Wei Long blinked, flattered to find that his rank had been raised to ‘dear’ and nodded with a smile, “No problem. For your sake, even if I have to transport a jar of blood, I will gladly do so.”

“Don’t worry, it’s not that scary.” Having solved the most critical part, Shang HaoJia also finally calmed his heart. He replied in a light tone as he handed Wei Long the resting layered serum in a sealed bag, “I called my colleague. He will be waiting at the main gate of the medical university and just give this to him for me. It’s almost dawn outside. Are you still free to move around?”

“Please don’t worry, I recently discovered a sunscreen that works well. Thanks to it, I’ve been able to spend a lot more time outdoors.” The vampire, who was keeping up with the times, smiled lightly and leaned down slightly to pick up the bag with the serum. “Is there anything else I can do for you? I understand the importance of this matter, but it does seem a bit too easy for me.”

“You’d be doing me a great favor if you could deliver the package for me as soon as possible and then return to talk to me about what the hell is going on here.” Shang HaoJia, who was still in doctor mode, didn’t think much of this vampire friend’s especially high motivation today. Just nodded, and then turned to the bewildered youth.

“You do not go around for the next two days, when the day dawns I will take you to the city’s Criminal Investigation Team. They probably need to understand some of the situation, so I hope you can cooperate.”

“Oh oh, okay, I know…” The young man nodded in confusion, touched his flat chest, then mysteriously asked, “Doctor, is it because I can heal my own wounds, ah? Is this considered a superpower? I’m not blowing you off. When I was brought in with blood all over, I thought I was dying!”

“I’m not bragging to you either, when I sewed up your wounds you even praised me as a stapler.” Shang HaoJia returned a sentence without mercy, and could not help but raise his hand to rub the corner of his forehead, and yawning very lightly.

Wei Long, who was about to leave, turned back around and held his arm with concern, “My friend, perhaps I’m being a bit nosy – but your body does need rest. You have only had a short two hours of deep sleep this evening, and for an Emergency Department doctor with a heavy workload, such rest is clearly not enough…”

“That only means you don’t know enough about the Emergency Department. If I had more than two hours of complete deep sleep as a heavily employed Emergency Department doctor, I would wonder if my phone was broken.”

Rubbing his sore back, Shang HaoJia shook his head and laughed lightly before pulling out his phone and seeing a row of missed calls from his own parents, “Great. I can at least be sure that my phone is not broken.” He continued, “I’ve got to get back to the lab, cover Wei Long’s jump out of the window, and tell He JiaLun to keep an eye on the youth.”

After handing over the work at hand, Shang HaoJia finally caught a break and went into the dressing room to return the call of his old father who was addicted to working in his spare time.

“Little Jia, report on your situation there.” The order on the phone was still as short and clear as every time. The thought of discussing the importance of kinship with his own old father was once again dismissed. Shang HaoJia shook his head in resignation and smiled bitterly, relaxing his body to lean against the wall.

“According to my patient’s description, it was an indiscriminate attack at a concert that resulted in more than twenty injuries and no deaths. Dad, you may not believe it, but the most scientific explanation so far is that they were probably attacked by a werewolf…” Shang HaoJia had guessed that his parents were working on the case, and wanted to wait until it was clear, but after deliberating, he still decided to be truthful, “If you don’t believe me, I can send over a few photos of my patient transformed. The visual effect was absolutely exciting-“

“No need, seeing is believing. I believe –” Before he could finish, he was suddenly interrupted without any reason. Seemingly to mirror this phrase, the cacophony of a miserable wolf’s howl rang out faintly in the background.

“Father! You went out to the crime scene again?!” Shang HaoJia jumped up in dismay, his tone once again ended in a large exclamation point, “I know you always say that the old steed doesn’t want to be stuck in the stable, but the old steed needs to be in the stable ah…”

“Ai, do you have no new patients?” The voice on the phone remained calm, clearly not intending to discuss with him about horses and stables, “We need to identify the injured now. The werewolves have a singular attack pattern, but the consequences are not yet clear to us. I need you to get a good count of all your patients’ specifics and report back to me every hour you receive a reply.”

“Understood…” Shang HaoJia responded breathlessly, wrenching the locker door and standing up to walk to the sink to wash his face, “Dad, I consulted with a few of my friends, and the news they gave me is quite credible. If you are willing to come down from the front line first-“

Before he could finish his sentence, there was a sudden boom of something heavy hitting the ground from the other end.

Shang HaoJia’s heart tightened. He was just about to ask about the situation, when through the phone he could hear a noisy collision. Then he heard an uninterrupted sound of running and gunfire. He called out, as his heart became more and more filled with anxiety, “Dad! What’s going on? Are you okay there?”

“Please rest assured, my dear friend. Your father is perfectly safe. By the way, you, father and son, look so much alike that I feel like I have seen your face in twenty years.”

To his surprise, Wei Long’s familiar, elegant voice came from the other end of the line, slightly distorted by the intermittent signal, but still colored with a calm and patient smile, “Like I said, it’s too easy for me to deliver the serum. I am honored to be given a valuable opportunity to be able to show the righteous and brave side of the Blood on my way home from my mission.”

“You must watch your posture, my dad has a worse back than I do…” Roughly having guessed what’s going on at that end and knowing that there was a pure-blooded vampire present, Shang HaoJia’s heart was soothed. He raised his hand to wipe the cold sweat off his brow. “Help me watch my father. I will go to you guys later. How is that werewolf? Did it hurt anyone again?”

“Please rest assured that werewolves are not a very powerful race. Especially after humans have invented powerful heat weapons like guns. Such low-ranking wolves will almost always be captured and killed in the first round once they jump, and the situation is now very stable.” The noise on the phone gradually calmed down, Wei Long lightly smiled and then suddenly spoke again, “My dear friend – please allow me to return the phone to your father first. He looks very much as if he has something to say to you…”

Shang HaoJia had an ominous feeling, raised his eyebrows and leaned against the wall. He heard his old father’s voice on the phone, “My dear son, are you looking for a boyfriend who is the leader of the drama club?”
