Not exaggerated & I have.
If adults want to get in debt/blow all their money on having xx versions of same CD, best concert tickets, all the merch etc, etc, of their favourite whatever, that’s their business. If it makes them happy, no one has the right to criticise/judge.
Not acceptable are those people that expect everyone to be like that, or they aren’t ‘real fans’.
For many it’s a competition too; bragging/having the best. The object of their obsession ends up just that.
