SUMMARY:

Qiao Xi is a young demon in an internship. According to the rules of the Demon Academy, in order to pass the internship, you must successfully seduce a human and make him willingly give his soul to you.

Qiao Xi confidently created a false identity, came to the human world, and began to focus on entrapping his target– Han Tian. However, after many days of work, this naive, cute little demon didn’t know that his target was actually a high-ranking angel charged with protecting the city they lived in.

Without the power to ‘seduce’, Qiao Xi decides he will try to capture his target with money schemes or contracts but he, himself, ends up addicted to the sweet, intoxicating taste of Han Tian’s food and he ends up becoming the prey…

Chapter 1: A Soul That Emits an Aroma

Horns: retracted.

Tail: tucked away.

Clothes: custom-made three-piece suit in dark gray gingham with a dark red bow tie.

Qiao Xi once again examined himself in the floor-to-ceiling dressing mirror. Good, very good. He was covered with the elegance of the new-generation demon, very suitable for hunting.

With a smile on his face, he took out a large black umbrella from the umbrella stand and walked towards the prey spot in the autumn rain.

The Demon Academy had arranged a false identity for Qiao Xi as a young master with money to spend. The place he was initially booked to live was also in line with this false identity: a top apartment in downtown Haicheng, the closest thing to luxury.

However, Qiao Xi chose this remote and secluded villa community after wandering around Haicheng.

This was because the cafe, named “Angel’s Feather,” in front of the neighborhood had the most delicious brownies, the most delicious cookies, and the sweetest apple pie in the city.

Before coming to the earthly realm, Qiao Xi had never eaten human food, let alone desserts—after all, the Demon World didn’t have any serious chefs.

So, when he happened to pass by this cafe and smelled a pleasant sweet aroma, he walked in like a possessed demon king.

Next, when he put a spoonful of brownie into his mouth for the first time, he felt his soul—oh no, he didn’t have one—his whole body and mind, trembling.

It was so beautiful and tasty!

Almost in that instant, he made a decision that he would live in this neighborhood.

In the intern report of that day, he described in detail this incredible delicacy, and the enchanting aroma of this store.

However, even though he loved the smell, he never thought that it would have anything to do with his graduation project.

It was only just now, after seeing the guide sent by the Demon Academy, that he realized what the sweet aroma meant—it was the sweet aroma of “pure soul,” which he needed to capture for his graduation project. It was the smell of the “prey” that he needed to capture for his graduation project.

He was now very sure that the prey had once appeared in this small cafe.

With a confident and proud smile, Qiao Xi pushed open the glass door and walked into “Angel’s Feather.”

“Mr. Qiao Xi, welcome.” Sang Sang, the waitress, came over with a smile.

From the first day Qiao Xi came here, he was greeted by this little girl with round face and short hair.

By now, Sang Sang was very familiar with his taste and led Qiao Xi directly to the table where he sat most often, quickly bringing his favorite classic pairing: a brownie, a cup of black tea, and two extra small cups of milk.

Qiao Xi raised his head, his beautiful black eyes looked at the other party, and his voice was gentle. “Thank you, Sang-sang. By the way, I would like to ask, is there any other waitress here besides you?”

From the smell, the source of that sweet fragrance was not Sang Sang, but someone else.

And, this sweet fragrance was gradually fading over the past month, so this person should not have appeared for some time.

Sang Sang froze and replied with a smile, “We have another trainee. However, she doesn’t come often.”

Qiao Xi looked at Sang Sang expectantly. “Then, this trainee hasn’t come for a month?”

Sang Sang was a little surprised. “Ah, yes. She’s actually a student at the nearby Medical College and has quite a lot of classes, so she hasn’t been here for exactly a month.”

“Okay, I see.” Qiao Xi smiled in satisfaction, thanked Sang Sang again, picked up the black tea and took a sip.

Sang Sang put away the tray, turned around and went into the production area.

For a while, Qiao Xi was left alone in the front of the store.

He turned his head, looked out the window at the continuous rain and thought, his deduction could not be wrong. This intern, whom he had never met before, should be the “prey” this time!

Qiao Xi, who thought things were going exceptionally well, had a glow of excitement in his eyes.

At this moment, someone pushed open the glass door of the cafe.

A special sweet smell permeated the room.

Qiao Xi subconsciously twitched his nose, and his heart jumped uncontrollably—Yes! This is the smell!

He held back his surprise and tried not to show his face as he looked toward the door——

It was a tall man.

The man wore a white pinstripe shirt with the sleeves rolled up above his elbows and had a wet black trench coat on his arm. He turned sideways, and after putting the trench coat on the coat rack, he strode unnoticed to the bar, opened the cooler and took out a bottle of soda, and drank it.

Despite the distance, Qiao Xi saw at once that the collar of the black trench coat was embroidered with a special graphic—it was the emblem of the nearby Medical College. It seemed that this must be the Medical College student whose working hours were uncertain. 1

Well… The medical college student, who had to come to the cafe to work part-time even though he was busy with school work… Oh, it must be because of the lack of money.

Within a few seconds, Qiao Xi’s mind had already constructed a perfect “plan”.

Qiao Xi hid the smile on his face, and took off his Patek Philippe 2from his wrist and put it on the table, raising his hand. “Hello! I need another cup of black tea.”

The man raised his head in confusion and looked around for a moment.

Seeing that no one was around, the man didn’t say anything and quickly made a cup of black tea and brought it to Qiao Xi.

At this point, Qiao Xi saw the man’s face.

It was a young man in his twenties. If judged by the eyes of ordinary humans, his appearance was, without a doubt, extremely impactful. Unlike Qiao Xi’s slightly soft facial lines, his features were exquisite and deep, while his eyes had a bit of warmth to them, making them extraordinarily moving.

However, Qiao Xi never cared about the appearance of humans. For demons, the human body was nothing more than a vessel for the soul.

When the youth brought the black tea gently to Qiao Xi, Qiao Xi held his breath, resting on the table with a slight movement of his fingers—

Click! The snow-white black teacup suddenly shattered into pieces.

Warm black tea suddenly flowed all over the table and pooled around the watch.

“Oh my!” Qiao Xi stood up in a mock panic.

“Ah, how could this happen!” The youth was also alarmed. Perhaps because he was worried about Qiao Xi’s injury, he did not reach out to touch the Patek Philippe but directly grabbed Qiao Xi’s hand.

In an instant, a subtle and peculiar feeling leaped through Qiao Xi’s hand. Like a very slight electric current along the place where he was touched, and a trace of it surged upward.

The youth held Qiao Xi’s hand and examined it very carefully. “Ah, fortunately, your hand is not burned.”

This strange feeling made Qiao Xi inexplicably a little embarrassed. He drew back his hand with a swish and tried to direct his lines to his script. “My hand is fine. Ah, my watch…”

Only then did the youth notice the soaked watch. With a surprised look on his face, he hurriedly drew some tissue from the table and wiped the dial. “Will it still work? Is it… It’s been soaked?”

Hey, of course it won’t work. This watch, like the black tea cup, was destroyed from the inside with the power of a demon! Qiao Xi thought smugly, while noticing with satisfaction that apologies and panic were spreading across the youth’s face.

“Ah… It’s really broken? I’m really sorry, I’ll take it to the watch store for you and see if it can be fixed?” The youth had a sincere face.

A watch store? Fix it? Qiao Xi almost laughed out loud.

It seemed that this was a kid who didn’t even know the name of Patek Philippe! He was even poorer than he had thought before.

No matter, this was better.

“Mn, I’m afraid this watch can’t be repaired. Actually, it’s okay. You don’t have to mind,” Qiao Xi said graciously.

“No, no, I spilled the black tea by accident, and that’s why I broke your watch. I will definitely find a way to fix it.” The youth looked insistent.

“So…” Qiao Xi’s face showed some difficulty. “Well, then I’ll trouble you. Then, why don’t you leave me your contact information? You can tell me when it’s fixed.”

Qiao Xi said this, while pulling out his phone QR code.

“Ah, okay.” The youth pulled out his cell phone.

At that moment, Sang Sang’s surprised voice came from behind the two. “Huh? How did you…”

The young man quickly turned around and explained fluently to Sang Sang, “I’m sorry, store manager, I accidentally spilled my black tea and broke this gentleman’s watch. I have just agreed with him that I will take care of fixing it for him.”

Sang Sang looked surprised, her mouth opened into an O shape, but no words came out.

Qiao Xi smiled and said, “Sang Sang, this is the intern you were talking about, right? The one who is studying in Medical College? There was no one else in the store just now, so I ordered another cup of black tea when he came in.”

With his back turned to him, Qiao Xi didn’t see the young man wink at Sang Sang with a wry smile.

Sang Sang shook her head and said hesitantly, “Mn, it’s… I guess. Ah, did you spill your black tea? I’ll go get a rag.”

After saying that, she hurried into the utility room again.

Qiao Xi felt that Sang Sang was in a hurry, as if she was…hiding from something.

But he didn’t take this to heart.

He glanced at his phone screen, and a new contact had been added, but the other party’s avatar was pitch black, and the name field was blank.

“Your avatar is really special,” Qiao Xi praised hypocritically. He tried his best to hide his smile and introduced himself seriously, “By the way, my name is Qiao Xi, I live around here.”

In his heart, he was already overjoyed—precious prey, I have locked onto you!

The corner of Han Tian’s mouth rose slightly, and his tone was gentle and calm. “Hello. My name is Han Tian and I occasionally work at this cafe. Nice to meet you, Qiao Xi.”

Qiao Xi, who was immersed in joy, did not notice the flicker of playfulness in the eyes of his “prey”.

Was wondering what the new novel would be, after completing Deliberate Mark, and this sounds like it’s going to be fun.
The soulless after the soul and desserts… yummy 😉
Hope it’s a happy ending though!
Thank you for translating, editing and bringing this new read.
