It doesn’t really bother me; however, having said that, obstructive ads and ones that interrupt reading, would annoy the hell out of me – like pop ups.
I don’t use sites where novels are entirely MTL, with no editing, because they make no sense and I find them impossible to read.
Clear translations that are well written, must take a lot of time and patience, and if readers are getting them for free, then ads are possibly the only way to cover costs and get something back.

while for non mtl tranlations sites, i don’t mind even if there’re pop ups. because i’m not rich enough to donate, that way i can support them in another way.
if it’s edited mtl, then why not. at least they work on something to make the book more readable.
if it’s pure mtl with no editing, well… they shouldn’t, in my opinion. for non chinese speakers, mtl makes no sense and hard to read.
Should every sites need financial support if it was yes then why not?

Ads shouldn’t distract you from reading. No pop ups!
