadn’t revealed his ears or tail, they didn’t recognize him and just furrowed their brows in reprimand, “Stop, who are you?”
Lu Xingye seemed to ignore them and continued walking forward.
“Kid, didn’t you hear me talking to you?” Cheno immediately moved forward, seemingly about to grab Lu Xingye’s arm.
Seeing the frown and the dodge, Cheno became impatient, “An incomplete evolution—”
He didn’t hold back and struck a punch towards Lu Xingye.
The recording abruptly ended there, but what happened afterward was known to everyone present. There was even a trace of blood on the nearby wall, indicating the extent of the one-sided aggression that just took place.
Nicky and Cheno, one a Major and the other a Lieutenant Colonel, failed to even land a punch on Lu Xingye, an 18-year-old alpha, and were down on the ground within a few moves. After watching the video, the two individuals looked pale, appearing both panicked and somewhat blank-minded. But Lyss keenly noticed that although their relaxation after watching the recording was mostly genuine panic, a small part seemed more like an act.
Lyss saw through it all, realizing that perhaps before this conversation, these two had said things that shouldn’t be known by others. Lu Xingye, seeing Lyss appearing as calm as if nothing had happened, was inexplicably irritated, feeling like his anger had been wasted. Yet, he wasn’t even sure why he was angry at himself.
The silence and composure of Lyss made the two individuals, who had secretly relaxed a bit, become slightly flustered again.
“I’ll inform your superiors about this,” Lyss spoke up. “Tomorrow morning at ten, bring a personal handwritten letter from the Marshal to my office.”
Hearing this decision, the two thought Lyss was afraid of escalation and intended to gently put the matter down. So, they finally felt relieved and agreed, “Yes.”
They thought they’d come in the morning, apologize, and the matter would be settled. But what they didn’t anticipate was that they wouldn’t even make it till the next day.
In the afternoon, Lyss went to a meeting with the newly appointed secretariat. Due to the lengthy meeting agenda, Lyss didn’t have much time to interact with Lu Xingye and didn’t notice the shift in his mood.
It wasn’t until they returned home in the evening that Lyss noticed. Just after showering, Lyss intercepted Lu Xingye, who had also just come downstairs after a shower. Without beating around the bush, Lyss asked, “Do you have another part of the recording?”
Lu Xingye was puzzled during his shower by his sudden dissatisfaction and felt like a fool, wanting to stand up for someone who didn’t care in the end. Lu Xingye was perplexed and blurted out, “How did you know?”
“I guessed it from their reactions,” Lyss explained. “Cheno appears reckless on the surface but is actually scheming. His behavior was probably to provoke me deliberately, to hide his real intentions. Nicky’s reason for pretending to sell out Marshal Dell is similar to his, so I assume there was another conversation between them.”
“The Chief seems to have an uncanny knack for calculations,” Lu Xingye was surprised that Lyss understood Cheno’s nature so well, feeling a bit sour, “I do have another part of the recording.”
Without much resistance, Lyss asked, “Can you let me see it?”
Lu Xingye wasn’t as compliant as before. He looked down at the omega, slightly shorter than himself, and asked, “Why should I let you see it?”
Lyss was taken aback and realized, “Are you angry?”
“Not at all,” Lu Xingye quickly denied, making up, “This is a recording device I brought from Starfall Sea, worth five million star coins. It becomes invalid after one use. That one just now was a freebie, and for this second one, Chief, what do you intend to exchange it with?”
Starfall Sea’s items were indeed expensive, but Lu Xingye had no idea how much it was worth. He won it from an opponent and had about a hundred or two of these, not valuable to him.
But Lyss was unaware and earnestly nodded after pondering for a few seconds, “Indeed, it’s precious. How about this? You can make a request to me, whether monetary or otherwise, as long as it’s within my capabilities, I’ll grant it. Do you think that’s a fair exchange?”
Lu Xingye’s eyes darkened at Lyss’ words. He looked at the omega in front of him, wearing just a robe after a shower, and couldn’t help but repeat, “Any request?”
Lyss innocently looked back and nodded, “Yes, any request.”
Lu Xingye’s gaze fell on Lyss’ cheek, then traced downward, finally resting on the collarbone hidden under the fabric.
“Well then,” Lu Xingye said, “Chief, please take off your clothes.”
