Question of the Day: Day 3

Today’s question of the day is:

What is a major deterrent when reading a novel? (i.e. Annoying dialogue, too much dog blood (angst), not enough romance, etc.)

Addis’answer: I hate if there is not a balance between dog blood and romance. I was reading this one omegaverse novel where the omega ended up pregnant and forced the alpha into marrying him. Then because of something the omega overheard and didn’t get clarified, after the baby was born, he ran away. And the alpha was like, oh, I actually love him etc. Then he didn’t find the omega for TWO YEARS. They finally got back together but at that point I stopped and skipped to the end, reading the last chapter because I couldn’t do it any longer.

I also hate when the ml and MC just “suddenly” love each other. Like, the only thing they did was spend the last 30 chapters together and nothing else, but now they be like, I love you!

honestly, it’s when there’s too much one-sided love. like it annoys me when the novel is fluffy and comedic but like there’s only one person giving there all while the other person sits there looking pretty

What i hate? Probably hateful seme and dumb uke..like a dogblood drama or too much angst that is annoying…angst that made me cry I’m ok..but annoying angst..not for me…like if that person just abuse you all the time and when you ran away he suddenly like you…and then you just can’t let go of him and went back together again?no no

A dumb plot with too many holes. A stupid uke that is so dense i feel bad for his admirers bc he is just gonna keep relentlessly breaking their heart without knowing and if he found out, would probably wangst annoyingly about it. When the uke who is a perfectly nice person just gets absolutely zero respect and constant harassment. When the seme is so over-the-top yandere and into things like amputati just to keep the uke with him that I’m actively rooting for the main couple to not get together.

Single brain cell female characters. I understand that the BL is all about the boys but there are stories where women are portrayed quite shallow.

Lol to me I hate RAPE.. I can barely read the forced one like omegaverse or the seme got drug by others so they’re not in their right mind.. but I wish they realize what they have done n take responsibility of it rather than denying it ever happened.. yeah it suck when they realize they love them after they go.. I hate slow pace romance too.. didn’t say they have to get in bed in one chapter but at least not HOLD HAND AFTER 100 CHAPTER 😂😂😂 at times like this I wanna murder the author so bad..

Id say too much fluff and or slice of life that has little to no action. If im reading a cultivation novel I would still like the ratio to be a bit more that 2:8, 2 being other stuff other than romance and the 8 being the romance.

I recently read a novel where the MC and ML became a power couple too early and basically, the remaining bigger half of the story, they simply dealt with minor cannon fodder here and there, just to keep the plot going when clearly the romance subplot was already complete. It became instantly boring and annoying and I stopped reading altogether.

So, tu sum it up, when the story just drags on and becomes boring, that’s when I drop it.

Abusive semes get on my last nerve. A perfect example is Hua Hua You Long. I just finished hate reading it & I AM LIVID!!! Also, s*xual assault & the r word, especially when it’s not treated as a serious issue & just swept under the rug. As someone else said also, when the bottom is head over heels for the top no matter what he does, & in the end the top has no redemption arc or regret for the awful things he did.

So right! I don´t remember a specific tittle but I hate when it´s no clear how the couple that hate each other at the beginning suddenly fall in love so strong. Or so much rape, I get it, is fiction, but no.

1) drama/angst for drama/angst purposes without a reason; 2) idiot/abusive characters who act like that without a reason; 3) dragging plot with no development for a long time; 4) rushed plot, when things happen way to quickly, making me think that the author run out of ideas; 5) tragedy tag and kill-em-all authors, big NO!

Also, I can’t read novels with Zerg as MC’s although I’m fine with them as villains. Don’t know why, though. 🤷‍♀️

I hate when there’s not a good mix of tragedy and happiness. Too much tragedy and it’s like…SEVERELY depressing and draining and affects me really badly. Too much fluff and happiness and I feel like I’m wasting my time haha.

i don’t like novels when it is so obvious that the uke has a stockholm syndrom or something like that. Or when the uke came from another world / time and only think about how to gain money and “oh, incredible, he is able to make money with fruit wine !”. You know this kind of things.

I’m actually the same like Addis. There needs to be a balance, and a rational trigger for the “Oh, I love him!” to start. Also, when the plot tried to not address the Stockholm Syndrome going on. Love is great, but not at the expense of anybody’s mental health.

Honestly? I really hate those with no sense at all. Like, no inside story about certain characters or actions. Imma like, how did it end up like that? Oh! And those where protag is too much OP and lucky. Ugh.

too many plot holes, one sided love, pretending to be cold and causing misunderstandings, being forced/rape, dragging out the relationship when they both clearly like each other

I hate angst but not everything . I like to cry too while reading angst but I don’t like abusive angst which I hate to the core

Haaaa cara !!! Sinceramente não sei depende muito do meu humor na hora em que estou lendo,mas tipo de romance mais insuportável pra mim é aquele em que o top abusa do shou,e o shou ainda volta pra ele🙄🙄🙄🙄

It irritates me when the uke acts like an imbecil. Other people would call this shy and innocent but for me it’s like he doesn’t have a brain. I don’t really like when there is too much drama, you know, like in a Brazilian soap opera, misunderstanding, then another and another, then some amnesia etc. Also when there is too much power difference between the seme and the uke, I like their position and abilities to be more or less balanced.

I found that most of bl story plots were written in the way that the female ( if there were some) always unreasonable and stupid that was the anoying.
