Chapter 15: I will take my faults.

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Just like when Heinrich bit him on the side of the neck, he could have slit the other man’s throat.

But he just cut a section of fabric to bandage Heinrich’s wound.

The scene shut down.

Heinrich remarked, “I investigated Lin Xu’s background information before, he came from the border area and his current ID came from an illegal ID trafficker in the border area.”

Zhou Pingbo nodded, “So it will never be a newborn faction lurking in the Imperial hierarchy, we don’t have to worry about information leaks. But his previous identity…I have no clue, it’s as if he just appeared out of nowhere. Now it seems that it may not be a purebred human, but rather like…”

He looked down closer to the light screen, tapped on the screen once more, and squinted, “Some of the characteristics of the mermaid race, but the mermaid race of Thales is very closed and does not like to communicate with the outside world.”

“Lin Xu also does not like to communicate with people.”

Zhou Pingbo looked at Heinrich’s face, trying to find something on it, but Heinrich just stared at the screen expressionlessly, and Zhou Pingbo smiled as he spoke, “The mermaid race doesn’t have legs, and there are no cases of mermaids and humans combining to have children.”

When human explorers first discovered Thales inhabited by mermaids, they were surprised to learn that such creatures, described in ancient Earth stories, really existed.

But the mermaid race was not interested in outside interaction, their planet had a boundary to block unwelcome outsiders. The mermaids called it a godsend boundary, and human scientists showed that the so-called godsend boundary consisted of a layer of closely spaced electric ions that would cross a huge stream of digital information.

The mermaid race’s level of technology was extremely low, and could even be called primitive. This layer of boundaries was far beyond their ability to manufacture, and could only be presumed to be a fishbowl of protection and safety slapped on for them by another advanced alien civilization.

“Before me, there were no cases of humans and dragons combining to give birth, either.” Heinrich said.

“What exactly are you trying to say?”

Heinrich’s intermittent expressions made Zhou Pingbo detect a hint of abnormality, which was unlike his way of doing things.

Heinrich did not answer immediately, he asked Arnold to leave the room for the time being, leaving Zhou Pingbo behind.

“I smell a sweet fragrance on him.” Heinrich’s expression at this moment was very serious, as if he was stating the military deployment of the enemy alliance, “I feel… the situation is very much like an alpha’s reaction to smelling an omega’s pheromone.”

“…”

“I think the noble omega’s of the capital star will be happy to hear that you are not sexually incompetent.”

“But Lin Xu is a beta,” Heinrich affirmed.

“Ah, then you couldn’t resist his pheromones and bit him.” Zhou Pingbo joked and then got serious again, “There are only three possibilities to attract a human-dragon hybrid alpha, first, he is also a dragon, second, he is an omega disguised as a beta, and third, I have heard of certain cases where the omega was mistakenly tested as a beta due to glandular dysplasia, but could still put out a feeble pheromone. There should be no courtship between the mermaid and dragon races, right?”

Zhou Pingbo’s major field of study was biology and medicine, and he had a deep understanding of extraterrestrials, and was responsible for the development of weapons for Zerg physiology. Mermaid and dragon interstellar races both disliked interaction with other civilizations, and had enough strength to protect themselves. Even though Zhou Pingbo held the most advanced and comprehensive information of Imperial extraterrestrials, at this moment, he could still only speculate.

“I don’t know.”

Heinrich did not know much about the Dragon Planet either; he could not take the form of a dragon, and it would be impossible for him to grow up and live on the Dragon Planet.

“Forget it, none of this matters.” Zhou Pingbo tapped his knee and returned to the original question, never letting Heinrich have the possibility to escape, “Do you like him?”

Heinrich looked at the bloodied dragon scales that had been plucked out, the silvery white scales had a pearl-like texture, and didn’t say anything.

Zhou Pingbo continued, “If there is no idea of developing the relationship further, then I advise you to keep your distance and not be overwhelmed by the physical attraction similar to pheromones.”

He had kept his distance well…

Heinrich waved off the light screen and whispered to Zhou Pingbo to move faster, while sending a message to Arnold, instructing him to get the key to the safe, which he would have to go to later.

Lin Xu rested for two days and hardly left room 003.

The logistician would bring the special nutrition and cat food on time, and Lin Xu learned that the young man’s name was Xu Xing.

He adjusted his work and rest according to the Starfleet schedule, read all the information Heinrich had sent him about the case, opened the suitcase he carried with him, took out the remnants of the ancient scrolls he had left unfinished in the museum office, and continued his work of repairing and recording translations.

Sitting behind his desk, he looked up at a sea of stars, occasionally passing by young sputtering stars, their searing light shining through the four corners, the several escort ships flanking the flagship and the probes on the edges of the ship showing themselves clearly and quietly.

For some reason, Ryan hadn’t come looking for him, and Heinrich and Arnold hadn’t shown up recently. Lin Xu was occasionally puzzled when he thought about it, but didn’t give it much thought, and plunged his thoughts back into his ancient books.

Xu Xing dropped by the next day with trauma medicine and wound gel, and Lin Xu noticed that when they met in the past few days, Xu Xing couldn’t help but look at his neck.

The wound had scabbed over, the redness and stinging had subsided, and the remaining bruise looked scary but hardly hurt at all.

In the evening, Xu Xing came knocking on Lin Xu’s door again, and when he saw the wound on Lin Xu’s neck was still the same, he froze for a moment, then seemed to think of something and said with a smile, “Mr. Lin, the Marshal is in his office, please come over for a chat.”

Lin Xu nodded, didn’t ask why, and followed Xu Xing, who was leading the way, to the Marshal’s office.

The two of them went down the stairs, and on one floor they passed an area filled with testing equipment and technicians and stepped into an elevator, reaching a corridor upwards, looking to the left, which expanded at the end, framing the bridge of the Victoria like a picture frame.

Countless soldiers on the bridge were working intently at their operational or inspection stations, only a tenth of the height of the entire front viewport.

A soldier suddenly glanced down the corridor, and Lin Xu averted his eyes before meeting the line of sight and headed down the right side of the corridor, but the gaze remained with him until Xu Xing led him into Marshal’s office and reported to Heinrich with a salute.

After completing his mission, Xu Xing retreated, the induction door shutting out any stares.

Passing the bridge, a technician secretly pulled him in and asked in a whisper, “Lieutenant Xu, is that the omega that was marked by the Marshal just now?”

“Why do you think so?”

“The smell!!! I didn’t think what Dr. Sally said was true!”

Xu Xing didn’t correct any of the man’s words, just smiled, “Mr. Lin is a beta, and, watch military discipline, don’t poke around.”

The technician was only left with eyes full of shock. Holy shit, the Marshal was really the Marshal, he could even mark a beta!

The office was quiet, all kinds of display equipment neatly arranged, projecting the fleet, magnetic field, star path map and other information.

Heinrich stood behind his desk, his back hand facing the window. A blue planet was rotating rapidly, the surface of the planet reflected the light of the star, and the surrounding body was plated with a light blue halo.

On one side of the desk stood a male alpha in a suit, who nodded slightly to Lin Xu, but for some reason, his expression was a little strange.

Heinrich turned around when Lin Xu’s steps stopped, his face still cold, and he raised his hand to invite Lin Xu to sit in the chair opposite the desk, moving as usual. The wound on his left chest should be mostly healed.

After Lin Xu sat down, the man in the suit also took his seat on one side. Heinrich crossed his arms on the desk and faced the two as if he was speaking at a strategy meeting, “Lin Xu, this is Mr. Metz, part of the Abyss Fleet Legal Department, assisting in resolving legal disputes with citizens on other planets or craft during fleet voyages.”

Lin Xu looked at Heinrich, his reluctance to meet people’s eyes had been alleviated with Heinrich after the angular face had been carefully traced on Blizzard.

After the introduction of his identity, Heinrich’s next words made Lin Xu begin to doubt his ability to understand the Imperial language.

“I would like to apologize to you for what happened on Blizzard, and have also consulted with Metz about the relevant legal provisions. At present, the Abyss Fleet is still under Imperial jurisdiction, and if you want to sue me, I assure you that all judicial procedures will be fairly fulfilled, and I will take the blame for my fault.”

He even used a salutation.

The author has something to say.

Lin Xu: Prosecute? Sue for what? That a bad dog without a leash will bite someone?
