“Xiao Lin? He…”
Arnold saw the curator’s face and continued, “Is Mr. Lin Xu not available?”
“He took two weeks of sick leave yesterday and should be home today. As for the Lord Marshal’s information…” The curator replied with a headache and certainty, “Lin Xu is a bit anti-technology and doesn’t like to use terminals, so he often misses messages, and this time he might have missed it too.”
“Is there something wrong with Mr. Lin Xu’s health?” Arnold asked. The Ancient Earth expedition was to set sail in ten days, escorted by the Abyss Fleet, if Lin Xu is still sick by then…
The curator waved his hand, “It’s not a big problem, but he’s too weak to work for long and needs to go home to recuperate.”
“What about just a simple conversation?”
“It should work.”
“Curator Zhao, can you give me Mr. Lin Xu’s address? We would like to visit him.”
“He stays, he lives,” the curator didn’t know how to describe the address of Lin Xu’s house at once, deliberated and strained to try, “Follow Fourth Avenue out of town, take that one-way road to the northwest, his house is in Cacamorra Plains, keep following the road and you’ll see a white one-story bungalow. He doesn’t like to deal with people and he’s the only person that lives out there.”
When the two of them said goodbye to the curator and flew the craft across the Cacamorra Plains to Lin Xu’s doorstep, they finally understood the true meaning of Curator Zhao’s tangle of “anti-technology” and “not liking to deal with people”.
The entire Cacamorra Plains had only one road deep in it, with no official air routes. It had been raining in Endymion for several days, and the air was so foggy that Arnold had to manually steer his craft down below the mist to see the ruts of the road.
A house of white maple covered with gray-blue tiles stood alone above the empty wilderness, completely incompatible with the interstellar era of architectural materials and styling design, pouncing on the strong ancient earth style.
It did not even have an intelligent paging device, Arnold had to walk down to the porch and knock on the door himself, while Heinrich waited.
There was no light in the room and no one answered the knock.
The rain fell on Heinrich’s ink-black uniform, the special fabric would not be soaked, but the water droplets rolling around still spoiled the clean and crisp texture of the uniform.
Arnold saw the Marshal pursing his lips and sighed, “Marshal, why don’t we come back another time? The owner shouldn’t be here.”
“I don’t have that much time.” Heinrich said. He couldn’t stay in the Crescent District for too long.
The Abyss Fleet under Heinrich Chu’s command was also known as the 7th Patrol Corps. The other six corps had fleets ranging from three to five, each with a fixed station, and only the 7th Corps cruised within the Imperial sector all year round, dealing with roving dangerous elements or serving as a backup reinforcement force and assault force.
There was only one Abyss Fleet under the Seventh Legion, and because of Heinrich’s great success in the war, the interstellar humans gradually referred to Abyss Fleet and Marshal Chu, rather than the Seventh Legion and the head of the Chu army.
The emperor and the nobles were inevitably afraid of the power and prestige in Heinrich’s hands, and rarely let him return to the capital star, and even when he did, the Abyss Fleet had to dock outside the Crescent District.
Heinrich Chu had spent nine-tenths of his life drifting among the stars, being the Imperial’s sharpest spear and hardest shield, hard enough to resist the doubts from humanity itself.
The news of the discovery of the home planet Earth was too important for His Majesty the Emperor and he had summoned Heinrich to return to the capital planet, but he still had to leave as soon as his debriefing was over. There were too many things to deal with in just ten days to spare, only a little to meet a stranger.
“There’s someone in the room.” Heinrich stepped forward and approached the door.
“Yes?” Arnold wondered if there was some more information coming back from the keen senses unique to an S-class alpha that he, an A-class alpha, could not detect.
Heinrich frowned, “Don’t you smell this scent?”
“Huh? What scent?” Arnold subconsciously inhaled his nose, except for the smell of rain and grass, found nothing, he looked around for a while, suddenly from the windowsill to a take-out box, “Is it the smell of roast meat? The takeaway left outside, or… last night’s, and not been taken in all day, Mr. Lin Xu may not have returned.”
No, of course it wasn’t the smell of barbecue…
Heinrich glanced at the cold food in the take-out box, and his tightly furrowed brow didn’t release.
He smelled a… sweet aroma.
Very sweet, so sweet that it made him feel restless.
The smell continued to intensify. What was in the room?
Heinrich took a few steps forward and knocked on the door with increased force.
Bang…
The sound of something heavy hitting the ground suddenly came from the room, followed by a weak, muffled grunt and the frightened scream of an animal wailing.
Arnold instantly turned pale, someone was really there.
Was it Lin Xu? Was he seriously ill?
Heinrich rushed to pull out his light energy gun before Arnold could react, and aimed a shot at the metal door lock.
His long legs kicked open the door panel and rushed into the room, searching through the darkness along the strong sweet smell, when a dark figure suddenly appeared in the corner and pounced on Heinrich.
Heinrich put his knees against the other side and tried to lift this attacker, surprisingly unsuccessful!
An S-class alpha physique and dragon bloodline gave the Lord Marshal strong physical qualities, this was almost the first time in his life that he was pinned down by a human in a bare-handed situation!
The next moment, the increasingly strong sweet fragrance mixed with wet breath approached –
He locked the Marshal’s hand in a reverse choke hold at his shoulder, and buried his head in to bite the Marshal’s neck!
Blood spilled out, the taste of blood instantly filled his mouth, and Lin Xu, who was dazed, instantly woke up. His eyes snapped open and a pair of cold, glassy golden pupils came into view.
Lin Xu’s heart received crisis signals as soon as the string collapsed to the tightest, like a leopard from the ground, the hot blood had slipped down his throat into his stomach…
When he got home yesterday, Lin Xu fell into bed before he even had a chance to eat. The strong reactions made every part of his body feel hot and painful, and he forced himself to sleep, only to fall into a confusing and disorienting dream, sweating incessantly, like a fish that couldn’t jump into the water, but had to soak his dry skin with his own efforts.
Lin Xu didn’t know if the stars had risen and fallen, and he could barely tell time until a loud noise came and he fell out of bed before he finally had some sense of the real world.
As the intruder approached, an intense energy approached, fiercely attacking Lin Xu’s mind. His mind was almost instantly confused, and he lunged to bite the only piece of skin exposed on the intruder’s body.
The blood that rolled over his head instantly cleared his mind and he quickly jumped away, but as the blood went down, an even more intense dizziness hit him and he lost consciousness in a trance.
Arnold raised his light-energy gun at Lin Xu the instant he reacted, a dangerous pale blue glow flashing with the signal to aim and fire, and the next moment the beam of light energy would have penetrated the attacker in front of him, but Heinrich subconsciously caught the fallen man.
“Don’t shoot!”
Heinrich stopped Arnold, but did not let his guard down. His hand choked the back of Lin Xu’s neck and finally released his grip after confirming that the man was truly completely unconscious and had no intention or ability to attack.
He stood up with Lin Xu in his arms, only to find that the youth who had just pinned him down was as light as a cloud, so thin that it felt painful to hold him in his arms.
“Marshal, he…”
“It’s Lin Xu,” replied Heinrich, whose night vision was so good that he recognized the youth the moment Lin Xu buried his head near him, “Turn the lights on.”
Arnold answered and then tried to call on the home intelligence to turn on the lights, to no avail, searched for an inductive light source, to no avail, and took a while to finally fumble around the walls to find the retro push-button switch.
He should have been happy that this anti-technology activist wasn’t using candles for his usual lighting, after all, there was still a primitive fireplace burning in the living room, with the wood burning out and now only a little spark left.
The lights came on, and the unconscious Lin Xu could still feel the sudden light, wrinkling his eyes in discomfort. Arnold finally saw his face and compared it with the information he had read in his memory to make sure he had the right person.
The Lin Xu in the profile picture was pale and thin, and still was, but his illness had cut down on his indifference, and his half-length hair was wet and disheveled, and he was being held by Heinrich’s taller frame, adding a bit of vulnerability.
The black and a white rabbit-cats anxiously circled around their master, calling and purring, and kept tugging at Heinrich’s trouser legs to climb up.
The side of Heinrich’s neck had a bright red blood stain and extraordinarily striking teeth marks.
A man had bitten the Marshal! The Marshal was princess carrying a man?
Arnold was not sure which idea was more frightening for a moment and said, “Marshal, why don’t I take…”
“He has a fever, I’ll take him to the hospital,” Heinrich did not care about a small wound on the side of the neck, but Lin Xu’s body temperature was scary high. Every step, Blackie and Snowy took a step with him, he had to call on Arnold, who was almost petrified, “Grab these two. “
Is the sun beating out of the west? Or did Marshal’s dragon blood finally overpower human sanity?
Marshal Chu, who was a fierce, iron-blooded man, did not kill the attacker on the spot – although the attacker attempted, and still remembered to take his pets with him – Arnold admitted that the two rabbit-cats were so cute that his heart melted.
Even after taking the person to the hospital, Marshal canceled his party arrangements that night and kept gazing at him with deep eyes from his bedside!
Lord Marshal, what are you doing?
Arnold walked into the hospital room with a blank face and handed the electronic medical record to Heinrich. Lin Xu was still sleeping on the hospital bed, his hospital gown was huge on him, and two rabbit-cats were curled up in one corner of the quilt to sleep with him.
Heinrich looked down at the chart, “Inflammation and…malnutrition?”
“The doctor said there was no serious disease,” Arnold explained, recalling the doctor’s words, “The inflammation was probably caused by a cold, and he will recover quickly after taking medication. However, the malnutrition needs to be adjusted slowly, the doctor has prepared special nutritional supplements according to the nutrients that Mr. Lin Xu’s body lacks, and he will take them regularly for the next three months to restore his body functions.”
“Why is he malnourished?” Heinrich looked at the sleeping Lin Xu, remembering that the young man was as light as a feather, and his gaze slowly froze.
“Uh, well…

I agree with Lin Xu though, fireplaces are warm!
