Chapter 8: you passed the exam, junior commander

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Noka suddenly tugged at Ming Huan, “Wait, why are you leaving?”

“If we separate, the survival rate will be higher.” Ming Huan actually had other plans in mind, but he didn’t expect Noka to look silly, suddenly acting like this iin this high-pressure environment was actually pretty shrewd.

“I have another question!”

Ming Huan looked at the growing wind and sand, and his tone once again became a little impatient because of his anxiety, “What’s wrong? Hurry up. There is a time limit on the exam.”

“If you and I were separated, even if you were lucky enough to try out the secret key to this defensive detection machine, who would you protect with its external defense shield?”

“What?”

“You said that its defense mechanism would only allow it to protect one person for thirty seconds. You want us to separate.” Noka sounded a little flustered, “Actually, you will only protect yourself, isn’t that it?”

Ming Huan’s explanation was unclear in two or three sentences.

“Noka, you trust me.” Ming Huan frowned and said word for word, “This is just an exam, not a real life or death situation. We will see each other again after the exam. I won’t abandon you, we’re teammates.”

Noka’s light blue eyes stared at Ming Huan. One had to admit that Ming Huan’s promise was so sincere that one could not help but believe it. He let go of his hand, “Okay, I believe you.”

Ming Huan let go of his hand and walked into the yellow sand alone.

After about ten seconds, the fighter jet that was not far away from him burst suddenly with volatility and red light flashed three times before it immediately swept down laser cannons overhead. One of them swept from far away to nearer towards the cave where Noka was.

However, a shield hit Noka in a flash, blocking that heavy laser cannon.

It was the only shield that protected itself.

Noka’s eyes widened in dismay as he looked at the blistering wind wrapped in yellow sand on the ground in front of him, and the figure of the teenager was no longer visible.

The location of the shield was surveyed, and the laser cannon strafed, quickly knocking out several cracks in the defense shield.

Noka silently counted to thirty in his heart.

Three seconds before the shield was about to be broken, the rebooted fighter blocked the overlapping laser cannons and opened a hatch underneath.

Noka quickly entered the fighter.

He found Ming Huan only wearing pants with no top.

Ming Huan also seemed to notice the other party’s strange gaze. He used his free hand to shake off the yellow sand on his shirt and draped it over his body once more, “Your luck is so bad that the first laser swept at you.”

A protective shield only lasted thirty seconds. It was fortunate that he had moved fast, or Noka really would have died there.

Ming Huan pulled the lever without looking back, and Noka stood behind him in silence.

“But it’s okay.” The teenager’s tone had hidden arrogance, “I was lucky to get the key right on the first try.”

“Why did you give me the shield?”

“Because you’re about to be swept away by a laser cannon?” Ming Huan said, “Come on over and assist the flight. By my count, there are three fighters up there, not a lot. Our mission this time must be to fly this one reconnaissance plane and successfully escape from these three hunter-type warplanes.”

“Why do you know so much about the warplanes of the Empire from more than three thousand years ago?” Noka sat beside Ming Huan and concentrated on assisting in adjusting the flight buttons, while Ming Huan concentrated on pulling the joystick. The airframe deftly dodged several cannon blasts.

‘Why?’

‘If you’ve ever been forced to take a mecha battleship course day and night, you’ll know it well.’

In fact, Ming Huan undressed to let out his pair of wings away from Noka’s sight since his half-human half-dragon body was stronger and could withstand the yellow sand while keeping his vision clear. He flapped his wings in the yellow sand stirred up by the laser cannons, and soon got into the fighter and started it up.

He then changed back to his original body in around ten seconds or so.

Fortunately, although it was his consciousness in the virtual world, he could still transform into his original body.

Noka was not as flustered as Ming Huan thought he would be when he came back from the dead.

Facing the battleship coming after him, he was doing the auxiliary button operation perfectly.

“Are you a student of the Federation’s 1st Military Academy?” Noka asked, “I can’t think of any other school that offers such quality instruction.”

“Apparently, there is.”

“Oh?”

Ming Huan didn’t even look at Noka’s familiar operation, “Don’t you know that this war machine is like the back of your hand too?”

‘His powers of observation.’

‘Unexpectedly amazing.’

Noka’s fingers stalled and a buffer button was not pressed down so the fuselage slightly shook in a violent manner.

“No, this type of warplane console is very similar to others, I have tried similar ones before….”

“I did tell you that its protective shield can only support thirty seconds.” Ming Huan maneuvered skillfully, “But I don’t remember telling you that it could only protect one person.”

Noka’s fingers froze, and he missed several buttons of the off-ground control button at once.

However, the button was automatically depressed to their surprise, and the fuselage escaped the gravitational force and howling wind before it flew into the sky. The dexterous warplane flew into the darkness.

Ming Huan mildly looked at him during this time, looking askance at him, “Noka, this warplane is something that only Federation’s 1st Military Academy has a sample of. The detailed records and operation information are also there, how do you know this data?”

Noka did not extend his hand.

He seemed to be stumped by Ming Huan’s question.

However,  his gaze grew deeper and deeper as he looked at the hundreds of complex control keys in front of him, which were constantly and automatically pressed down with interlocking flickers of micro-manges.

This war machine was in the extremely rapid ‘automatic’ leap operation.

Under Ming Huan’s command, it was like a pet that obeyed its master’s orders.

Noka then remembered that something just felt wrong.

This was a two-man war machine, and it took two people to start it up.

So how did Ming Huan get the fighter in front of him just before he entered in here to assist in the flight?

Obviously there were more questions, but Noka was not prepared to continue talking to Ming Huan.

Just before the leap was about to be completed, Noka reached out and quickly pressed the abort button.

The airframe shook violently.

“Sorry about that, Ming Huan. I will come to you later if I have the chance.”

With a loud bursting sound, Noka’s voice annihilated in the sky above the boundless universe, Ming Huan felt himself surrounded by huge tongues of fire for a moment, and he woke up in the examination room the next moment.

His forehead was covered with sweat.

‘Failure.’

‘He ‘died’.’’

Only a reconnaissance fighter would have this one-button self-destruct design start button, and Noka obviously knew more about the construction of this fighter than he thought. In a moment of defensiveness, the two people had actually both ‘died’.

‘It’s over, it’s over, it’s over.’

He failed his second test.

He had boasted before to Yu Hanzhou that he would be able to pass the exam this time.

Ming Huan went back to the dormitory building and did not see Noka. His bed was empty, as if this person had never existed before.

Ming Huan was a bit confused.

The last time, it was decided that he had not passed, but at least he had survived in the virtual world.

This time, he had actually died directly.

If Yu Hanzhou knew about this, he would have directly laughed at him.

It’s really not a good time to do so.

‘No, this time it’s all Noka’s fault. Why can’t you think about it before you suddenly decide to blow yourself up?’

Originally, the leap operation was about to be completed.

Ming Huan, with his mind in turmoil, walked out of his dormitory building with the intention to buy another interstellar ticket back to Capital Star. It was to his surprise that there was a special flight of the military department waiting outside.

Ming Huan felt that both sides of his face hurt like hell.

This was the pain of a punch in the face.

He hung his head as the cabin door opened.

Yu Hanzhou was really sitting inside.

When he took the test, Yu Hanzhou did not bring him here, but he came to pick him up when he failed the test.

‘What kind of social death scene was this?’

Ming Huan’s mood was so low that he couldn’t be more depressed, and his head was drooping to his knees.

Yu Hanzhou’s legs were folded and he was sitting on a leather bench. His white hands gently rested on his knees as he took in the information that he was looking at back to his terminal, He raised his eyes to look at Ming Huan’s nervous look and laughed out loud, “What’s wrong?”

Ming Huan clenched his fist and made no sound like a muffled gourd.

“What do you want? Tell me.”

Ming Huan looked up suddenly, feeling a little shocked.

“Why? You still don’t know?” Yu Hanzhou said slowly, “You passed the exam, Mr. Junior Commander.”

‘Pass, passed?’

Ming Huan was so shocked that his eyes turned into vertical pupils for a moment.

‘How did he pass?’

‘He blew himself up, he was ‘dead’, right?’

Eh. ‘Death’ meant that the examination would end.

It did not mean that he didn’t pass the examination, ah!

‘However, he was not able to escape the pursuit of hunting-type warships, and even the final fuselage blew itself up. Can he still pass?’

‘Why did he fail last time?’

Ming Huan’s face changed several times which interested Yu Hanzhou, and his body leaned forward slightly, “What’s wrong? You thought you wouldn’t pass. What happened in the exam?”

Ming Huan’s face was unprecedentedly ugly, “Yu Hanzhou. Junior commander exam, what exactly is the test?”

Capital Star, Identification Section.

“Little one, go in.”

Xie Shuci entered expressionlessly, and his delicate face looked as cold as frost in the moment. After reaching his hand to the detection instrument, the instrument made a “ding” sound.

Xie Jue had already started to arrange the procedures for him to transfer to another school, and in between, he was scheduled to take the [pre-match] test.

Xie Shuci’s mental energy was SS-level, and he was also extremely good-looking.

The pre-match was not a final match, but it was extremely accurate.

Xie Jue hoped that his son would be matched with someone good and powerful, and if the match did not turn out as expected, he would use the match as a reason to start introducing him to the children of political and business celebrities on Capital Star.

Xie Shuci’s face was dark, and he was holding a glass of water in his hand, but his throat felt dry and thirsty.

He was obviously a little tired of this constantly arranged future.

[Ding, identification result.]

[Match successful. Matching degree: 67%. Name: Ming Huan, Coordinates: Capital Star.]

The glass of water in his hand fell to the ground.

Water splashed everywhere.

  1. YAAAAYYYYYY‼️‼️‼️‼️ He matched with Ming Huang 🥰🥰

Also, wonder what was up with that Noka kid, and why Ming Huan passed. Did Noka know so much because he was cheating?

  2. Oh crap. Can’t MH remain an Alpha.
For the test, I wonder if he was meant to die, to pass… he realised there was something off about Noka, who then blew them both up. So maybe his character wasn’t a partner, but a spy or something, which he missed last time, but was working out this time?
Thank you both for the chapter.
