Chapter 33: Inhibitor Failure

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

They had lost the match. At that moment, everyone else walked out dejectedly. Zhao Ze was waiting outside the door, quietly comforting the others.

Ji Jin gently shook his head but felt weak all over. He had no strength at all. His heat period had previously stabilized somewhat due to Lu Yao’s temporary mark, so it shouldn’t have been this fierce…

How could it suddenly…

Fortunately, Ji Jin had a good habit: even if he wasn’t in heat during a match, he always carried an oral inhibitor. He immediately took the inhibitor out of his pocket and swallowed it, then propped himself up and forced himself to walk outside.

Zhao Ze had already comforted the teammates once and now stood near the door waiting for Ji Jin to come out. Although they had been swept by IKW today, he had truly seen the team’s progress. Previously, they basically just waited for IKW to push in twenty minutes, but now they were fighting the opponents evenly, winning and losing half the time. This was a huge improvement and showed that God Ji’s joining MOE was definitely the right move.

“God Ji? What’s wrong?” Zhao Ze was a little stunned looking at Ji Jin as he came out of the quiet room, instinctively reaching to support him.

Ji Jin’s face was pale with a slight flush, a thin layer of sweat shimmering on his forehead, looking extremely unwell. He was barely able to stand and almost fell into Zhao Ze’s arms.

“I think my heat period… is coming,” Ji Jin said, breathing rapidly, his voice as low as possible. “You go handle the media at the front desk first. There’s an Omega-only room in the stadium—I’ll go hide there for a while.”

“God Ji…!” Zhao Ze’s heart jolted. “I’ll find someone to go with you. You can’t go alone…”

“No need. You’re the only Beta in the team; the rest are all Alphas. An Omega in heat escorted by Alphas? They’d probably start something before we even get to the Omega room.” Ji Jin gave a self-mocking laugh, straightening himself against the wall. “I’ve already taken the inhibitor, and the Omega room isn’t far from here. Don’t worry about me. You’re the team manager. It’d be hard if you weren’t at the post-match interview.”

Zhao Ze didn’t smell any pheromones on Ji Jin, so he hesitated then nodded. “Alright, God Ji, take care of yourself. Call immediately if there’s a problem. I’ll come find you as soon as it’s over.”

The backstage was strictly closed—only staff and pro players were allowed inside. The Omega room was indeed close by, so Zhao Ze felt it unlikely that anything would go wrong.

Ji Jin nodded and, supporting himself on the wall, hurried toward the Omega room backstage. The match had ended, and there were hardly any people backstage. All the noisy chatter was concentrated at the front desk, making it chaotic and annoying.

He thought to himself that it was almost time for the post-match interviews and quickened his pace. He didn’t want to go into heat in public.

He walked faster and faster, feeling as if something was following him. Ji Jin looked back but saw nothing, as if it was just a side effect of his heat.

Getting closer and closer to the Omega room, Ji Jin felt his steps grow heavier, a heat slowly rising inside him, and an inexplicable itch spreading all over his body.

How could this be… Ji Jin’s heart sank. He clearly had taken the inhibitor, and the medicine should still have been working. How could it suddenly fail?

But the heat inside made it impossible for him to think. He felt strange all over, longing for the youthful Alpha’s touch, craving the pheromones that could bring him happiness and safety.

He even smelled a faint scent of heather Alpha pheromones. The scent was very light and didn’t match his pheromones well, so it didn’t affect him too much. But when an Omega was in heat, it would attract Alphas nearby to come claim them, so he needed to leave immediately.

Ji Jin stumbled forward but was grabbed just as his hand reached for the Omega room’s door handle. The hand was hot and burning, like a red-hot iron pressing against his skin, causing Ji Jin to cry out in surprise.

The scent of plum wine flooded Ji Jin like an endless tide. Under the overwhelming pheromone pressure, Ji Jin couldn’t move at all. When he finally came to, he found himself pressed against the wall by the person in front of him, completely immobilized.

It was Lu Yao.

“Brother, why are you here?” Lu Yao lowered his head and sniffed Ji Jin’s scent, his breath brushing Ji Jin’s neck, making Ji Jin both uncomfortable and restless. “You didn’t go to the interview either?”

“How… how are you here?” Ji Jin sensed that his pheromones were still trapped at the back of his neck by the pheromone patches and inhibitor, not yet dispersed, but once the inhibitor failed completely, the whole backstage would smell of him. He had to leave and get into the specially isolated Omega room.

“Because there are some things I want to ask you…” Lu Yao pressed tightly against Ji Jin, his eyes bloodshot and wild, filled with a frightening determination.

“Hm?” Ji Jin, tormented by his heat, was nearly losing his reason. His thoughts weren’t on Lu Yao but on hoping that Lu Yao would remove the heavy burden from him and claim him without hesitation.

“Whose child is it… Brother?” Lu Yao’s voice was sharp with biting cruelty, and his eyes seemed to glow red. The IKW and MOE resting areas were close. Lu Yao had seen with his own eyes a man holding Ji Xingxing playing around—a man who bore a three- or four-point resemblance to Ji Xingxing.

Ji Jin had even kissed that man!

Although he had said before things like being an underground lover, when he saw that Ji Jin really had other Alphas, he absolutely could not tolerate it. Because of that, today’s game was played very aggressively and impatiently. Even Yu Huanhuan knew that something must have happened today.

He could tolerate Ji Xingxing’s existence, and he could tolerate that other Alphas once had a place in Ji Jin’s heart, but he had thought that he could… take their place.

But reality told him that all his thoughts were just a foolish dream.

Because he had rushed over too quickly, Lu Yao broke out in a thin sweat. At this moment, anger filled his heart, and he involuntarily released a large amount of pheromones. Normally, this concentration of pheromones alone would be enough to trigger a false heat in an Omega, let alone Ji Jin, who was already in heat but was just being masked by a failing suppressant.

At this moment, Ji Jin’s mind was completely unable to think. He only knew that he was unbearably hot and needed something to cool down. He was like a barrel full of oil, where even the smallest spark could ignite it, but instead, the overwhelming scent of plum wine pheromones surrounded him like a raging fire, making him almost explode from heat.

His own pheromones seemed to be covered by an invisible hand, unable to be released no matter how hard he tried, which frustrated him to the point of tears.

“Why aren’t you saying anything, brother?” Lu Yao’s anger had not dissipated. He desperately wanted the person in front of him to deny it, to deny that he liked that strange man.

Ji Jin was pushed to the brink of collapse by the invisible pheromones and his body’s desires. He even subconsciously wanted to reveal the truth. His lips trembled slightly, “He is… Ji Xingxing’s father…”

Lu Yao held his breath. He had not expected to get the truth so easily. He instinctively leaned closer to Ji Jin to hear better, but then—

Ji Jin rose on his tiptoes and kissed Lu Yao directly on the lips.

In that instant, the strawberry-scented pheromones exploded like a bomb in the air. The suppressant in Ji Jin’s body had completely failed, along with the suppressant bracelet and sticker… all of them lost effectiveness!

Lu Yao was stunned by Ji Jin’s sudden initiative. He had been waiting for Ji Jin’s answer, but instead, he was met with a kiss full of sweet strawberry fragrance.

The sweet strawberry scent was rich and fragrant, like the freshest, juiciest strawberry, dripping with juice as if biting into it. While Lu Yao was stunned, Ji Jin had already actively slid his tongue into Lu Yao’s mouth. The soft moan was enough to make anyone turn into a beast.

“Brother… why did you suddenly…” Lu Yao was slightly shocked. He had just smelled only a little pheromone scent, how could it suddenly become like this?

The Omega he adored was in heat in front of him, naturally making him distracted. But this was the backstage of the arena, and many staff would come in after the final interview.

Lu Yao diverted his attention and looked up, just seeing the room in front of him was the Omega-only room. He had no time to think further, picked up Ji Jin, opened the door, and went straight inside, locking the door behind them.

The Omega-only room was mainly designed to protect Omegas who suddenly went into heat. Inside, there was only a dim night light, a cabinet with essential items for Omegas, and a soft big bed.

Ji Jin felt nothing now. He was like a small fish in hot water, being boiled but unable to escape. He pressed his legs together in discomfort. The only person in the world who could save him was the one in front of him… but that person was distracted doing something else.

This realization made Ji Jin feel both wronged and sad. He grabbed Lu Yao’s collar, looked up, and bit down on Lu Yao’s Adam’s apple, until the person in front cried out in pain and he felt satisfied.

Lu Yao’s eyes were almost bloodshot, veins bulged on his temples. He wanted nothing more than to tear the person in front of him apart and swallow him whole, eating every bone. The strawberry-scented pheromones were like the sweetest trap, guiding him to willingly fall into it.

“Brother… brother…” Lu Yao’s voice was hoarse and rough. His gaze fixed on Ji Jin lying on the bed.

Ji Jin, having been exposed as an Omega, completely released himself. He no longer cared about hiding the thickly wrapped Omega suppressant bracelet. Today he wore only a loose short sleeve shirt, struggling and revealing a small patch of fair, translucent skin around his waist.

“You called my name… brother…” Lu Yao swallowed instinctively. His reason was constantly fighting the pheromones. The air seemed to burn like a fire, threatening to burn everything to ashes.

But he needed to know if Ji Jin really knew that the person he was with now was him.

It was Lu Yao… no one else.

“Lu Yao! If you don’t do it… I’ll go find…” Ji Jin still had a bit of clarity. He bit his teeth and shouted this sentence, his whole body flushing pink.

But before he could finish, Lu Yao had already rushed over impatiently.

What a joke, Lu Yao never played the gentleman.
