Chapter 47: High Priest is a dog when it comes to relationshipsĀ

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Zhou Yan was so busy and efficient, as well as focused, that by 3 or 4 P.M., when his stomach was rumbling with hunger, he suddenly realized that he hadn’t seen Luo Futu for a long time. Usually he always stayed around him without disturbing his work, but he also stayed in a place where he could be seen at a glance. Since he was his bodyguard, if he were too far away, in case an alpha wanted to plot against him, it would be too late to save him.

It was surprising that he hadn’t seen much of him this morning, could it be that he was really concentrating on the employee handbook?

“Worker Zhou, do you think it’s okay to do it like this?”Ā

Li Qing’s voice interrupted Zhou Yan’s thoughts, and he returned to his senses to take a glance at the drawings for the parts, “Yes, it’s late, let’s have everyone eat dinner first.”

Li Qing smiled and nodded, “Okay, Worker Zhou hasn’t eaten either, how do you plan to have lunch?”

Here Zhou Yan also hesitated as he did not consider this matter at all, “I will join you.”

Zhou Yan had just finished speaking when a voice suddenly interrupted him, “That’s not appropriate.”

Zhou Yan looked up and saw Gabriel standing in front of him, carrying a lunch basket in his hand. Zhou Yan didn’t know when he came over. When Gabriel saw that Zhou Yan noticed him, he said, “The kitchen is closed at this time, it will take a long time to restart the stove. I want to have afternoon tea, so you can eat with me. Let’s eat together.”

Zhou Yan didn’t agree to Gabriel’s proposal right away – he seemed a bit upset when he kicked Luo Futu out in the morning, and they didn’t eat together at noon, so Zhou Yan was still thinking about whether to go find him.

Gabriel was a little upset when he saw Zhou Yan not agreeing, and raised his chin arrogantly, “What, you still don’t like me?”

Zhou Yan hesitated for a moment and immediately said, “No way.”

–This was the biggest shareholder of their cooperation, even the mining plant was owned by this guy, so why be upset with him on such matters? According to Zhou Yan’s observation, Gabriel was mostly childish and good-natured, so he couldn’t be offended by a meal.

“Then let’s eat together.”

— As for Luo Futu…. He said that he was mystic and didn’t need to eat, so it’s better to leave him alone for now. Zhou Yan found a flat place to sit down, and Gabriel sat next to him. Zhou Yan wanted to pull Li Qing to join them, but when he turned his head, Li Qing was gone, leaving only Gabriel to eat with him. Gabriel took out an entire set of exquisite gold-rimmed porcelain teaware from the basket. When Zhou Yan saw it, although he maintained his expressionless face, he couldn’t help but silently sigh in his heart that this decadent bourgeoisie, with such low social productivity, such beautiful cups should be very expensive.

“But how come you have time to come over here? I thought you didn’t like mining factories.”

Gabriel picked up the teapot and poured Zhou Yan a cup of black tea while humming softly, “I am at least the owner of this mine, if you can stare at it all day, naturally I can too.”

The first reaction people had toward Gabriel was that he was a thug and a fop, but in fact he was not badly cultivated and knew something about refinement. Zhou Yan looked at him pouring tea and thought of Luo Futu, who was a High Priest and should have a heavier aristocratic temperament than Gabriel, but he had never been sophisticated in front of him. Next time, he would ask him what it was like to be polite.

“Moreover, I heard that some time ago, someone caused trouble and disturbed you? The next time you encounter such things, do not give me face, and expel them.”

–Gabriel had been watching Zhou Yan for a long time, almost the entire time, but now he said “I heard” on purpose, trying to hide his own minor thoughts which he couldn’t hide properly.

Zhou Yan thought for a moment before he realized that he was talking about Chen Qian and Sun Tian. He subconsciously frowned, “Chen Qian and Sun Tian’s conflict has been resolved, these are small things. It is inevitable for conflicts to arise. So I won’t just throw them out. And in the follow-up work, these two people cooperated quite well, they are both very good at forging, and their work efficiency is very high. You should not make any strange decisions.”

Gabriel bristled, “I didn’t do anything to them, look how scared you are.”

Zhou Yan slowly relaxed his frown. Gabriel handed a cup of tea to Zhou Yan, puzzled, “But I still don’t understand, why do you have to be so nice to these people? It’s really troublesome. They are just ordinary miners, the last thing we need now is these people.”

If Gabriel was on Dense Cloud Planet and said such things in front of Zhou Yan, he would have been sentenced to death directly on the path of collaborators, but fortunately he was a native of the Zedoary Continent, and although his ideological awareness was low, Zhou Yan was still tolerant of him. He finally picked up the cup of black tea that Gabriel poured to him and took a sip. The fragrant aroma of tea instantly filled his entire mouth, refreshing his heart, as it was the taste of money on the tip of his tongue.

Zhou Yan deliberated for a moment and said, “If I remember correctly, you want to be a hero, right?”

Gabriel looked at him suspiciously, but thought of the awkward things that happened when he first met Zhou Yan. He felt a little upset, “That incident was an accident, I also did not know that I did not kill the beast, why do you hold on to this matter?”

Zhou Yan lost his smile, “I’m not trying to criticize you for lying, I just want to ask you, do you want to be a hero?”

Gabriel looked at him suspiciously, “Yes, so what?”

“What kind of hero in the world would treat the common masses the way you do?”

Gabriel gave him a surprised look, “What does being a hero have to do with how I treat them?”

Zhou Yan sighed inwardly, “Then why do you want to be a hero? And what do you see in a hero?”

Gabriel blurted out, “Naturally, to be admired by millions of people, to be called upon, to have unlimited scenery.”

Zhou Yan was not surprised that he would say such an answer, which was in line with the reverie of all teenagers who did not know anything about “heroes”. Zhou Yan smiled at him, “But what you said, you already have it now.”

Gabriel froze for a moment, “What do you mean?”

“Look, you are the owner of the iron ore factory, you can decide at will whether a miner stays or goes; you’re feared by the people under your command; you can call on anyone of them; you are also the richest person here; you have a status that others can not expect; your food and clothing is envied; isn’t this also considered a great deal? Why do you want to be a hero?”

Gabriel was a bit stunned when he heard this, but he felt that he couldn’t argue with what Zhou Yan said. However, he didn’t think he was right. He was silent for half a day before saying, “They are afraid of me because of the wealth in my hands, but that’s not what I want…. This is my father’s stuff, and I don’t want them to fear me because of my father.”

Zhou Yan gave him a surprised look, “So you understand.”

Gabriel watched him frown before he grabbed a cookie from the plate and took a bite, but looked as if he didn’t know what to eat, “Of course I understand, in fact, after leaving my father, I have nothing. But I don’t want that, I want to make my own career too.”

Gabriel really meant what he said, and he didn’t shy away from letting others know that he had agreed to sign a contract with Zhou Yan partly because he was afraid Luo Futu would reveal that he had misused the Lurian’s body to promote his secret, and partly because he was attracted by what Zhou Yan and Luo Futu were doing. He really wanted to see what they were up to.

Zhou Yan smiled a little at that, “So you chose to become a hero?”

Gabriel looked at him and nodded his head vigorously, “From my observation, being a hero is the easiest of all things with less effort and high reward, so I want to become a hero.”

“I see that you are a businessman.”

Zhou Yan interrupted his fantasy, “What makes you think it’s easy to be a hero? Who told you that?”

Gabriel said rightfully, “Do I need to be told? I saw this when I was a child. I once met a strong man who killed a beast and carried it through the streets, everyone cheered and applauded him who became a hero, right? I used to think it was great because I was young, and now I am mystic, so killing a beast is not easy with hardly any chance. But now, although there are no more fierce beasts, there are magical beasts, and as long as I can kill a Lurian as you said, I can surely become a hero and be admired by all the people.”

Zhou Yan listened and looked at him in silence for a long time, not knowing how to break his simple heroic dream. To say that Gabriel was naive because his view of heroes was too simple and crude, and to say that he was fishing for fame because his starting point was so naive and pure that it made people laugh.

It was really a sticky situation.

Zhou Yan sighed deeply, “I don’t know how to explain to you…. This is actually the most difficult thing to do. The hearts of the people are unpredictable. In fact, ordinary people have high expectations of heroes and if you do a great thing, you will get everyone’s admiration, so they begin to expect you to always be great, always protect them, and once you can not meet their expectations, the results will be very miserable.”

Gabriel listened intently and subconsciously asked, “How miserable?”

“Forgotten is the best end. If it is a little more serious, the admiration of millions of people will turn into scorn from millions of people. For heroes, mediocrity is the original sin.”

Gabriel was confident, “Then why don’t I just keep on being mediocre? Now that the news of the beast has spread all over the world, is there any fear that I won’t be given the chance to be a hero?”

–He wanted to go to the places where the government had announced that there were beasts, but his father didn’t agree, and Zhou Yan said that the purpose of the mecha was to kill beasts, and he was willing to follow him for a while.

“….” Zhou Yan was silent for a while, “Forget it…. You haven’t experienced it, and you can’t understand it. The most important thing for you to understand now is, do you really want to be a hero? Are you really willing to defend the interests of these ordinary people with your life? You obviously despise them, how can you be willing to fight for them?”

Gabriel tilted his head slightly, a thoughtful expression on his face, “I hadn’t thought about that, maybe I should think about it.”

Zhou Yan couldn’t help but laugh a little, “Then you take your time to think about it, I’ll go back first.”

Gabriel did not react as he was still thinking about his heroic dream. Zhou Yan shook his head and got up to leave – this kid is not bad, he just has childish ideas. Now he was willing to think about it, so it was a good thing.

When Zhou Yan returned to the room, Luo Futu was using one hand to prop up his head to write something. The light was dim against his expressionless face as if he were carved as a white jade general. Zhou Yan inadvertently glanced at the corner, surprised to see Mu Lian squatting there with two bloody spots under her nose, as if she had just been beaten. Zhou Yan did not make a sound as he still didn’t know what kind of conflict had occurred between this master and servant. Only from appearances, it seemed that Luo Futu had beaten her….

–The two of them seemed to have signed some kind of contract, and Mu Lian was under a god-like existence. Zhou Yan didn’t know if it’s because he really couldn’t feel the improper relationship between the two of them, or if he didn’t care at all. In any case… Zhou Yan had now completely adapted to Mu Lian’s existence.

However, why did Luo Futu hit her again?

Zhou Yan didn’t say anything, and quietly walked to his side before he looked down to Luo Futu’s paper, only to see him pressing a half-written staff manual under his hand. Zhou Yan thought he guessed a few points – perhaps because this manual made him too anxious, he took out his anger on his staff?

He himself used to get cranky when he couldn’t get results when working on a problem, so Zhou Yan could still understand Luo Futu. He gently sat next to Luo Futu and said softly, “What? Have you encountered a problem?”

Just as Zhou Yan finished speaking, Luo Futu heard a female voice in his consciousness shouting, “High Priest! High Priest!

–Shut up! Luo Futu yelled in the sea of consciousness. Mu Lian’s voice immediately disappeared, then he raised his head and looked at Zhou Yan coldly, “It’s okay, this is not difficult for me.”

–Luo Futu had been in this position for a long time before Zhou Yan entered the door, and he had been waiting for Zhou Yan to come in to show him this good show. The reason was that he sent Mu Lian to find out what Zhou Yan was doing, and the news he got was either he was working or he was giving Gabriel, that stinky kid, a lecture on life.

“Didn’t you say that Zhou Yan would find out once I changed my previous enthusiastic attitude? He’s off to find someone else now.” Luo Futu was so angry that his entire aura swelled twice, and when he stood in front of Mu Lian like that expressionlessly, the latter thought she was going to die. She stammered for half a day, unable to speak. Luo Futu’s eyes turned green, his black hair floating in the air with teeth and claws, “Two minutes. If he does not come to me again, you know what will happen to you. “

Mu Lian cried, holding her heart, “High Priest, don’t be anxious…. Maybe he’s extra calm? Love is a game, you compromise first and you lose.”

— Not to mention that by now Zhou Yan had not found him, maybe he did not even realize he was being given the cold treatment from the High Priest.

Of course, all kinds of words went through Mu Lian’s head that she was afraid to say out loud. She was afraid Luo Futu would kill her on the spot.

“Oh? If it’s Gabriel, that stinky cucumber in the corner, how do you plan to compensate me?”

Mu Lian shivered until her lips trembled and squirmed, “According to your servant’s experience, this should not happen…. Besides, you have marked him, so he will not run away.”

Luo Futu’s face darkened when he heard this, and Mu Lian said in shock, “He’s not marked yet?

“….” He wanted to, but Zhou Yan did not agree. He was afraid that if he came on too strong, Zhou Yan would blacklist him and then the two of them would inevitably enter another ghostly ending. Either he would break Zhou Yan in the end and lock him up, or Zhou Yan would completely run away, no matter what possibility, it was a fishy death situation.

Luo Futu did not want to become like this.

Mu Lian was simply shocked as she didn’t expect Luo Futu to be so… indecisive.

“High Priest, if you wait a little longer, you should have confidence in your own charm, ah. And your servant sees that Zhou Yan is not uninterested in you, he just lacks the sense of crisis ~”

–Fuck the sense of crisis, now it’s you who has the sense of crisis!

Of course, all this was something Zhou Yan was unaware of. Luo Futu being extra cold made him only think that he was bothered by the staff handbook. This was, after all, work done to help them, and he was also fierce with him this morning. Zhou Yan then came over to see, “If you encounter problems, talk to me, I’ll see if I can help.”

Mu Lian was relieved to see this, and secretly said to Luo Futu in his sea of knowledge, “High Priest, you see, it’s working.”

Luo Futu snorted coldly, “Get lost.”

Mu Lian then disappeared in the same place with a “sah”.

Luo Futu looked at Zhou Yan, who seemed to have made a 180 degree turn towards him, and began to mutter in his heart, “Could this really work?ā€ He could not say, but to say that there was no effect at all was certainly not appropriate, perhaps he really should be relaxed, so as to make Zhou Yan realize his importance on his own.

In the face of Zhou Yan’s warmth, Luo Futu only looked at him indifferently, “It’s okay, if I can’t handle this little thing, how can I work with you?”

Zhou Yan stared at his face for a while and smiled slightly, “Okay, then I’m relieved.”

–He did not fail to notice Luo Futu’s detachment from him, but Zhou Yan attributed it to the fact that he was too busy at work and that he was too tired. Sometimes he was too tired to talk, and he did not allow anyone to have a little temper.

Luo Futu had not noticed the difference so far, and he did not feel Zhou Yan’s enthusiasm, nor did he feel uncomfortable. He had now begun to doubt whether Mu Lian’s method was useful.

“By the way I haven’t eaten yet, do you want to join me?” Zhou Yan suddenly thought of something and said with some enthusiasm, “Also, tonight is actually the Chinese New Year on the Nongli calendar 1there, do you want to spend it with me?”

Nongli Spring Festival? What did he mean by Nongli Spring Festival…. Luo Futu had never heard of it, but from what he said, it must be a holiday in his “hometown”. However, Mu Lian told him that he should not agree to every invitation, otherwise he would look disrespectful. So he thought about it and shook his head, “No, I’m busy tonight.”

“….” Zhou Yan suddenly froze, and he frowned, “What do you have to do?”

Luo Futu thought for a long time, but could not think of what he had to do, so he finally picked up the manual on the table, “Write this, I want to finish it as soon as possible.”

Zhou Yan looked at him in silence for a long time, then lowered his head, “Then you are busy…. I’ll go first, I forgot, you’re a mystic, you don’t need to eat New Year’s Eve dinner.”

“….” Luo Futu watched Zhou Yan leave the room, feeling a hint that something was wrong. Mu Lian said that a short period of discomfort was a process that must be experienced – in fact, he was tempted to agree to Zhou Yan’s invitation. This bullshit employee handbook was something he didn’t care about, how could he not reject this stuff?

Luo Futu sat there drying for half a day, and naturally he couldn’t write anything. He suddenly called Mu Lian in the sea of consciousness and told her what just happened, “I think I shouldn’t have refused, he didn’t look good.”

Mu Lian almost spurted out a mouthful of blood, “High, High Priest, your servant said it was okay to refuse a normal date, ah!”

“What about now?”

“…. Obviously not ordinary, your servant doesn’t know what is meant by New Year’s Eve dinner, but it sounds like a very important thing.”

“….” Luo Futu stood up at once and asked through gritted teeth, “What do I do then?!”

Mu Lian no longer dared to speak, she never imagined that her wise and powerful spirit master would be such an idiot when it came to love!

Luo Futu did not get a response for a long time, and was angry enough to almost emit smoke. He hurried to the outside of the house, and could not wait to strangle Mu Lian in the sea of knowledge, “You are dead.”

“Ah ah ah! Your servant didn’t mean it! Anyway…. First catch up with him, and then… adapt to the circumstances….”

–She didn’t want to be skinned by the High Priest and stewed into snake soup!

Translator Notes:

  1. I had to do some research on this. So the original Chinese used was ę³•åŽ† which is actually the French Revolutionary Calendar which is a calendar that was only used for 12 years which made each month only 3 weeks but each week was 10 days long. It was a calendar that got rid of all holidays and left only days and weeks. Each year was marked with the beginning of the autumn equinox. I replaced this with the Nongli calendar (the lunar/farming/traditional calendar) because if they were to actually be using a calendar system from 1805, there would be no spring festival (as there were no holidays/special days), so it made more sense to change it to a calendar system others could actually understand. If you want to learn more about this French calendar, go HERE. They gave each day of each month a different name. So since I was born June 11th, June (meadows) 11 (strawberry), I am a strawberry meadows child. Lol.

I just can’t like Gabriel.
Honestly, these 2. It’s like the blind leading the blind. Both are too inexperienced in matters of the heart, to read between the lines šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø
Thank you both for the chapter.
