Does it bother you when big Hollywood movies switch asian characters for white ones, (example: live action Ghost in the Shell) or stick a white character in an asian story where they don’t belong? (example: The Last Samurai)
caicaicat — Yes but then like at some point i realized that lot of Americans seem to think that the characters in anime ARE white. And that bothered me even more.
gaeatiamat — Well if you look at out historical cartoon images of Asians which are terribly racist, and how anime features can smooth out some of the details it’s not a surprise.

Yes, it does. Especially when their (and outside of USA) actor gene pool is big and talented enough that they could easily use Asian actors/tresses.
It actually puts me off.
The arrogance and narrow mindedness is astounding, frankly.
if it’s canon, let’s say there’s a drama about shinsengumi set when commodore perry’s ship docked in japan. automatically, the actor playing the commodore should be white actor.
but, if you talk about rings of p*wer series from *mazon that swapped race and destroying the original lore. it’s a HUGE crime!!! i can’t tolerate it.
same as dragon ball movie, the great wall, fullmetal alchemist movies etc.
