Chapter 54: Don’t smell of others

Lin Xu slept longer than usual, waking up to find the sheets and clothes had all been replaced with new ones, and the uniforms he had smuggled in from Heinrich’s closet had been folded into squares and placed along the edge of the bed, giving Lin Xu more room to sleep.
Lin Xu buried his head in the uniforms and rolled them around again, arranging them in a messy but organized circle. After reassembling his nest, he got up from the bed and went to wash up.
Lin Xu’s legs were still trembling when he stepped on the floor. He stood for a while holding onto the wall and waited for the trembling to pass before slowly walking to the bathroom to wash up and get dressed.
Lin Xu’s cheeks in the mirror were still red with sleep, and the water was even colder when it hit his face. As his consciousness returned, he was still thinking about what happened last night.
Why wouldn’t Heinrich touch him? Lin Xu meant in person, not just with his hands. What, was it that he hadn’t been able to accept the mermaid form yet?
Lin Xu looked up as he cleaned his teeth and mouth, his foggy eyes sinking slightly as he reflected in the mirror.
But Heinrich’s fingers were long, not exactly slender, with calluses on the palm and fingertips and joints from years of holding guns, and often wrapped in white gloves that were dry and warm.
The tiger’s mouth would be stuck on the outside, the direction of the finger pressing upward against the scales, and he would observe Lin Xu’s expression and the rise and fall of his muscles, adjusting the bend of the joint like a master.
When the boat was near capsizing under the cover of a big wave, he held Lin Xu’s back tightly, without any intention to stop. The storm and the waves overwhelmed Lin Xu, almost suffocating him in the moment.
Lin Xu could not say against his will that he did not like these hands. After washing up, he coughed and drank a tube of nutrients and went to find Zhou Pingbo.
Zhou Pingbo seemed to be in the lab 24 hours a day, and he could be found here at any time. When Lin Xu arrived, Zhou Pingbo had just downed a can of caffeine drink, and when he saw Lin Xu enter, he found a reason to send some assistants out.
“Professor Zhou has been busy lately?” Lin Xu lay down for an ultrasound imaging test.
“A little busier than before.” Zhou Pingbo was used to this kind of work intensity and said with little concern, “After the cleanup of the Nature’s Evolution, I called my assistants over and together we examined the Zerg samples collected at the fortress to see if we could confirm which group this wave of Zerg belonged to. It’s not a difficult job, I’m more worried about your health.”
As the ultrasound imager mapped out the shape of the egg, Zhou Pingbo took another look at Lin Xu’s blood test report and turned to deploy the injectable nutrients.
“You are continuing to weaken, even the injectable nutrients are of little use… How do you feel about yourself?”
“I know my condition.”
Zhou Pingbo raised his eyes to look at him and found that Lin Xu looked indifferent and did not seem to be worried, so he could only tentatively trust Lin Xu’s own judgment.
The modified body needed energy, and the vitamins in the nutrient were not enough to meet Lin Xu’s needs. The egg in his stomach also needed energy, and it had no way to absorb it from the outside world itself, but had to draw energy from the mother, and Lin Xu had recently had to chew on more crystals to fill the gap.
“Ugh, okay. Heinrich came to me earlier, and I told him to be gentle, and that he should also talk to you, you are after all… You are pregnant, and Heinrich is not the cold personality rumored, if you refuse, he will stop.”
Zhou Pingbo was so worried.
Lin Xu looked at the top of Zhou Pingbo’s bald head as he lowered his head to give him the injection, and thought deeply. No, he wished Heinrich had been rougher, that the mermaid’s tail that could be used as a weapon wasn’t so fragile.
But Zhou Pingbo only said one thing and then changed the subject, “Ryan is back from the Elam Fleet, I heard he wants to see you. Go see him sometime, then walk around the ship, move your body, and let Ruth play music for you. Although this egg you are carrying is not… not fertilized. Probably can’t hatch anything, but don’t keep it bottled up, go relax, the fleet is calm and safe these days.”
After the inspection, Lin Xu asked Ruth, and she said that Heinrich was on the bridge confirming the gravitational field condition of the Abatis Galaxy with a technician, so he didn’t go to him and sent a communication to Ryan first.
Ryan replied immediately and asked Lin Xu to meet him at Ninth Canteen. It was not mealtime, so Ryan ordered a bunch of cakes and tea and filled the table. Lin Xu’s regurgitation had subsided a bit after the medication, but it was still not a relief.
Ryan was eating his way through the cake, telling Lin Xu about his stereotypical, controlling father General, and lamenting the fact that he had finally been let back in! This is a miracle on earth!
Lin Xu looked at his rich expression and told himself that he should have thought that there was nothing important going on here with Ryan, he just had an overwhelming desire to talk and needed someone who wouldn’t get tired of interrupting him.
Lin Xu propped his head up against the couch, and when Ryan stopped for a drink of water, he suddenly asked, “Whose points did you swipe?”
As soon as Lin Xu’s words left his mouth, Ryan suddenly looked at the entrance of the restaurant, jumped up and waved at the door with shining eyes, “Ika, what are you doing here?”
“I got a record of my order, and it was more than you usually spend, so I thought it might be Dr. Lin.” Ika nodded at Lin Xu. It turned out to be Ika’s points.
Ika was clutching a few books in his hand, and as soon as he noticed Lin Xu’s gaze falling over, he handed out all the paperbacks in his hand to learn more.
“For me?”
“Mn, Mr. Godric asked me to pass them on to you, saying that if the journey is boring, you can read them.”
Lin Xu took the book and flipped through the cover and title page, Ryan pulled his neck to look into his hand as well, “2984, by Antolo Blake… A novel of the Old World Poets?”
Lin Xu replied, “The word is pronounced Anthony… You’ve played until you’ve forgotten everything you know.”
The Old World Poets were a thriving literary genre five centuries ago, depicting the development of an imaginary ancient Earth civilization that would have been possible if humans had not fled their homes due to the plight of the Imperium, but with the expansion and glory of the Imperium, humans no longer imagined a possible future for the ancient Earth civilization, and their blood and passion were betrayed into the present.
Lin Xu flipped through the book, the slim pages were slightly yellowed, “Is this the original edition?”
“Maybe. I don’t know.” As Ika answered, Ryan invited him to sit down attentively.
“Please, say thank you to Mr. Godric for me.” Lin Xu looked at Ryan, whose eyes were glowing because of Ika’s arrival, and picked out the thickest book from the pile and handed it to him, “There are remnants of ancient Earth grammar in the wording of the Old World Poets school, this is your translation assignment. Translate three thousand words a day and turn it in every other day.”
Ryan turned to look at Lin Xu in horror, and grabbed Lin Xu’s hand, almost crying in pain, “Professor Lin, Professor Lin, please do me a favor. You are the best teacher under the sky, I really look up to you and respect you especially, please, take pity on me…”
When Ryan’s hand was hit, he shivered and withdrew his hand. Ika immediately caught the paper book and did not let it drop, and Ryan was about to beg Lin Xu for forgiveness, when he opened his eyes and Heinrich’s cold brow and lips were reflected in his eyes.
Heinrich had a glove in his hand, which he had just used to make a red mark on the back of Ryan’s hand, and was now looking down on the other alpha, coldly. Ryan almost slipped off the couch, “M, Marshal…”
Lin Xu borrowed Heinrich’s authority to ask, “Turn in your homework?”
“Turn it in, I will turn it in!”
After Lin Xu and Heinrich left together, Ryan desperately clutched his heavy booklet and looked at the sky, “Ika, I’m in so much pain, you’re the only one in the whole boat who loves me.”
Ika looked at him and found that Ryan had no expression of extreme pain on his face although he had instantly turned into a salted fish lying flat, and corrected, “You’re not in pain, and I don’t love you.”
Ryan was confused, he turned his head sharply, found Ika said this incredibly seriously, “but, but, my father said…”
“Said what?”
Said for him to ask Ika to marry him. When General Kalt said this, Ryan immediately jumped up to defend himself, “I’m not, I’m not, we’re innocent, this can’t be!”
But Ika’s words now dumbfounded him, and Ryan seriously went to look at his expression and broke down to realize that Ika never lies.
“No, it’s nothing. What I just said was a literary hyperbole, you don’t have to define it precisely.”
“Oh, okay.”
—
Heinrich told Lin Xu that he had heard Ruth say that Lin Xu had gone to Ninth Canteen and had come over to take a look, nothing really pressing. By the time he said this, the two had left the C Block quite a ways back and Lin Xu wasn’t going back.
Heinrich took off his other glove on the way, pulled another handkerchief out of his pocket, and pulled Lin Xu’s right hand over his. His face was serious as he wiped over each knuckle.
” What are you doing?” Lin Xu asked.
“It smells, wipe it clean.”
It took Lin Xu a moment to figure out what Heinrich was talking about, but in the meantime, Heinrich had wiped each of Lin Xu’s fingers clean and tossed the handkerchief into the shredding bin along the hallway. Heinrich minded that Lin Xu’s hands smelled like another alpha.
Ryan’s pheromone was chocolatey, which he always controlled well, and today, with the table full of desserts, Lin Xu’s hand had only made contact with his, and he didn’t expect Heinrich to be able to smell it.
After wiping away the smell of another alpha, Heinrich continued to hold Lin Xu’s hand and examine it, as if to see how this pale, thin hand was agitated to grow long, sharp nails.
He pinched Lin Xu’s fingernails, and the thin layer of skin under the fingertips quickly flushed red. Lin Xu’s entire arm tingled, and as soon as he saw Heinrich’s hand, he remembered what happened last night. Now, Heinrich was putting his fingers between Lin Xu’s fingers, holding them apart a little bit, scraping the hard calluses across the skin where the tips of the two fingers joined.
Just such a movement made Lin Xu’s back half crisp, but that didn’t seem to be the original purpose of the culprit himself. Heinrich’s gaze was cold and focused, like an old knight cleaning his most beloved sharp sword.
Heinrich’s hands were deft and strong as he explored the fishtail – but that was no excuse, it wasn’t like he couldn’t, what kind of man would use his hands alone… Thinking of this, Lin Xu drew his hand back at once.
“You have business to attend to, you don’t have to follow me all the time.”
Heinrich looked at Lin Xu blankly, not knowing what he had done to upset him. Did Lin Xu think he was too clingy?
–
Over the next few days, Heinrich barely saw Lin Xu. When he knocked on his door, he always seemed to be resting, and Lin Xu’s visits to Zhou Pingbo seemed to be timed to avoid Heinrich. Heinrich couldn’t understand what had happened. Had he gone too far that night and hurt Lin Xu?
He remembered the first time he squeezed in his third finger, Lin Xu whimpered and bit Heinrich’s shoulder, and Heinrich was so scared that he withdrew his hand and found a few strands of blood wrapped around his fingertips.
But again, Lin Xu pulled at Heinrich’s hand and wouldn’t let him go. Once again, he got used to it and it didn’t hurt, and Lin Xu lightly shuddered and rubbed his cheek against Heinrich’s jaw.
As more water stains flowed from between the scales, the bit of blood washed out during the back and forth. It took Heinrich a moment to vaguely understand that this was a minor hindrance for the first time, and it did hurt.
The uniforms and regular clothes in the closet were still inexplicably missing in the last few days, but Lin Xu was so invisible that Heinrich often only caught a glimpse of him.
The officers discussing military affairs with Heinrich felt that the Lord Marshal’s air pressure was getting lower and lower these days, as if the glacier was about to collapse and the raging waves were churning at the bottom of the dark and heavy sea.
After a meeting, several young officers were following Heinrich and continuing to brief him on the personnel movements of the Nature’s Evolution and the two fleets.
“Marshal Chu, here are the energy consumption statistics of the incoming and outgoing ships.” A school officer handed Heinrich a long list of tables and another officer followed him, “Logistics and Technology are working on a plan to turn on the solar sails while passing through the stars of the Abatis Galaxy and would like Marshal Chu’s approval.”
“Get the final plans to me as soon as possible.” Heinrich walked toward his office as the boots of the officers hit the ground with a resounding thud. Heinrich walked ahead and pushed open the door to his office.
Suddenly, a section of black fishtail came into view, and a familiar human saw Heinrich’s face and the voice called out softly. Heinrich immediately pulled the door, which had just opened a crack, closed.
A thud startled the crowd, but even the most sharp-eyed one saw only a blur of metallic sheen crossing his eyes and wondered why Marshal had suddenly become irritated. The officers discreetly shut up and lowered their heads to avoid looking Heinrich in the face.
After a long time, they saw Marshal clench his fist and say, “Too many people, let’s talk in the conference room.”
The office was actually big enough, but now there was a beautiful mermaid inside, curling his tail and calling out to him, “Marshal Chu…” Heinrich finally understood why Lin Xu had to call him Marshal Chu with his last name and title when he was in heat. Because it was exciting.
What the author has to say.
Don’t rush! Let him do it when he’s done! After the first line of the second line of the kind! And Dragon’s tail, when the line after the double cultivation method will be arranged on to the earth is almost spring. I have studied a lot of snakes, serpents, fish, and dolphins in many educational films! I can do this!
