Chapter 14: Request

As there was the groundwork of the first mark, the second one didn’t last long, but to Lyss, it felt like a century had passed. When Lu Xingye released his hold on Lyss’s nape and carefully embraced him, Lyss had the strength to resist but was too exhausted to do so. He closed his eyes and leaned against Lu Xingye for a while. When he managed to control the pheromones, he opened his eyes and looked at Lu Xingye. “Back to your senses?”
Lu Xingye was obviously back too. He looked at the disheveled but blushing beauty in his arms, a mix of guilt, embarrassment, and itchiness overcoming him. After a while, he nodded. “Yeah, back to my senses.”
Lyss closed his eyes again, not making any attempt to sit up from Lu Xingye’s embrace. “How long until the meeting starts?”
“Another hour and a half,” Lu Xingye reported the time and couldn’t help but softly apologize to the omega in his arms. “I’m sorry.”
Both knew what he was apologizing for, but Lyss didn’t react much to his words, not even opening his eyes. “It’s fine.”
Lu Xingye’s mind was filled with the recent kiss, hug, and closeness, but Lyss seemed completely indifferent, as if it had all been a mundane affair.
The sudden infatuation felt like a bucket of cold water poured over a raging fire. Lu Xingye hugged him, suddenly remembering something. “When I toasted, I felt something on Sheng Dan.”
Lyss’s ears twitched slightly, but he still didn’t open his eyes. “What?”
That pair of white wolf ears brushed across Lu Xingye’s mind like feathers, making him unable to resist wanting more. “Kiss me, and I’ll tell you.”
Without any formality, a sudden “you” and blunt provocation made Lyss finally open his golden eyes to look at the person on him, seemingly wanting to see who dared speak such words.
Lu Xingye was somewhat nervous, mixed with a strange anticipation. They stared at each other for half a minute. When there was no reaction from Lyss, Lu Xingye’s gaze dimmed, a sudden self-mocking bitterness rising within him. He never expected that embarrassment from misreading the situation could be this uncomfortable.
Just as Lu Xingye was about to let go to retrieve the item from his pocket, Lyss suddenly lifted a hand and caught Lu Xingye’s ear, gently pulling it downward. The handsome and young alpha obediently lowered his head, seemingly lost.
For both the white wolf and the black wolf, being forced to bow by having their ears pulled was a huge humiliation, a sign of submission to a superior. Lu Xingye had no such consciousness. He obediently lowered his head, and the next moment—a slightly cool and gentle kiss landed on his cheek.
Lu Xingye incredulously widened his eyes and looked at the person in his arms. Yet, Lyss acted as if nothing had happened. He casually released Lu Xingye’s ear, lightly patted his cheek, and softly said, “Keep your promise, little pup.”
Perhaps due to exhaustion or the recent events, Lyss’s tone was not as cold as usual but rather soft, carrying a familiar teasing title and a hint of playfulness. In that moment, Lu Xingye felt as though someone had grasped his heart.
When Lu Xingye came to his senses, he had already taken out the object and handed it to the beautiful person in his arms. For an instant, Lu Xingye suddenly had a thought. He felt like one of those foolish monarchs from the simulated dramas of Serica, foolish enough to want to present the hearts of loyal subjects to the beloved queen.
Lyss, of course, was unaware of this little pup’s internal scheming. Upon seeing the object, he sat up, pressing against Lu Xingye’s thigh. “Spatial disruptor?… No, a spatial disruptor shouldn’t be this small.”
Lu Xingye, at this point, returned to reality and looked at the tiny object, like a grain of rice. “This should be a spatial transmitter, just miniature. I’ve seen it a few times in Starfall Sea. It’s generally used for temporary communication in makeshift locations. People possessing the same transmitter can project into the same space for a short conversation.”
Lyss frowned almost imperceptibly. “I’ve heard of it, but there aren’t devices like this on the market. Among the ones I’ve seen, the smallest was the size of a human hand.”
“This device is still in the development stage. The maximum space it can create doesn’t exceed ten square meters,” Lu Xingye explained. “And this miniature transmitter creates an even smaller space. Due to unstable technology, the so-called created space is more like a forcefully opened rift in space-time. It’s challenging to achieve communication, and once there’s a fluctuation, the person inside dies instantly, leaving no trace. It’s an invention of limited use.”
Lyss glanced at him. “You’re pretty knowledgeable in physics.”
Lu Xingye chuckled as he explained, “I never studied physics. I know this because during a competition, some idiot tried to use this thing against me, but ended up trapping himself inside, turning to dust.”
He casually mentioned it halfway through and suddenly had a suspicion, his expression turning serious. “Wait, could they all be carrying these transmitters?”
Lyss’s expression also turned serious, but after some thought, he dismissed the idea. “Unlikely, because it’s unnecessary. For the sake of transparency, there will be full video recording and security checks upon entering the meeting room. If they wanted to act, they would do so outside the meeting room, not during the meeting. So, there’s no need for the people entering the meeting room to carry these devices.”
“Indeed,” Lu Xingye nodded in agreement. Then he couldn’t help but ask, “So, Chief, who do you plan to have watching outside the meeting since the meeting is about to start?”
Lyss didn’t speak but calmly looked at the person beside him.
Lu Xingye seemed to have anticipated this. He raised an eyebrow. “Does the Chief trust me so much?”
Lyss nodded. “The meeting is four hours long, an hour and a half each for the first and second halves, and an hour for the break. In my estimation, they’ll set up devices during the first half and try to disrupt or cause some disturbance during the break, aiming to achieve certain goals in the second half. But thanks to you, most of them are quite drunk, so their plans might not go as smoothly, and it’ll be easier for you to disrupt.”
“Disrupting seems like a waste of such advanced technology,” Lu Xingye smiled, somewhat mischievous. “In my opinion, why not turn the tables and let them fall into their own trap while trying to catch the fish we want.”
Lyss considered for a moment and then nodded. “Makes sense. Let’s go with your plan. Thank you.”
“Though I’d really like to say it’s not a big deal, but…” Lu Xingye held Lyss’s waist and pulled him closer, surprisingly pitiful in his tone. “Chief, are you going to dismiss me after just a few words? Don’t you want to ask me properly?”
Lyss was always one to say one thing and stick to it. He had never encountered this kind of situation before. He was momentarily stunned and then spoke quite seriously. “Please help me.”
The plea sounded more like a threat coming from Lyss, but Lu Xingye found it somewhat adorable, and a hint of a smile crept onto his face. “Chief, your words make it seem like if I don’t agree, you’ll cut me down. Not much of a request, huh?”
Lyss furrowed his brow slightly. “What do you want me to do?”
“I want an answer to a question and…” Lu Xingye grinned mischievously, “a kiss different from just now.”
Understanding his intention, Lyss paused for a moment and, with a slightly dangerous tone, raised his golden eyes. “You’re asking for a lot.”
“Really?” Lu Xingye raised an eyebrow, smiling nonchalantly. “So, Chief, are you willing to give or not?”
The room fell silent for a moment. Lyss seemed surprised by Lu Xingye’s audacity, silently locking eyes for three seconds before speaking, “This won’t set a precedent.”
That was an agreement. Lu Xingye, who had been somewhat apprehensive, broke into a brilliant smile, showing a hint of youthfulness.
Lyss lowered his head, buttoning up his shirt. “What do you want to ask?”
“Walls have ears,” Lu Xingye didn’t speak directly, “I’ll save it for when we’re home.”
Lyss remained silent, only looking at Lu Xingye after buttoning up all his buttons. “Will the other matter also wait until we’re home?”
“No, that one’s for now,” Lu Xingye lowered his head, leaning against Lyss’s forehead, surprisingly bold, “Can I take care of it myself, Chief?”
