i really very much dislike yu ziyuan, she’s just so petty and extremely unreasonable, her view is extremely narrow and she is so toxic to everyone around her, she is a negative energy to her family. fengmian however i have mixed feelings with, he is still a bad parent, he could have just communicated with jiang cheng better and even though he is aware of the rumours or how it looks like he favours wei ying, he should have made a talk with the three of them or something so no one misunderstands, such a tragic family. i feel so… Read more »

I love the characterisation. Even if it hurts sometimes. The situation between Jiang fengmian and Yu ziyuan is so realistic, a bad marriage that bores negativity and affects the child(ren). Good thing wei wuxian’s skin is so thick, unfortunately jiangchen isn’t. I’m starting to see how their relationship will end up (first time reader).

After briefly learning that the author of this book is a woman, I can’t help but feel a bit of an impending vexation and desolation at the lack of female characters present in the series. But conveniently the author makes room for misogynistic degradation that takes place. Unfortunate and there are no excuses. Do better.

Does anyone ever think that the reason Jiang Fengmian treats Wei Ying the way he does it because Wei Ying’s father was his best friend and most loyal person. He’s wracked with guilt over what happened to his parents and that Wei Ying was an orphan on the streets for several years starving and fighting dogs for food. he’s kinder because of the guilt

Man. I REALLY miss wwx friendship with Jiang Cheng. They were such good friends even though Jiang Cheng would lose his temper easily. I don’t like Jiang Chang’s mother though. I can understand her frustration but she’s extremely rude. Her negativity and resentment towards wwx affected Jiang Cheng. JC’s father isn’t right either though.

I get that Madam Yu is promoting Jiang Cheng because he’s hers, her beloved son, her heir, her pride–especially since being a woman in a society like this means that even your own accomplishments are mostly ignored, and only if you have a powerful son will anything you ever did ultimately matter. It’s messed up.

I hate how Madam Yu blames Wei Wuxian for everything. He’s a KID. Just because he’s outspoken and creative and craves that mineral dopamine (/j), he’s constantly everyone’s scapegoat–even as a kid. It’s heartbreaking.
And still he keeps a smile on as much as he possibly can, and forgives people who trash him because he sees their humanity.
