Chapter 43: Blizzard has no lack of pants

Lin Xu’s tone was unruffled, as if he was not at all embarrassed by his current situation. Whether it was last night’s frenzied animalistic instincts that caused the mermaid to go into heat, or this morning waking up naked in the driver’s seat under the front window, surrounded by alpha-rich pheromones.
Heinrich’s combat uniform still bore the work of the mermaid’s sharp claws, and chaos reigned. Lin Xu, however, remained calm like a lake frozen from the edge, a cold mist rising in the faint morning sunlight of the mountains. Heinrich looked at him and pursed his lips.
“Oh, yes.” Heinrich sat down in his own driver’s seat and swiveled over the seat to face Lin Xu, “The mermaid’s physiology should not be analogous to a human second gender.”
“I am human.” Lin Xu suddenly interrupted.
Heinrich kept his gaze on Lin Xu, his golden eyes were complex, his lips opened sluggishly, following Lin Xu’s meaning, “Okay, I know. Last night you…estrus, I smelled something like pheromone.”
If an alpha pointed out to an omega that he was in estrus, and gave away the scent of pheromone, it would be the same as flirting. But Lin Xu was not an omega, he did not care at all, and he did not know if he had noticed Heinrich’s difficult patience from the beginning. But his expression finally changed a little, “Smelled?”
Mermaid…. Lin Xu thought about it, let’s call his state after receiving the deep sea gene transplant a mermaid. Mermaids did have an estrus period. But the estrus phase of mermaids was not subject to the rhythm of time, but rather to the genetic instinct to judge the surrounding environment and decide whether to push the body into the estrus phase. Like animals in the wild, the estrus phase should come at a time when the mermaids needed to feel well-watered, well-fed, warm and safe, which Lin Xu never did.
Or maybe it’s the other way around, where the mermaid was in great danger, where the specter of death loomed over the consciousness, where selfish genes would force the mermaid into estrus, where primitive fear would override reason, and the mermaid would frantically try to pass on its genes, even if the cost was the death of the mother. There was such a time before.
He was surrounded by zombies in a dead city, and his crazy instinct to pass on was triggered by panic, but all around him were zombies, and there was no one to court, so he had to tear the zombies apart for three days and nights, almost emptying the entire city of zombies. His sanity still had not been restored. Finally it was the chief physician with an armed squad that found Lin Xu and remotely shot him three times with a strong anesthetic gun, which managed to bring the man back to the base. But this time it was… recovered quickly.
“Hmm.” Heinrich nodded. Lin Xu frowned slightly and inclined his head to sniff his shoulder, he couldn’t remember what smell the mermaid would give off. Heinrich looked at Lin Xu’s reddened shoulder and twitched his throat, “No one else can smell it.”
Lin Xu stared at Heinrich, making sure that Marshal Chu was being straightforward, that there was nothing else in these provocative words. “… I’m sorry, I don’t know myself, there’s no way to control it. Do I smell… bad?”
Lin Xu was questioning with his gaze, which was not sharp or aggressive at the moment, but Heinrich still felt a slight sting of pinpricks sweeping across his face as the gaze swept over him.
“No, it doesn’t smell bad.” It was a sweetness he’d never tasted before.
“Marshal, turn up the ventilation system, my estrus period is over, the smell will dissipate after a while.”
Heinrich summoned the control light screen in silence, paused his finger before pressing the confirmation button, and after some fidgeting clicked to confirm. The sweetness lingered with him, but restraint and repression were excruciatingly painful, and it might be better to let peace return between the two.
“Lin Xu, why are you on this planet?”
Heinrich did not pursue Lin Xu’s mermaid-related past; he could sense that Lin Xu was very somewhat resistant to it. The most pressing issue facing the two men was this Zerg-filled planet.
“Accident. I was chased into the universe by the Zerg in the Delta sector of the fortress,” Lin Xu opened his five fingers and looked over his palms, the radiation wounds from the previous cosmic rays had healed and now only the reddish sunburn peeling was left, “I couldn’t survive in a vacuum, but… I used some special powers and landed in this place. Where is this, the Zerg’s Ent nebula?”
“No. This is the Abatis Galaxy, the Zerg that attacked the Silver Fortress originated from here, and I led a team to find out why.”
“There are others here?”
Looking out the front viewport, there was only rolling yellow sand and turquoise blue sky, the heat distorting the air into rolling heat waves, the mecha’s cooling system was damaged, and even with the insulation, the temperature was gradually climbing.
“There was another mecha that landed with Blizzard, and I made contact with her three hours ago, and they’re on their way.” Heinrich said, “Blizzard has sent an unmanned reconnaissance aircraft to probe the planet’s condition and confirm the Zerg source. We’ll be back soon.”
“Hmm.” Lin Xu nodded wanly, the heat and dryness making him uncomfortable. Heinrich picked up another glass of water for him, “The AI has self-tested the cooling system, I’ll see if I can fix it.”
He turned to the reserve room to find the toolbox, opened the hatch and went out. Soon, the sound of tinkling and banging came from outside. Lin Xu sat for a moment and straightened up to check the mecha indicators on the console.
The temperature inside the cockpit continued to rise, and Lin Xu began to sweat again. He simply closed the mecha front view window, turned off the interior lights and ventilation, and got up with his clothes on to open the hatch.
Lin Xu stood in the circle of light, his foggy gray eyes instantly illuminated by the blazing sun.
Heinrich hung himself on the outer wall of the mecha with a safety rope, one of Blizzard’s palms held up beside him, used as a platform for tools.
The cooling system casing was removed and Heinrich, holding a heavy wrench, looked up at the sudden appearance of Lin Xu. The color of Lin Xu’s eyes was so light that the iris looked like it had no edge, as if it was going to halo into the whites of his eyes when the light hit it.
“What’s wrong?” Heinrich asked.
Lin Xu sat down against the hatch, “Creating a breeze, it’s hot in there.”
But it wasn’t much better outside. Heinrich pulled up his sleeves to reveal his sturdy arms, sweat sticking to the dust in the air, and his handsome, distinguished face was covered in dust, his lips dry and cracked and bleeding.
Space combat troops spend most of their time in the cockpit of a starship or vehicle, where the outside world rages with gunfire, but they remain immaculate. Heinrich, in particular, rarely even saw a crease in his pitch-black uniform, not to mention the grimy work of screwing and welding as he is doing now. But beneath the sand and dust, there was a hormonal aura revealed.
Lin Xu remembered everything from last night, the fear, the lust, the madness all replayed in his mind with the memories. He could calmly accept the primitive instincts that followed him and were discarded by civilization. But Heinrich…
No matter how many words related to killing and cold-bloodedness were used to describe Heinrich Chu, he was ultimately a creature of the civilized world, calm, decisive and self-controlled.
Although Lin Xu still donned the facade of civilization, the animalistic instinct of mermaid ferocity still haunted Lin Xu’s consciousness, and there were a few thoughts that flashed through his mind for a moment – trapping his target with violence.
But Heinrich was resistant. Civilized people should back off at this point. Lin Xu tried backing away, and now could see that it was useless. He asked, “Is there enough mecha energy left?”
Heinrich finished unscrewing the screws in his hands in silence and replied, “Enough for the return trip.”
“You still have to find the Zerg source.” Blizzard had a few more battles ahead of her, I’m afraid.
“Hmm. There are two mecha returning to the Silver Fortress before landing to report on the status of the planet, and they will bring reinforcements.”
Heinrich began to overhaul the circuitry, “Don’t worry, I’ll take you back. I’m going to solder the circuitry, the light is blinding, don’t look.”
Lin Xu closed his eyes and leaned back against the hatch, not asking any more questions, his ears filled with the whistling wind and the stabbing sound of welding.
The planet contained what appeared to be the Zerg’s lair, which was sending a steady stream of new Zerg, and if Blizzard continued to investigate, it would be difficult to get out safely; the journey back to the Silver Fortress was also filled with Zerg armies, and the battle was inescapable. They could only wait to clear the Zerg reinforcements.
After a moment of silence between the two, a humming sound came through the air, and Lin Xu opened his eyes as the mid-air craft swooped down to the ground with light blue flames burning at its tail. Here it comes.
The flying object’s height quickly decreased, revealing the mecha’s slender silhouette, and the next moment, the same scarred mecha fell heavily, raising the dust to bury Heinrich. The other man jumped out of the cockpit and trotted over to Blizzard, saluting Heinrich in full voice,
“Abyss Fleet mecha Division, Captain Cassandra reporting to Marshal!”
When the smoke cleared, Heinrich wiped his dusty eyes and saluted back to her, “Roger, Captain Cassandra.”
But after the view cleared, Cassandra’s attention was not on her superior Heinrich, she looked at the man sitting in the doorway of Blizzard’s cockpit with her mouth half open, dumbfounded. The other person was draped in Heinrich’s military jacket, barely covering his thin body, his pale calves still exposed, his long hair disheveled, his face with reddened scars, his eyes lost.
Then she looked at Heinrich, although now soiled, the scratches on his combat uniform were still evident. Cassandra was so shocked that the words all stuck in her throat. She had caught a few glimpses of Lin Xu at the Victoria’s restaurant and quickly recognized him, but… What did the identity of an ancient Earth expert have to do with Dr. Lin appearing naked on Heinrich’s combat mecha?!
No. Didn’t they say Dr. Lin was missing before the voyage… How did he end up on Marshal’s mecha? And, Marshal, why did you take his clothes off? She took a step further, but was almost scared to death by the S-Class alpha pheromone coming out of the cockpit.
Lin Xu squinted his eyes and blocked the sand with his eyelashes, and the grainy feeling in his throat made him cough, and his hoarse voice fell on Cassandra’s ears as evidence of Heinrich’s bestiality. Marshal Chu’s glorious image in Cassandra’s mind was about to collapse.
Lin Xu’s body still seemed to have bruises, and Cassandra thought angrily: doesn’t Marshal Chu know how to be gentle? The image of our alpha is being tarnished by such people! So why is Dr. Lin here?
Heinrich noticed Cassandra’s inquisitive gaze on Lin Xu and cleared his throat, “Cassandra, go back to your mecha first, I’ll be right over.”
Heinrich climbed back down the safety line to the cockpit, Lin Xu gave him access, but he patted Lin Xu on the shoulder and motioned for him to come in with him.
“Let’s get you a suit.” Heinrich fished out a white combat suit from the reserve room and gave it to Lin Xu, “The cooling system is fixed, you turn on the cold air and stay in the cockpit for a while, I’ll be back soon.”
Lin Xu carried the suit and watched as Heinrich opened the hatch, jumped down sharply, and followed the gangway into the cockpit of another mecha. The AI automatically closed the hatch and turned on the lights.
The cold air made Lin Xu shiver a little, but soon became comfortable. Heinrich’s combat suit was about the same length, just a little loose, and he changed into it and glanced at the reserve bin, which contained several types of clothing that could be replaced for different battlefield conditions.
He glanced again at the black uniform jacket that had been placed back in the driver’s seat and raised an eyebrow. There was no shortage of pants on Blizzard. What had Heinrich been thinking before?
–
Mecha LK809.
As Heinrich entered the cockpit, the alpha mecha division saluted him again. Cassandra began to report, “I landed in the desert three thousand kilometers away and came this way after I received your communication.”
“Did you encounter any Zerg?”
“Marshal, I detected a magnetic anomaly on the way, and the remote monitoring data calculated it to be a black hole.”
“A black hole?” Heinrich said, “It’s a normal small mass planet with no conditions to produce a black hole.”
“Yes. I was also surprised and went around to monitor again, but the black hole was directionally too much for me to go deeper, and the second wave of data calculations I got showed – still a black hole.”
The comm channel suddenly showed that Blizzard was calling LK809, and Cassandra pressed connect. The electromagnetic waves carried Lin Xu’s hoarse, icy voice, “Marshal, urgent message back from the unmanned reconnaissance markers, they have detected two small shaped black holes.”
