Chapter 52: Drunkenness

Translated by Addis of Exiled Rebels Scanlations

Lin Xi’s hand hung there, hearing Lu Xingye’s obviously unfriendly words. He couldn’t help but furrow his brow and assert, “That’s right, but may I ask how you knew? Are you, an imperial prince, peeking into our chief’s privacy?”

His words clearly aligned himself with Lyss. Hearing this, Lyss’s heart skipped a beat and he instinctively glanced at Lu Xingye. As expected, he noticed the displeasure on Lu Xingye’s face. He discreetly exchanged a look with Lillia, and she promptly intervened, “Lin Xi.”

Lillia, being one of the two present who knew Lu Xingye, was aware that he was not only an imperial prince but also the chief’s confidant, possibly even Lin Lang’s biological father. From any angle, it was not appropriate for Lin Xi, a mere trainee secretary, to speak in such a manner.

Moreover, Lu Xingye had once been Lyss’s trainee secretary. Seeing Lin Xi, a spirited alpha, occupying the same position he had held years ago gave Lillia’s scalp a prickling sensation at the thought.

Upon hearing the warning from his superior, Lin Xi’s overheated brain instantly cleared. With all the department heads and the chief present, it wasn’t his place, as a trainee secretary, to speak. Realizing this, he quickly withdrew his hand, albeit reluctantly, and stood back by Lillia’s side.

“There’s a banquet at 7 PM,” Lyss lightly tugged Lu Xingye’s sleeve, addressing the representatives from the federation, “Go freshen up, someone will escort you there.”

Lillia nodded promptly, “Alright.” In an attempt to ease the atmosphere, she then smiled at Lin Lang, “Long time no see, Miss Lin Lang.”

“Good day, Aunt Lillia.” Lin Lang, holding Lyss’s hand, gave a faint smile. “Didn’t we meet just half a month ago?”

“It’s been half a month already. There’s a saying in Serica, ‘A day apart seems like three autumns.'” Lillia chuckled, “Despite being with the chief for so long in the empire, it seems you don’t miss us at all?”

Lin Lang, feeling a bit embarrassed upon hearing this, instinctively glanced at Lu Xingye. It was easy to guess the shy expression on the young girl’s face. Her mom had introduced her to her dad, and she hadn’t thought much about these uncles and aunts. Realizing this, the innocent girl felt a bit embarrassed.

Lillia, noticing this, was momentarily stunned. Certain suspicions in her mind seemed to be confirmed. After regaining her composure, she smiled at Lyss and Lu Xingye, but inside, she felt a swirl of complicated thoughts. She knew the current situation wasn’t suitable for revealing Lin Lang’s relationship with Lu Xingye. If Lin Lang referred to Lu Xingye as “brother,” what should she call the chief?

This was a question best left unpondered. Lillia maintained her silence and followed the empire’s arranged attendant towards the rest area.

With more than two hours until the banquet, as soon as Lyss returned to the room, Lu Xingye pulled him into the bedroom, leaving Lin Lang alone in the living room, flipping through picture books. The young girl didn’t even bother to look up, unperturbed by the situation.

Noticing this, Lyss, feeling helpless as he was pressed against the bedroom door, tried to push the person behind him away while panting, “Stop doing this in front of our daughter… mmm…”

Before finishing his sentence, he was caught by the nape of his neck, causing Lyss to instinctively bite the back of the hand. His tail involuntarily wrapped around the person’s waist, as if trying to please them.

“I’m jealous, big brother,” Lu Xingye shamelessly teased. “Console me.”

Lyss almost laughed in exasperation. “Why are you jealous of him?”

“Big brother likes the young ones, right?” Lu Xingye started making baseless claims. “He’s younger than me, a white wolf alpha, and your secretary. You must have a lot of contact with him, right?”

“When did I say I like the y—ouch, be gentle with the bite…” Lyss couldn’t support himself against the door as the nape of his neck was bitten. His body slid down, and the person behind him hoisted him up, holding him in their arms. “He’s just a trainee secretary, Lillia is his superior… I hardly meet him, and he doesn’t have such intentions.”

“You’re lying,” Lu Xingye, empathizing with his own experiences, retorted, “I used to be the chief’s trainee secretary. How could I not know what a trainee secretary thinks?”

Lyss was momentarily stunned by his reversal of roles. After three seconds of silence, he asked, “What did you think?”

With a sudden force around his waist, Lyss was flipped around unexpectedly. He instinctively held onto Lu Xingye’s shoulders, feeling extremely insecure with his legs dangling in the air.

In this position, Lu Xingye leaned down and whispered softly in his ear, “In the office, I used to think about doing…”

The latter part of his sentence was barely audible, only the two of them could hear it. Despite being someone accustomed to the ways of the world, Lyss couldn’t help but blush at his words. His fingers unconsciously tightened around the other’s arm, exerting considerable force. Lu Xingye seemed impervious to the pain. In the end, Lyss, realizing he might be hurting him, released his grip.

Lyss leaned against the door and looked at Lu Xingye for a while before finally commenting, “…You’re quite bold.”

Unashamed, Lu Xingye lowered his head and kissed his lips, murmuring amidst the intimacy, “This morning, before big brother woke up, I asked Lin Lang if she wanted a little sister or brother…”

Alarms went off in Lyss’s mind, and he turned his face away from the kiss. “What did she say?”

“She said she wanted a sister to play with her.” Lu Xingye laughed and said graphically, “Brother… When is your next estrus period?”

Lyss pursed his lips and glanced at him, before turning his head sideways and closing his eyes in a nonviolent and uncooperative manner.

Lu Xingye raised an eyebrow at this and leaned over to nibble on the slightly trembling beast’s ear, “If brother doesn’t want to talk, then I’ll ask myself.”

It’s hard to say exactly how Lu Xingye managed to ask within two hours, but eventually he found out when Lyss’ next estrus period was.

When the two of them brought Lin Lang to the dinner party, the smile on Lu Xingye’s face drew sideways glances from the others. Especially those in the Empire who were more familiar with him, who would never have expected Lu Xingye to actually show this kind of smile which carried neither sarcasm nor coldness.

In comparison, the atmosphere around Lyss was much colder. From the moment he walked into the banquet, there wasn’t a single smile on his face, but it wasn’t quite true to say that he was cold, instead it was more like he was sulking.

Lin Lang cautiously looked at the huge, colorful fountain in front of the entrance, “Mommy… Can we go to the fountain after the party?”

“It’s too cold at night.” Lyss said back, “We’ll play tomorrow.”

Lin Lang nodded with some regret, “Alright.”

Lyss had a reputation for not getting along well with anyone, and now no one dared to come up and talk to him. He quietly stood aside with Lin Lang, intentionally separated from Lu Xingye, and even intentionally turned his back to the other, demonstrating his attitude with his actions.

It was rare for him to show this kind of sulking behavior, Lu Xingye didn’t feel guilty when he saw this, instead, he felt that Lyss was cute as hell, and his smile became brighter and brighter.

Lin Lang was completely confused why the two of them suddenly got cold feet after just one afternoon, the little girl cautiously poked her head out of Lyss’s arms just in time to meet her dad’s brilliant smile before she was taken back into Lyss’s arms by pinching her ears, “Don’t pay any attention to him.”

Lin Lang blinked and finally chose Lyss over her own dad, winking nicely and saying, “Okay.” After saying this, she whispered in Lyss’s ear, “Did Daddy make Mommy angry?”

Lyss lowered his eyes and took a piece of cake to perfume his daughter, “He doesn’t listen.”

Lin Lang startled, sniffed and quickly took the cake for good behavior, “Baby is obedient.”

Lyss’s eyes were dyed with laughter, “Well, baby is much more obedient than him.”

Lu Xingye saw his daughter being forced to “isolate” herself, and laughed even more happily. This kind of childish behavior made Lyss even cuter, if he didn’t know why Lyss was upset, Lu Xingye probably could not help but come forward to hold the person in his arms.

But soon he can’t laugh out, because Lillia brought Lin Xi in, Lu Xingye’s afterglow glanced at that person, his expression suddenly gave a start, the prime minister in his ear is giving him instructions on what to do, but Lu Xingye’s previous still quite serious attitude all of a sudden became perfunctory.

As soon as Lin Xi came in, he saw Lyss standing aside with his daughter, and he also noticed that the Sixth Prince, who clearly had evil intentions, was actually not beside the other. His heart stirred and he followed Lillia over.

Lyss held his daughter in his arms and briefly talked to Lillia about the things that he would focus on recording later, Lin Lang saw that he was going to talk about business and took the initiative to say that she wanted to go down and play on her own.

Lyss sniffed and looked around, “There’s too many people.”

Lin Xi hurriedly said, “Why don’t you let me take Miss Lin Lang to play.”

Upon hearing his offer to help, Lyss fell silent for a moment. Certain places began to ache, Lyss was intentionally hanging Lu Xingye out to dry, but that didn’t mean he would disregard the other party’s mood. His puppy was too jealous and mad as hell. Lyss finally shook his head, “No, it’s no bother.”

At this exact moment, a familiar voice came from behind him, “Where does Lin Lang want to go play? I’ll accompany you, okay?”

Lyss suddenly had a headache, turned his head to look at Lu Xingye, the other immediately raised a rather energetic smile, it is often said that the hand does not hit the smiling face, Lyss was not going to say anything to him in public, just lowered his eyes and put Lin Lang on the ground, and then implicitly glanced at him, which probably meant to warn him not to always say something in front of his daughter.

Lu Xingye smiled and showed an expression of “I will be obedient”.

Upon hearing that she could go play with her father, Lin Lang was quite happy, and as soon as she landed on the ground, she was about to jump into Lu Xingye’s arms.

Lin Xi didn’t know the relationship between them, seeing this situation, he even blocked in front of Lin Lang and alertly said, “Our young lady won’t bother His Royal Highness.”

This sentence made the few people present freeze.

Lillia’s heart was almost in her throat, thinking that they were a family of three, it was not your place to say this.

Lu Xingye’s smile didn’t change, only the bottom of his eyes gradually lost its smile, and his whole aura became dangerous all of a sudden.

Looking at the puppy who was eager to show his fangs, Lyss helplessly and amusingly sighed in his heart, but on the surface, he softly said to Lin Lang, “Who does baby want to go play with?”

This was actually blatant favoritism, of course Lyss knew who Lin Lang would choose.

“I want to go with da-” Lin Lang was after all only a five year old girl, almost blurted out her words under the happiness, but Lyss quickly pinched her ear, the little girl changed her words after a pause, “Baby wants to go with brother!”

She didn’t say which brother, but Lyss just put her down and instructed, “Then go, remember not to make trouble.” The little girl crashed into Lu Xingye’s arms like a flower.

Lu Xingye picked her up, Lin Lang wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered in his ear, “I want to go to the fountain, Mommy said it’s too cold outside and won’t let me go, Daddy take me there, okay?”

Looking at Lin Lang running to Lu Xingye’s side with unrivaled enthusiasm, Lin Xi’s face instantly became unpleasant.

Everyone knew that Lyss was showing his own attitude through his daughter, looking at his love rival’s ugly look, Lu Xingye’s mood instantly leapt up, he didn’t even think about it before he picked his daughter up in a hug, “No problem, wherever we go to play is fine.”

Lyss reminded, “She’s wearing a skirt, don’t let her freeze.”

Lu Xingye took off his jacket and wrapped it around Lin Lang in his arms, “Don’t worry, she won’t freeze.”

That military jacket symbolizes the royal family. The pattern for each prince was different so it was specially made, along the top of it, there were twelve starry stones embedded, representing the twelve monarchs of the empire. Such a special piece of clothing, yet Lu Xingye casually draped it on Lin Lang’s body. The little girl didn’t know what this clothing represented. She was happy to be wrapped in the jacket and waved happily at Lyss.

The people of the empire saw this and revealed expressions of shock to the point of being speechless. There wasn’t an individual who could see that something was wrong at this moment.

In the palace of the empire, the sixth prince of the empire even put the symbol of the glory of the empire’s military uniform on a little girl. Except perhaps to please Lyss, the crowd could not think of another reason for him to do this.

After watching Lu Xingye walk out with Lin Lang in his arms, everyone looked at the person in question. Lyss continued to talk with Lillia as usual, as if he didn’t feel there was anything wrong at all. Some of the Imperial Ministers who had originally intended to befriend Lu Xingye had a change of heart when they saw this and thought again.

So when Lyss and Lillia finished talking about the general flow, just as they turned around, they saw several imperial officials walking up with wine in their hands.

Lyss looked puzzled and was just about to say that he couldn’t hold his liquor when the next moment he heard one of the officials introduce himself, “I am the person in charge of this reboot program, Kaji Marcus.”

The words of refusal came to a halt, Lyss hesitated for three seconds before picking up a glass of wine from the side and said, “I’ve heard a lot about you.”

Lyss really didn’t know how to drink, the only experience he had was during the last banquet with Sheng Dan, and that time it was Lu Xingye who drank the second half for him.

As for this kind of thing, it is not good to refuse others after making a start.

After three glasses of wine, Lyss felt that his mind began to go numb, and the people and things around him seemed to be separated by a layer of thin veil, which made it difficult for him to see them vaguely. After an unknown amount of time, Lyss realized that he could not drink any more. His consciousness was slightly blurred and, to some extent, he was unable to distinguish between memory and reality.

“Sorry, I’m a little unwell.” Lyss subconsciously uttered the same words as he did five years ago, “My secretary will do the rest for me.”

In his trance, he thought that his secretary was still Lu Xingye. But Lin Xi’s heart jumped at his words, and he hurriedly raised his hand to pick up the cup in Lyss’s hand, “Okay-“

Before he could finish his sentence, a hand came from behind Lyss and took the glass in his hand and drank it down.

The imperial ministers’ faces changed slightly when they saw this, and Lin Xi sank his face and said, “Your Imperial Highness, Mr. Chief said it was to be served by me instead, your actions are more or less offensive, aren’t they?”

Lu Xingye held Lin Lang who was about to fall asleep in one hand, and held a clean wine glass in the other hand which was vainly encircling Lyss’s waist. Sniffing at the words, he lowered his eyes and leaned his head to the other party’s ear as he said, “Mr. Chief, your secretary is questioning me.”

The familiar aroma of tea lingered around his body, and Lyss’s alcohol-soaked spirit instantly relaxed.

“It’s a bit difficult…” Lyss said as he rubbed his dizzy temples, “Is there cold water?”

Lu Xingye saw this and raised his hand to pass Lin Lang into Lillia’s arms, “I’ll take him to the restroom.”

He left the crowd behind and half-carried Lyss towards the restroom.

The cold stream of water slapped on his face, and the uncomfortable heat dissipated a little.

“Is it still difficult?” Lu Xingye asked softly.

Lyss looked at himself in the mirror, shook his head and gently closed his eyes.

Lu Xingye thought that he had already sobered up, and now he was just a little shy, unwilling to face his drunken self. He was relieved and a little amused, and deliberately teased him, “I didn’t realize that the Chief Lord’s capacity for alcohol is so poor.”

As a matter of fact, Lyss’s alcohol capacity was indeed very poor, and his alcohol strength was gradually diffused, that was to say, he was only looking sober now, in reality, he was more dizzy than before.

Lyss closed his eyes because the sensation of looking in the mirror brought back some bad memories.

In these five years, he had stared at himself in the mirror countless times alone, and that bitter loneliness and unspeakable longing crushed his mind like a blunt knife cutting into his flesh. Alcohol vaporized the most unspeakable emotions in his heart.

Lu Xingye saw that the person in his arms did not speak, lowered his head and wanted to tease something, but at this moment heard Lyss softly spoke, “I missed you.”

Lu Xingye couldn’t help but be stunned, “What?”

Lyss turned around without saying a word, raised his hand and hooked Lu Xingye’s neck, kissed up quite seriously, the movement of pure familiarity completely unlike a drunken person.

Lu Xingye was caught off guard and kissed by him.

The sweet fragrance of white peaches mixed with the scent of wine surrounded his ears, and his voice, which was several degrees softer than usual, sounded like he was pampering himself, “I missed you so much… Puppy.”

The author has something to say:

Puppy: ?!!?

Drunken wife, ah!

Lyss really shouldn’t drink at all. Just make up a medical reason, or something, for not being able to.
LX doesn’t seem at all bothered about whether his actions will stir up any trouble for them, or between their Federation and Empire.
Oh dear; puppy… Will Lyss be ‘punished’? 😉
Thank you both for the chapter.
