Chapter 39: Pregnancy

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Ji Jin’s answer about the keyboard was flawless, leaving the reporters who wanted to find loopholes helpless and forced to give up. A few more match-related questions were asked, and the post-match interview soon came to an end.

Zhao Ze organized all the team members to leave their seats and led them back to the hotel near the stadium. The hotel was just a few steps from the arena, so the MOE group strolled back casually. Ji Jin glanced back and saw Lu Yao trailing behind the whole time.

When Ji Jin returned to his room, he deliberately slowed his pace and was the last to open the door. Just as he was about to close it, Lu Yao slipped in like a slippery eel, clinging to Ji Jin tightly.

“Brother, why do you have no sense of caution? You let anyone in so easily?” Lu Yao immediately wrapped Ji Jin in a full embrace. Ji Jin was slightly shorter and an Omega—he was almost immobile in Lu Yao’s arms, only able to feel the young man’s burning body.

Hearing this, Ji Jin smiled inwardly. His nose was filled with the scent of plum wine. After the heat period, his body seemed to remember this kind of pleasurable scent automatically and softened instinctively, not rejecting Lu Yao’s embrace at all; instead, it felt comfortable and warm.

Most pregnant Omegas were marked. The Alpha’s pheromones would reassure the Omega and soothe the little life inside the womb. But Ji Jin wasn’t marked, and unmarked Omegas often felt very insecure because of this, experiencing stronger physiological reactions.

It had only been a little over a month, but Ji Jin already felt noticeably weaker, especially always feeling hungry. Like now—he had just eaten dinner before the match, and yet his stomach ached from hunger.

Smelling Lu Yao’s pheromones provided only slight relief.

“Why did you come so early?” Ji Jin pushed Lu Yao lightly, signaling him to let go. But instead of releasing him, Lu Yao lifted Ji Jin up and laid him down on the bed.

Ji Jin was caught off guard, feeling his legs suddenly empty and then finding himself on the bed. Because of the hunger in his belly, he was a little dazed.

“Of course, it’s because I wanted to see you. You haven’t seen me for two weeks—didn’t you miss me?” Lu Yao stood above Ji Jin, looking down at him. His eyes were gentle and sparkling with longing.

“…” Ji Jin opened his mouth but didn’t know how to respond. Since the heat period, their relationship had become awkward.

He hadn’t agreed to Lu Yao’s request to support him financially, nor to be in a relationship. But because of the heat period, they had done the most intimate things. Due to Ji Xingxing and the baby in his belly, their relationship wasn’t as simple as just casual friends.

“Brother, don’t talk,” Lu Yao stopped Ji Jin in advance, then lowered his head and gently brushed Ji Jin’s lips with his own, barely touching before pulling away.

Ji Jin only felt a tingling at the corner of his lips before Lu Yao had already withdrawn.

“I know you miss me too,” Lu Yao’s voice was low and hoarse. He had rushed over right after finishing his match this afternoon, ignoring everything, dusty and tired, just to see his brother.

He was afraid of hearing something from Ji Jin that he didn’t want to hear, so he stopped him early.

“I do… miss you,” Ji Jin said softly, sitting on the bed with his head lowered. His voice was light and gentle, unusually soft and melodic like an Omega’s.

Lu Yao froze, instinctively squatting down to support Ji Jin’s arm, wanting to meet his eyes, but Ji Jin avoided his gaze.

“What did you say? Say it again, say it again!” Lu Yao’s voice was joyful and anxious, like a child holding a key but unable to find the lock.

Ji Jin quickly kissed Lu Yao on the lips and whispered, “Miss you.”

—The babies miss you too.

Ji Jin thought quietly to himself. Perhaps it really was because of the pregnancy and the long time apart from Lu Yao. Seeing Lu Yao made all the cells in his body come alive.

This feeling was a little strange, but he didn’t dislike it.

The only embarrassing thing was that his hungry stomach ached.

“Have you eaten?” Ji Jin couldn’t stand the hunger and asked. “Do you want something? I want to order takeout.”

Lately, Ji Jin felt he couldn’t eat enough, especially late at night when it was quiet.

Lu Yao shook his head, signaling he hadn’t eaten yet.

Ji Jin quickly ordered takeout, secretly adding extra food to cover up how much he would eat. After ordering, Ji Jin lay down on the bed, fatigue making his eyes almost unable to stay open.

Seeing Ji Jin so tired, Lu Yao didn’t disturb him and went to wash his face in the bathroom. The afternoon flight had been exhausting, but the thought of seeing his brother made him ignore everything else.

Today, he had won his match, and so had his brother.

Lu Yao felt happy. After a simple wash, he prepared to lie down next to Ji Jin, thinking that just watching Ji Jin sleep would be wonderful.

But as he walked to the other side of the bed, he noticed a few sheets of paper on the nightstand.

The first page was a blood test report, with Ji Jin’s medical information. Lu Yao was familiar with the team’s joining process; if there was a health problem, it was unlikely someone could become a pro player. Ji Jin’s health appeared fine.

But for some reason, there was a medical check done just yesterday.

The blood test data looked mostly normal, except the pheromone concentration was a bit low, though not too extreme.

After finishing the blood test report, Lu Yao was about to put it down, but something made him suddenly flip to the next page.

It was an ultrasound report.

Ji Jin’s ultrasound report… Lu Yao was slightly shocked. He carefully read every word, and due to nerves, felt as if he recognized every character but couldn’t understand them.

Even his hands, normally steady as a professional esports player, were trembling.

Esports players had to keep very steady hands to perform precise actions, especially in a detailed game like Legend Reappearance, which demanded high skill.

After a moment of staring, Lu Yao finally understood what the ultrasound meant—

Ji Jin was pregnant.

His brother… was pregnant, and Lu Yao was almost certain it was his child.

Lu Yao’s mouth uncontrollably curled into a wide grin, almost laughing out loud. He held the ultrasound report close to his chest, as if it were the most precious treasure in the world.

His brother was going to have his child — a small life growing inside him. This little life carried his own bones, had his brother’s blood, and was their unique blessing.

With this child, he could openly keep his brother by his side, bind him to his life, and wouldn’t have to feel like a crazy person endlessly missing someone, nor worry about his brother leaving again.

But his smile vanished in less than a minute.

He looked at the ultrasound report as if he had seen the scariest thing in the world. He instinctively threw the report back onto the bedside table, but couldn’t help picking it back up, gently stroking the image.

Having a child was of course a good thing, but this child came at the worst possible time.

Lu Yao stared at the report for a long while, then looked down at it again before lifting his gaze to Ji Jin’s sleeping face. His brother looked exhausted, sleeping soundly on the bed. His fair skin had a faint pink glow from sleep, and his lightly pink lips were tightly closed, making Lu Yao unable to resist wanting to kiss him.

He bent down to get closer to his beloved brother, but just as he was about to touch Ji Jin’s lips, there was a knock at the door.

Lu Yao reluctantly pulled away and quickly went to open it.

It was the delivery person with the food Ji Jin had ordered. The delivery guy carried two large bags, enough food for three or four people. Lu Yao was shocked by the amount of food and stared wide-eyed as he took the bags.

“Is the delivery here?” Ji Jin heard the noise and woke up, still drowsy with sleepy eyes, his cheeks pressed and flushed pink.

Lu Yao brought the food inside and took everything out of the bags one by one. The first dish was grilled pork belly, cut into evenly thick slices, sizzling with oil, with a crispy skin layer. Just seeing it made him imagine the crunchy texture when biting into it. The second dish was sour and spicy noodles, the pungent smell immediately hitting the nose. The third was iron plate fried tofu, crispy on the outside and tender inside, topped with secret sauce and sprinkled with chopped green onions, making one drool.

Just smelling the food awakened Ji Jin. He touched his belly and felt the hunger painfully gnawing inside him, unable to wait a second longer.

“Let’s eat together. I ordered some for you too.” Ji Jin climbed out of bed and started stuffing food into his mouth. His eating was always neat, and even when starving, he looked graceful — only his cheeks puffed up like a little hamster.

Lu Yao’s heart melted at how cute he looked, almost wanting to pinch Ji Jin’s cheeks.

He ate a little too, but every time he thought of the ultrasound report, he felt unable to taste the food properly.

Finally, after Ji Jin finished eating and lay down, rubbing his full belly to rest, Lu Yao solemnly sat beside him and took out the ultrasound report he had seen earlier.

Ji Jin, chewing on an apple, saw Lu Yao’s action and instinctively looked for the medical reports on the bedside table, but found nothing there. His heart skipped a beat.

Had he been found out? Ji Jin thought his secret was well hidden except for forgetting to put away the medical report.

“Brother… are you pregnant?” Lu Yao’s voice trembled slightly, unsure whether it was excitement or something else.

He raised his eyes and stared directly into Ji Jin’s eyes, not allowing him to avoid the question. The scent of plum wine slowly filled the air, gradually saturating the room.

He was trying to lure Ji Jin, using his pheromones to coax the truth out.

But Ji Jin didn’t fall for it.

When he was pregnant with Ji Xingxing, he hadn’t feared anyone, only choosing not to tell Lu Yao because it was unnecessary. At that time, Lu Yao was still young, a trainee with no contract or income, and telling him would have been a burden.

Besides, the IKW higher-ups already had no place for him then.

Now the situation was different, and since Lu Yao already knew, there was no need to hide it anymore.

“Yes.”

“Pregnant.”

“You.”

“Maybe even twins.”

Ji Jin answered dryly, each short sentence landing like thunder, stunning Lu Yao into a daze.

Author’s note:

Ji Jin: Can’t hide it anymore, better be honest.

Lu Yao: This news is a little scary, I need to process it.

Ji Xingxing: Wuwuwu, I’m not your only little baby anymore!
