Chapter 3: He smelled the sweet scent of Lin Xu

During the interstellar era, famine was rare in the Marion Empire, and while edible, non-man-made plant and animal products were expensive, the nutrients needed to maintain health were so cheap that it was hard to imagine a malnourished population, at least in the Crescent District.
The salary of a researcher at the Ancient Earth Natural Science Museum was not enough for extravagant spending, but it was enough to maintain a decent life for an intellectual.
Arnold thought for a while and said stiffly, “Maybe Mr. Lin Xu, who loves ancient Earth culture and prefers cooking food to nutrients, had some problems with the meal ration…”
Heinrich did not say anything, Arnold had to continue the conversation himself, “Marshal, I picked up another uniform, do you want to change now?”
The bite from Lin Xu was actually not deep, Heinrich’s body recovered amazingly fast, only a shallow tooth mark remained by now, but the blood soaked on the inner white shirt, slowly oxidizing to rust red.
“… Hmm.”
Heinrich went to the bathroom to change into clean clothes, the changed set was sent to Arnold for cleaning, he sat alone in the chair opposite the hospital bed, suddenly a little disappointed.
He thought about it, and expressionlessly got up and went to the bed, grabbed a rabbit-cat and put it on his lap. The woken Blackie hissed for a while, and then found that he could not break free from the strange human’s big hand, and gave in, lying quietly on Heinrich’s knee, with round green eyes watering.
But apparently the Lord Marshal didn’t care about the eyes of a feline, he was still thinking about the sweet smell of Lin Xu’s body.
Just holding him for a while, that sweet smell stayed on the uniform, and after Arnold sent the uniform to be washed, Heinrich did feel as if he lost something.
Subsequently, Blackie, which had long been smoothed and scented by Lin Xu, fell into the clutches of the Lord Marshal.
The scent on Blackie’s fur was unmistakable, making it all the more intriguing.
Heinrich Chu was a human dragon hybrid alpha, but the entire Empire knew that Marshal Chu could not smell omega pheromones, nor could he feel the dragon estrus hormone, and had been single for so many years, never having a mate around.
In fact, the nobles of the capital star didn’t mind this too much as it was just that he couldn’t smell pheromone, not a loss of function, and even if it really was a loss of function, wasn’t there still artificial genetic breeding technology?
They were more concerned about the power in Heinrich Chu’s hands than the pheromone pairing or the void of love. But the Marshal himself had no intention of looking for his other half.
Until today, when he smelled the sweet scent of Lin Xu…
Heinrich had read about Lin Xu, a purebred beta human, and he had personally confirmed that Lin Xu had no glands, and that this febrile coma was not a symptom of the estrus phase, and that not even Arnold, the doctor, or the nurse smelled the sweet aroma, except for himself. But Heinrich not only smelled it, he also…reacted to it.
Heinrich had enough self-control to keep himself in check, but this was still rude. He thought to himself. But he couldn’t resist the urge to stay a little longer.

Lin Xu hadn’t slept peacefully during a rejection attack in a long time, and when he woke up, he felt the pain in his bones fade into a lazy, unmotivated softness, and he half-opened his eyes and habitually reached out to touch Snowy, who was sleeping on his pillow.
His consciousness was blurred, and it took him a while to realize that this was not his own bedroom after the unfamiliar decor of the bed came into view, so he hugged Snowy and popped up, just in time to meet the eyes of the man sitting across the bed.
Blackie, who had been held down by Heinrich, jumped to Lin Xu’s knee when he woke up and arched back into his master’s arms, his head resting in Lin Xu’s arms, his keen hearing catching his heartbeat accelerating from the shock. Blackie wooed twice and received a tickle on the chin from Lin Xu.
“Mr. Lin Xu.” Heinrich looked at him, Lin Xu’s memory of golden vertical pupils that resembled those of snakes had now changed back to normal human form, the ward was not brightly lit, the golden irises looked like light brown amber, calm and majestic.
A well-cut black military uniform added a point of coldness to him.
Lin Xu averted his eyes and looked soberly at the foot of the bed, unwilling to meet people’s eyes, he pursed his lips and didn’t say anything, only touched the rabbit-cat in his arms.
Heinrich was equally silent, and the flowing air seemed to stand still for a moment.
After a long time, Lin Xu’s memory returned and he slowly spoke, “Hello, Lord Marshal.”
After watching the news for so many days, he did not fail to recognize the uniformed man who always appeared in the recent headlines.
He vaguely remembered that he had attacked Heinrich and bitten him?
The feeling of blood scalding across his throat flashed by, but now that he looked, Heinrich’s uniform was neat and tidy, his white gloves covered his hands, the only exposed skin on his neck was smooth and unscarred, and although his face was serious, he showed no intention of asking for punishment, and even took him to the hospital instead of the police station.
His memory was scrambled again?
“Mn.” Heinrich nodded as a response, and the two of them once again entered into a conversation with no follow-up. It was a good thing that Lin Xu’s awakening information was transferred to the doctor by the medical intelligence, and a doctor in a white coat pushed in and examined Lin Xu, finally ending the awkward silence.
The doctor confirmed the data on the virtual screen one by one, and Lin Xu tilted his head and asked, “Doctor, can I be discharged now?”
The doctor looked at him, pondered for a moment and said, “Your fainting was caused by a high fever, and now that your body temperature has returned to normal, you can be discharged. But I suggest you stay in the hospital for a week for nutritional adjustment.”
“I don’t need it.” Lin Xu knew what his body lacked and that medical treatment was not enough to fix the energy deficit.
“Okay, the nutritional regimen can be done at home, as long as you remember to take your medication regularly and don’t work too hard.”
After the doctor left, a blonde woman came in on her heels and immediately jumped in front of Lin Xu’s bed, asking worriedly, “Little Xu, has your illness returned?”
This was a beautiful, soft-faced, well-dressed omega, and Heinrich forgot to stop her when she barged into the ward.
Lin Xu obviously knew her.
But even so, he was still not used to looking at people, so the blonde lady took Lin Xu’s face directly and said, “You’ve lost weight again.”
“Marianna… What are you doing here?” Lin Xu stiffened like Blackie who was held down by Heinrich earlier.
“I got a message from the medical system, did you forget? I’m the one written in your emergency contact section.”
Lin Xu didn’t know how to talk to Heinrich, and Marianna was so focused on Lin Xu that she didn’t notice the presence of an Imperial Marshal in the ward, and for a while, Heinrich was left hanging.
The odd situation was only broken by the appearance of another male alpha who had followed Marianna into the ward, dressed in a white military uniform, and who had hurriedly pushed his way in through the door, only to see a familiar face that was not supposed to be here, and to freeze for a moment and salute Heinrich in shock.
“Greetings to the Lord Marshal!”
“You are?” Heinrich asked, raising his hand to return the salute.
“Lieutenant Colonel of the Capital Star City Defense Force, Chen Jinshan!” As Heinrich’s gaze turned to the sickbed, Chen Jinshan added, “This is my wife, Marianna, she was Lin Xu’s mentor when he was at Capital Star University, we heard he was sick and came to visit him.”
Chen Jinshan wondered why Heinrich was in Lin Xu’s hospital room. It was logical that the Marshal should be attending a banquet of some grand duke’s family today…
“Hmm.” Heinrich nodded coldly, his golden eyes looking at Lin Xu, who was being forced to listen to Marianna’s rambling care, with a tired and restrained calmness between his brows, “I visited Mr. Lin Xu yesterday, and he fainted at home, so I brought him to the hospital.”
What the author has to say:
Heinrich, a male virtuoso of sorts.
So sweet…no, can’t think about that, it’s just too rude to think about that.
…
So sweet.
