i have read a few novels, but this one view focus is quite different. piecing together all the puzzles pieces to understand why the world hated Wei and the contrast with his ‘fun’ personality, the weird tsudenre love and how everyone turned their back to Wei and why. It is quite a ride. Most of the novels would get quite boring by now or at least less exciting, but this one feels a bit different. Also the less focus on hardcore cultivation is quite of my liking, it feels more human and the read get digested easier.

1. This is a heavily condensed chapter. I got confused with so many names I had to stop every now and then from reading. But this is what I really love with Chinese BL(?) novels, especially the “period” ones, they’re really all-out on world-building first, before establishing the relationships of the main couple. It makes the novel longer, but who cares?? This is nothing, I know I can power through! Thank you so much for this chapter! ❤ 2. I was really, really hoping that LWJ is a gropey and clingy drunk. I much enjoyed this long chapter, rich with events and new characters, it had me to open a new tab to the characters and sects guide to follow up with story, I took my time reading its complicated events and I enjoyed it very much. the story telling is great and I never felt bored or confused, thanks to the author and a big thank you to the translator for their hard work and for making it an easy read.

About those hand seals… If you’re an active Buddhist who then you’d know that they still use the hand symbols during meditation according to what stage of meditation you’re at. And if you’re in deeper practices, then you’d be using items like bells, tingshas and singing bowls. The Paper talismans with demon-wardings or “turning away evil” are still used as well. They may seem odd to westerners, but I grew up with strong Buddhist/Taoist influences. The rituals are familiar.
