Chapter 43: Tricked into Meeting the Parents

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

“Brother hid so much from me,” Lu Yao stared fixedly at Ji Jin, trying to find something in his expression, but he failed. Ji Jin’s expression didn’t change at all.

“It wasn’t a big deal,” Ji Jin cleared his throat and looked up to meet Lu Yao’s eyes. “It was my own reason, not really related to you.”

“How could it not be related to me?” Lu Yao’s face showed anger and frustration. “I took your place… I just wanted to… just wanted to play games with you.”

At that time, Ji Jin was extremely popular. Everyone who played games worshiped him like a god. Lu Yao joined the professional league because he wanted to get close to this god and one day play games together with him.

But he actually dragged his god down from the altar.

(Author’s note: You didn’t just drag him down from the altar, you dragged him down and messed him over repeatedly.)

Lu Yao didn’t even know the real reason and secretly blamed Ji Jin for giving up esports too easily. If he had known earlier, it would have been better never to have stepped into esports at all and just admired from afar.

“Even without you, there would have been someone else. The IKW executives had disliked me for a long time, always waiting for an excellent Alpha player to take over,” Ji Jin patted Lu Yao’s shoulder. “The problem wasn’t you, it was me. I wasn’t good enough and gave the team a reason. Look, in MOE, even though I’m an Omega, the team was willing to accept me.”

The essence was that he was not needed, not because Lu Yao joined.

“Then if there were no IKW executives, would you still… come back?” Lu Yao asked softly, his voice light, full of hope and testing. The words “no” came out very firmly, as if he already had a plan in mind.

“Hm? What are you trying to do now?” Ji Jin suddenly remembered the news Zhao Ze had shown him earlier. The IKW executives were withdrawing investment. Yesterday Lu Yao had talked with the executives—something big was happening. But if Lu Yao had already negotiated for them not to withdraw, Ji Jin wouldn’t be able to return to IKW. After all, the five-person team worked well together as a champion lineup, and if he came back, someone would have to be benched.

“Don’t think about anything else, brother. Just answer if you’re willing to come back. If you come back, there will definitely be a spot for you, and no one will be benched,” Lu Yao said confidently and assuredly, making people wonder what plan he had thought up.

“Of course I want to come back,” Ji Jin said suspiciously, looking at Lu Yao. “What exactly is your plan? Don’t mess around.”

Since joining the league, Ji Jin had always been on IKW, going through difficulties with the whole team, overcoming crises, and sharing honors together.

For him, IKW was different.

“I won’t mess around, but I need your help,” Lu Yao teased, not explaining clearly.

Ji Jin knew Lu Yao was usually sensible. Since he didn’t explain, Ji Jin didn’t press further.

After standing for so long and playing a match, they went out to eat, and Ji Jin felt tired. He pushed Lu Yao away and prepared to wash up and sleep. Lu Yao clung to him like a little puppy and even in bed snuggled close, holding Ji Jin’s waist.

Ji Jin wanted to send him away but thought about how Lu Yao had derailed the topic earlier and hadn’t rejected his confession. Besides, where could he send Lu Yao so late at night? So he let it go.

Early the next morning, Lu Yao returned to G City for another match. Without Lu Yao, the team couldn’t afford to lose. After coming to C City once, Lu Yao’s mentality had stabilized a lot. Ji Jin saw the match stats; IKW had returned to their previous form and even had higher morale. Each of the last few matches had been 2:0 victories.

The news about IKW withdrawing investment hadn’t reappeared, so it seemed Lu Yao had settled that issue.

MOE’s performance was also stable, and at the end of the regular season, their ranking was quite good with playoff hopes.

The playoffs were held among the top 8 teams from the regular season in a single round-robin BO3 (best-of-three) format, totaling 28 matches over three weeks. There was a one-week gap between the regular season and playoffs. Because the playoffs were short, all matches took place in B City without rotating venues.

After the regular season, teams went back home to prepare for the next stage. Bigger teams even flew directly to B City to rest.

For Ji Jin, though, he needed to use this week to… have a prenatal checkup.

But the first thing Ji Jin did was to bring Ji Xingxing back.

As soon as Ji Jin returned to B City, he asked Ji Huan to send Ji Xingxing back. Ji Xingxing had been living with Ji Huan for a month, spending every day with the childcare teacher. When he was returned, he was so angry that he turned to face the wall, refusing to look at Ji Jin.

“Baby doesn’t want daddy! Doesn’t want daddy!” Ji Xingxing refused to look at Ji Jin even once.

“Daddy went to work to earn money for baby. Without money, baby would be hungry and have no yogurt,” Ji Jin squatted behind Ji Xingxing to comfort him. He gently forced Ji Xingxing to turn to face him and found tears streaming down his face, crying heartbrokenly.

“It’s daddy’s fault, daddy’s fault. I’ll bring Xingxing everywhere from now on, okay?” Ji Jin hadn’t expected Ji Xingxing to cry so much and hurriedly comforted him.

“Daddy said he’d bring baby everywhere, boohoo…” Ji Xingxing buried himself in Ji Jin’s arms and cried like a sad little kid, his eyes red and swollen.

“All right, all right, wherever daddy goes, he’ll bring baby,” Ji Jin gently coaxed while holding Ji Xingxing. The little one cried so hard he eventually fell asleep in his arms.

Because Ji Xingxing had disappeared for a month due to the matches, he became especially clingy. He followed Ji Jin everywhere, held his hand to sleep, and even stuck by the bathroom door.

Ji Jin couldn’t even go to the bathroom himself, having to wait until Ji Xingxing fell asleep.

In the end, Ji Xingxing even went with him to the prenatal checkup.

Male Omegas’ bodies originally were not as well-developed as female Omegas’. Female Omegas’ bodies tended to be more delicate, but during pregnancy they usually did not have many problems. Male Omegas, due to their male characteristics, had slightly stronger bodies than females, but they experienced more issues during pregnancy. On top of that, Ji Jin’s current pregnancy was a twin pregnancy, so prenatal checkups were very necessary and had to be more frequent than for a single fetus.

That day when Lu Yao confessed, Ji Jin got sidetracked and forgot to reject him. Naturally, Lu Yao seized the opportunity and pressed on, and the two were only one step away from officially becoming a couple. When Ji Jin went for prenatal checkups, Lu Yao came along to accompany him.

However, because the Omega area was restricted, Lu Yao could not enter. In the end, Ji Jin went into the checkups alone, while Lu Yao stayed outside to watch Ji Xingxing.

After the full set of prenatal checkups, Ji Jin felt a bit tired but was relieved that the babies were fine and looked very healthy on the ultrasound.

The only thing that surprised Ji Jin was when the doctor told him the twins might be fraternal twins (a boy and a girl).

It was said that Omegas tended to conceive easily, and having multiples was quite common, but fraternal twins were relatively rare.

When Ji Jin came out holding the ultrasound report, his expression was somewhat thoughtful. Last time, the doctor wasn’t sure and said it might be twins, so Ji Jin hadn’t taken it seriously. But now it was confirmed — twins, and fraternal twins at that.

Suddenly, he felt the two-month pregnancy belly to be a bit heavy.

“Daddy!” Ji Xingxing flew quickly in front of Ji Jin as soon as he saw him come out. Today he wore a panda suit with a small panda hat, looking adorably chubby.

Just as Ji Xingxing almost jumped onto Ji Jin’s legs, Lu Yao grabbed his clothes and pulled him back.

“Your daddy has little babies in his belly, Xingxing has to be gentle,” Lu Yao squatted down and said to Ji Xingxing, “There is a little brother or little sister in there. Xingxing has to protect daddy, okay?”

“Sister! There’s a little sister!” Out of the long sentence, Ji Xingxing only heard the word “sister,” and his big eyes instantly lit up. “Daddy has a little sister in his belly! The baby will be a little sister!”

Lu Yao suddenly felt like he had brought trouble on himself. If the twins had both been boys, Ji Xingxing might have been disappointed.

Since the checkup was finished, the three of them got into the car to go home. Lu Yao drove, with Ji Jin and Ji Xingxing sitting in the passenger seat.

“How did brother’s checkup go?” Lu Yao asked while driving. “No problems, right?”

“No problems,” Ji Jin answered casually. At two months, prenatal checkups weren’t very accurate. Ji Jin did not plan to tell Lu Yao about the fraternal twins in advance. “The blood tests aren’t back yet, but the ultrasound looked good.”

“That’s good,” Lu Yao nodded without asking more.

Ji Jin held Ji Xingxing, who looked curiously at Ji Jin’s small belly and kept trying to reach out to touch it. Ji Jin played with him for a while, but when he looked up, he noticed Lu Yao was not driving the way back to MOE headquarters.

“Where are you taking me?” Ji Jin asked confusedly. Even if Lu Yao wanted to spend more time with him, he thought they should have gone to a small apartment near MOE headquarters.

“I want to ask big brother for a favor,” Lu Yao chuckled lightly, a victorious gleam in his smile.

Ji Jin felt something was off but couldn’t guess what Lu Yao might do.

The SUV drove toward the suburbs, entering an upscale villa area without leaving the city. This area was famous for being full of the wealthiest people. Even Ji Jin, who didn’t care much about the outside world, knew how expensive the houses there were.

With Lu Yao’s status, he probably couldn’t even afford a single toilet there. But surprisingly, the SUV, which was modest compared to the villas, entered the gated area easily without any obstacle.

“What place is this?” Ji Jin felt a little uneasy, as if something had slipped out of control. Especially seeing Lu Yao’s smile, as if digging a pit for him to fall into.

Lu Yao parked in front of a villa in the center of the area, then looked up and honestly prepared to talk to Ji Jin. Pointing to the villa with a small garden beside it, he said nonchalantly, “This is… my home. Brother is pregnant, so you should meet my family.”

Ji Jin: !!!

Lu Yao looked at Ji Jin’s surprised expression and smiled sheepishly. “Brother’s pregnancy is hard, so I can only come back to rely on my family. Brother’s carrying my babies… we can’t break up now.”

Lu Yao gave him an innocent look again, but Ji Jin felt deeply resentful of that expression at that moment.

He hadn’t agreed to be together, yet this person went behind his back and took him to meet the family!

Author’s note:

Ji Jin: When others date, don’t they first pursue, confess, propose, then meet the family? Why does it jump straight to meeting the family here?

Lu Yao: Don’t overthink it, first meet the family and then talk. Anyway, the baby’s already there, and the billion-dollar inheritance should belong to big brother too!!

Lu’s mom: Why does the little Xingxing following behind look exactly like my son when he was little?

  1. With omegas being so sought after, I suppose parents are more understanding than they might otherwise be?
What’s the author’s strange note, earlier in this chapter? How did LY mess JJ over repeatedly? It makes it sound like LY wanted to harm JJ from the start, and everything was forced by him, on JJ.
Thank you both for the chapter.
