Mecha Chapter 57: Rescue

After dinner, Yuan Xi and Luo XiaoLou snuggled up and took a nap. 

Then when night came, Yuan Xi once again led the men to kill the bug beasts all night long. It was the first time they had spent the night outside, and there was no rest for the mecha warriors.

Other than that… It was no different than when they were back in the caves. The only difference was just that they could sleep at night. Luo XiaoLou was afraid to show his head. There was no pussycat around. There was no warmth, either — even though he had always been a bad sleeper, there was a good side to him after all.

Except for Luo XiaoLou, there were very few people who could sleep so soundly through the screams and danger. The mecha makers mostly leaned over the campfire to keep warm.

So… When Yuan Xi came back in the morning and saw Luo XiaoLou in his sleeping bag — white, young and drowsy, he couldn’t wait to pick up and bite Luo XiaoLou. 

But then again, it was a very satisfying sight for Yuan Xi. Look how well he’s kept his slave! Luo XiaoLou, who had been dug up from the sleeping bag, rubbed his eyes and started to prepare breakfast, which Yuan Xi ate and then went to bed. He didn’t want to take up any of Yuan Xi’s precious sleeping time.

And the days passed this way. They followed the probe’s directions to where the  information collector was, and continuously killed the bug beasts and animals along the way, that the students were now used to it. 

The decision to leave the cave was a right one… and the progress of the mecha warriors was evident. They had been able to spare five men to rest and recuperate each night. Even if half of them were not rested, they were now able to sleep through the night in turns.

Finally, on the twenty-fifth day, they finally found the information collector their group had been looking for.

The students cheered and some of the girls even got teary-eyed. They could finally get out of here. This hellish month was finally over. But the thought of being separated from the team leader was really hard…

What’s more surprising was the day after they found their target, the students on the planet were finally able to contact Planet Anse’s headquarters.

The people of Planet Anse were going crazy, especially their parents and Saint Miro Academy. It turned out the storm didn’t just affect the asteroid; it had also devastated the surrounding galaxy. This unexpected storm of unprecedented magnitude had nearly shut down Planet Anse’s communications.

The aftermath of the particle storm was also severe and that was why the headquarters never sent a rescue ship.

When Planet Anse’s communications system had just been repaired, it immediately contacted the outbound training teams but the students were on the cusp of the storm.

Some even began to suspect that the students were all dead. The parents were crying and even approached the school to talk. It was not easy to have a child… 

In the midst of all the gloom at Saint Miro Academy… Good news arrived! The students from the field trip were alive! Thirty-one were injured but there were no deaths!

Planet Anse’s headquarter was cheering, and Saint Miro Academy was celebrating. This was their proud Mecha Department and Mecha Manufacturing Department! They came through in the midst of a huge crisis.

And with the return of communications, the bug beasts that had mutated due to the radiation began to hide deeper in the caves. The only way to kill them now was to go deeper into the caves. The bigger the hole, the more bug beasts in it. 

It was like they were back to when they first came to this little planet; it wad peaceful and beautiful. The vegetation, destroyed by the storm, was now green again. The land was alive with life.

Luo XiaoLou was almost amazed by the speed at which the plants grew. It was so quick. On Earth, the plants would never have grown so fast. Luo XiaoLou was stunned. When he realized what he was thinking, he felt sad. Earth… Will he ever be able to go back?

“I made you a copy of the material the old man told you to learn. And… I scanned it. Two hundred meters behind this mountain is a large area of a Grade 4 material, Starlover.” When 125 saw no one around, it immediately poked its head out. It also wanted Luo XiaoLou’s help in finding materials to repair it. But it was afraid to ask……

Luo XiaoLou, who had just been a little sad, was delighted. He put his sadness behind him. Grade 4 material… A lot of it? What was that concept — federation coins waiting for him everywhere?

In the direction Luo XiaoLou was heading, a pure black mecha was facing off with two Level 3 mutant bug beasts. 

Just now, the second team had finally completed their mission. Luo ShaoTian made sure the perimeter was clear and left the group. He wanted to check out the other teams.

But Luo ShaoTian was surprised that there were still high level mutants out there! The day before yesterday, he had used up the last of his Grade 4 energy boxes. Now there was a Grade 3 energy box in the mecha and it was only half-full.

Luo ShaoTian looked coldly at the fourteen to fifteen meter tall bug beast in front of him and drew out the long sword. He couldn’t keep using the energy cannon because that would consume even more energy.

Luo XiaoLou was excitedly walking in the direction 125 told him. He had to get there and back soon. Maybe the spaceship that would pick them up would be here soon. Oh… He missed the large jacuzzi in his apartment.

Then Luo XiaoLou turned the corner and saw a black mecha on the ground… All around it was a ghastly display of thick tentacles and bug beasts’ limbs, countless pieces of flesh strewn about.

Luo XiaoLou stopped dead in his tracks. He stared at the mecha. It was a very advanced mecha — so advanced that it was hard to forget what it looked like at first glance.

Luo XiaoLou knew, of course, that inside the mecha was Luo ShaoTian; the last person he wanted to get involved with.

Luo XiaoLou’s hands clenched into fists and he stepped to the other side where there were Grade 4 materials waiting for him. Much cuter than Luo ShaoTian, the materials were much lovelier.

But with every step Luo XiaoLou took, Tian Li’s words rang in his ears.

‘We’ve lasted so many days. It’s all because of our team leader. If he goes down… We’ll all be finished.’

‘Let’s be honest. This training wasn’t for nothing. If I have the chance to do it again, I’ll still work for Team Leader Luo.’

‘He’s got a temper, but… But he’s a real man. By the way, you’re both named Luo. How come you’re so far different?’

Luo XiaoLou stopped dead in his tracks. They really were completely different. 

Luo XiaoLou had no big ambitions since he just wanted to live well. Of course, if he had the chance, he wanted to fight like a man in a mecha. But he didn’t want anything to do with the Luo family as it would only put him in more danger.

This was a training, and so Yuan Xi and Luo ShaoTian would not leave their teammates behind. So he — at least for Tian Li’s sake, he shouldn’t leave this student named Luo ShaoTian here, either.

Luo XiaoLou shut his eyes hard, turned around and walked back.

After a quick check of the mecha first, Luo XiaoLou immediately opened the cockpit.

A head of arrogant silver hair was the first thing that caught his eye, then he saw the blood covering his forehead.

Luo XiaoLou carefully checked the rest of Luo ShaoTian’s body. Except for a large cut on his head, and a badly sprained left wrist, there were no other serious wounds. Luo XiaoLou took a look around. After confirming that there was no danger, Luo XiaoLou struggled to get Luo ShaoTian out of the mecha. He then placed him flat on a large, reasonably clean rock.

Luo XiaoLou rummaged around in Luo ShaoTian’s mecha cockpit, took out the medical device and treated Luo ShaoTian’s wounds. In a few minutes, the wound on his forehead was gone. As for the left wrist, this would take a few days to heal completely unless it was treated at Planet Anse’s top hospital.

Luo ShaoTian’s face was pale, which might be from the blood loss. His brow was furrowed reluctantly and there was a heavy bruise under his eyes. Probably due to the frequent attacks of the bug beasts, most of the students could not rest well.

Confident that Luo ShaoTian would not wake up any time soon, Luo XiaoLou examined his black mecha. Apart from two slight breaks, there was no other damage. Luo XiaoLou had no plans to repair it and besides, he didn’t have that many tools at hand either. The main problem with Luo ShaoTian’s mecha was probably that it was low on energy. 

Luo XiaoLou hesitated for a moment. He asked 125 for a Grade 3 energy box to install into the black mecha — for which 125 blackmailed him with ten premium energy boxes.

Activating the mecha communication system, Luo XiaoLou raised his hand and entered a command. He asked the students from the second group to come over and rescue their team leader. Luo XiaoLou then checked the holographic display. Damn. This mecha is so advanced!

After entering the exact coordinates, Luo XiaoLou hit the send button. Then he quickly flipped out of the mecha and ran in the same direction as he had come from. As he was halfway there, Luo XiaoLou turned back and erased all traces of himself, including the footprints he left. 

Luo XiaoLou then hid behind the rocks. Five minutes later, a number of mecha and students appeared in the distance — the mecha makers who had heard that their team leader had sent a call for help also rushed over.

With this handled, Luo XiaoLou turned around and walked towards where 125 said the Grade 4 materials were growing. 

As Luo XiaoLou turned around, Luo ShaoTian’s eyes slowly opened, and stared with fixation at his disappearing figure. Luo ShaoTian looked for a moment and then fell asleep again.

If this half-brother of his had tried to hurt him, his right hand would have snapped his half-brother’s neck. Even if the lion was napping, it still had power. But the help had no intention of doing so, besides — Luo XiaoLou was too weak.

By the time Luo XiaoLou started checking his mecha, Luo ShaoTian had already opened his eyes and looked at him for a long time. Then he watched Luo XiaoLou work his way up and down the stairs, and sending distress messages through the comm. Since he wasn’t doing it himself, Luo ShaoTian’s communicator which was connected to his own mecha relayed Luo XiaoLou’s message word for word.

Shit. He, Luo ShaoTian, didn’t need to be rescued! This was so humiliating!

But the moment Luo XiaoLou jumped out, Luo ShaoTian, who should have been awake and cursing, closed his eyes again.

As Luo XiaoLou walked away, he wondered if he’d done the right thing. He must have been crazy to save the Luo family. Maybe they hated his guts and they wanted him dead, but Luo ShaoTian’s presence had helped him distract Luo ShaoFan twice before.

Never mind… What’s done was done… What’s there to think about… Pretend he was just sleepwalking. 

However, when he saw that big patch of Starlover… Luo XiaoLou immediately forgot about the incident. He even wanted to cheer. The money!

Luo XiaoLou began to collect the Starlover. He didn’t pick any small ones or the ones that were not well-colored. And so, Luo XiaoLou began to have trouble deciding which bigger ones to take.

Oh, my God. This was a mecha maker’s paradise!

Just then, behind Luo XiaoLou, a soft voice said, “Ah, there’s someone here already.” 

Luo XiaoLou turned to look. His hands stopped moving for a moment and he had only one thought in his mind, ‘Beautiful!’

Behind him was a young man of seventeen or eighteen, about his age, dressed in the uniform of the Mecha Department of the Saint Miro Academy. He had fine features: long, narrow eyes, and long, light-blue hair that was braided behind his back. He was a man, but he was too pretty for a man…

If Yuan Xi’s face was a perfect score, this young man would be a ninety-five. Not to mention his smile, which Yuan Xi didn’t have. Luo XiaoLou couldn’t look away for a moment, and only managed to regain consciousness when 125 complained to him about wiping off his drool.

Only then did he remember that he hadn’t responded to the student’s words. He scratched his hair and greeted, “Hello.” 

The young man came over with a light smile and looked at Luo XiaoLou with a good temper. “So you’re a mecha maker. No wonder you’ve come to such a remote place to gather materials.”

“You’re not here to collect materials?” Luo XiaoLou was surprised too.

“Of course. I came for a walk and just stumbled across this treasure. Hello, I’m Cyril from Mecha Department’s Class 1.” The young man continued the conversation in a friendly manner. He had no intention of competing with Luo XiaoLou for the materials.

“Hello. I’m a Mecha Manufacturing Department student. I’m Luo XiaoLou, Class 10,” Luo XiaoLou said while thinking to himself, is there anyone who didn’t know him as a ‘celebrity’?

“This is my first time seeing you. Do you need any help?” Cyril asked smilingly.

“No need. I’ll just do it myself. These materials are quite rare. As a mecha warrior, you could gather some as well.” Luo XiaoLou suggested.

“Can I?”

“Of course, I can’t take all of it.” Luo XiaoLou said, slightly distressed.

“Thank you for your generosity.” Cyril was persuaded to start collecting at Luo XiaoLou’s side. Even for such a simple act of gathering the materials, Cyril did it with a beautiful elegance. It put to shame Luo XiaoLou, who was almost lying on the ground as he was choosing.

“You can be — so meticulous.” Cyril praised Luo XiaoLou from beside him.

The beauty’s praise was still appreciated by Luo XiaoLou. But — meticulous? Luo XiaoLou looked back. The ground he’d walked on, there was almost nothing on it.

What the hell… 125… You don’t know what it means to leave a seedling to rest, do you? How much of a collector are you?
