When the work-study program was approved, Shi Yu and two other students were assigned to be librarians. The teacher showed him around the environs of the third floor. “You will be in charge of the third floor during lunch break on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.”

“The students who are allowed to come here are those who need to prepare for the competition, so you can’t come in without a pass.” Then the teacher glanced over like she was looking at some treasure and smiled gently. “The president of your class is the exception. Don’t stop him.”

Shi Yu looked at the boy sitting in the corner for a long time. Really, every teacher loved an honor student.

There were workstations at the door, and Shi Yu registered students as they came by. A blushing girl asked him, “Classmate, can you check President Jiang’s tutoring book for me? Which shelf is it on?”

Shi Yu retrieved it and told the girl. Then there was a second and a third, all asking questions about Jiang ChengLi.

Shi Yu was solving a chemistry problem and was distracted by the frequent interruptions. “I don’t know when he’s coming and I don’t know where he usually sits.”

The girl in front of him wanted to say something, but behind her came a soft and muted male voice, “I’m returning a book.”

Jiang ChengLi’s slender fingertips rested on a chemistry book and pushed it forward slightly. “I need a physics book.”

The girl had never been close to Jiang ChengLi. When she saw the real person, she did not dare to say anything, just ran away with a red face.

Well, here comes the culprit.

Shi Yu ignored Jiang ChengLi, put the book on the return cart next door, then reluctantly helped him find his other book.

Jiang ChengLi gazed at the corners of his slightly drooping eyes and asked carelessly, “Not happy?”

Shi Yu’s voice was low and slurred, and if Jian ChengLi listened carefully, he could pick out the grumbling hidden in it. “I’m stuck on chemistry.”

Jiang ChengLi picked up the pen and asked, “Can I write?”

Shi Yu was slightly stunned, nodded. “Mn.”

“Let the amount of substance of water be 1 ml…” Jiang ChengLi’s voice was good. When he talked about the problem it was easy to understand and Shi Yu could easily calculate the answer.

Shi Yu’s eyes were slightly bright. That little bit of surprise in his beautiful eyes couldn’t be hidden and he felt a glimmer of hope after conquering the problem.

Shi Yu often gave off the impression that he was someone with a severely hardened heart but he was actually a bit of a silly, foolish child.

Jiang ChengLi lowered his eyes. “Then can you help me find the book?”

“Yes,” Shi Yu screened the book list, tore a small strip of paper to write down three locations. “All here.”

Jiang ChengLi took the slip of paper. The omega’s writing was like him, lean and handsome; pleasing to the eye.

“Thanks.”

“By the way, how is your wound?” Shi Yu asked tentatively as he stood there. He still remembered the bite he accidentally took on the stairs.

Jiang ChengLi thought for a moment. “I got vaccinated.”

Shi Yu, “…”

President Jiang, you are so obnoxious. Do your fangirls know?

When Shi Yu finished packing up his things, Jiang ChengLi put his books away and they went downstairs together. Shi Yu was not too happy about the vaccine comment just now, and was walking behind Jiang ChengLi without saying a word, hoping he would hurry up and disappear.

Jiang ChengLi turned around lazily. “Where do you live now?”

Shi Yu didn’t expect such a question out of nowhere. “What?”

“Lian ZiJin said you ran away from home.”

Shi Yu grunted. Lian ZiJin seemed uncomfortable going a single day without spreading rumors about him. “Staying at a friend’s house.”

“The director said…” Jiang ChengLi’s voice stopped at the sight of Lian ZiJin’s back on the stairway.

Lian ZiJin was waiting for Shi Yu, and when he heard footsteps he put on a pleasing face, but when he realized it was Jiang ChengLi he froze.

Jiang ChengLi usually went to the library?

Shi Yu did not look at him and turned to leave.

“Shi Yu!” Lian ZiJin did not care who was present, just stepped forward to stop him. “You, you do not leave. I…I’m here to apologize to you.”

Shi Yu frowned. What was wrong with this person?

“It’s true that I misunderstood you before and I feel very sorry for causing you so much trouble.” Lian ZiJin lowered his eyebrows and said sincerely. “I’m also sorry for what happened to Zhong Tan’s family before. I’ve already reflected on it seriously. Can you…can you…come home?”

The day he could see Lian ZiJin not threatening him but apologizing in a low voice, was astonishing news. After all, this man was usually more cross than a wild dog.

Jiang ChengLi stood behind Shi Yu with bland eyes. Lian ZiJin acted a little unnatural under his seemingly absent gaze before he spoke, “President Jiang is here too?”

Jiang ChengLi said in a light voice, “You’re in the way.”

Only then did Lian ZiJin look embarrassed and move aside.

Shi Yu followed Jiang ChengLi like a remora, saying in a serious manner, “The president is helping me, aren’t you teaching me chemistry?”

This was a clever excuse. Jiang ChengLi raised his eyes slightly, did not say anything and let him follow at his side.

Lian ZiJin stood still for a long time. After he realized what he had witnessed, he gritted his teeth and stared viciously at the stairway. “How dare you go out of your way to hook up with Jiang ChengLi…Bitch.”

*

Lian ZiJin’s change of heart came so suddenly that not only Jiang ChengLi, but also A2 and A1 noticed it. After all, he was the one who had said Shi Yu was guilty, and now he was going around clarifying and saying he was worried about Shi Yu.

Li Chen looked odd. “I suspect Lian ZiJin has been eating the wrong things lately. He actually asked the Omega Class teacher about Shi Yu today, saying that Shi Yu hadn’t come home for days and he was concerned.”

Jiang ChengLi held a mint candy. There was a wind that ruffled through the window and a little coolness seeped through the alpha. “And then?”

“His homeroom teacher said she would talk to Shi Yu privately. It’s really fucking weird. Is Lian ZiJin possessed or under a spell?” The more Li Chen said, the more horrified he was. “He could have seen Shi Yu’s transformation into an omega, and now he has an evil intention, right?”

Jiang ChengLi did not say anything as he looked downstairs.

Lian ZiJin waited for Shi Yu, who had just returned from somewhere. He was carrying a bag in his hand that he seemed to want to give to him. Shi Yu ignored him, just him passing by at first, but Lian ZiJin pestered him like a dog’s skin. Not knowing what to say, Shi Yu stood still.

Jiang ChengLi had unlocked a new expression of the omega.

If Shi Yu had looked at Lian ZiJin’s eyes like a roadside sheep dung ball before, now it was like a choking stone. The omega’s eyes were fierce and cold. The corners of his lips weren’t changing, but Jiang ChengLi felt as if he was seeing his inner cat grimacing.

Lian ZiJin also sensed that something was wrong. He folded his hands and apologized sincerely, and held up the things in his hand again.

Shi Yu gave a cold glance, accepted it and left.

Seeing Lian ZiJin smiling smugly, Jiang ChengLi’s eyes darkened slightly.

Shi Yu did not know that there were people who witnessed the whole thing. His mind was stirred up a bit by Lian ZiJin’s words. Lian ZiJin said that his mother had called for him, hoping that he could make a trip back to Lian’s house.

In the original owner’s memory, he had lived in the Lian family for as long as he could remember, and was ‘abandoned.’ His biological parents hadn’t contacted him for so many years. The reason for this was that Lian ZiJin’s attitude had changed drastically since he found out that he had become an omega.

Shi Yu hesitated, then sent a message to Zhong Tan.

Afterwards, he received a reply, “Hiss, if it’s really your parents looking for you, that’s good. After all, if you are still in the Lian family’s account book…It’s trouble.”

Shi Yu sat on the workbench on the third floor of the library, pondering how to reply.

“Desertion?” The unemotional male voice fell on the top of his head.

Like a dazed kitten whose tail was suddenly touched, Shi Yu looked up sharply at the person in front of him.

Jiang ChengLi put down the exercise book in his hand. “Are you scared?”

“No.” He grabbed the pen on the desk and haphazardly began to write on the test paper. “Returning the book?”

“The chemical compounds are wrong.” Jiang ChengLi told him.

Shi Yu’s fingertips stiffened and he blocked what he had just written with his hand. “Give me the book you want to return.”

Jiang ChengLi smiled and handed him the book. Shi Yu found a pen pinned to it when he was finishing up. He took it off and handed it over. “Pen.”

Jiang ChengLi didn’t accept it, just asked, “Lian ZiJin is looking for you?”

“Yes. Crazy as hell.” Shi Yu said gloomily.

Jiang ChengLi took the pen and wrote a series of numbers in Shi Yu’s sketchbook.

Shi Yu, “?”

“The school has assigned a person in charge of the students who participate in the work-study program, and I am in charge of you.” Jiang ChengLi put the lid on the pen. “Add me on WeChat.”

Shi Yu ‘oh’d’. Seeing he wasn’t going, he pulled out his phone and added the number.

“You can call me if you need anything.” Jiang ChengLi’s voice was three times softer than usual. “Especially if there are topics that you can’t understand.”

Shi Yu drooped his eyes. “…President Jiang is so busy, so I won’t bother.”

Jiang ChengLi spun his pen. “I’m leaving.”

After he was gone, Shi Yu sat on the workbench for a while. He found out that Jiang ChengLi’s avatar was a white dumpling. He clicked on it and realized the little dumpling was a white cat. The photo was taken when he was drowsing by the balcony like a glutinous rice dumpling.

Shi Yu was just wondering if the cat was raised by Jiang ChengLi or was it an online picture, when a phone call came.

It was Mr. Lian’s number.

Mr. Lian was always busy and hardly spent much time at Lian’s house. Shi Yu was instinctively nervous when he saw the number. He picked up. The male voice was cold. “Come home, your mother wants to see you.”

The author has something to say.

Thank you very much for your support, I will continue to work hard!

Oh no! Can’t Shi Yu tell it’s a trap? I worry that if he goes to the Liam house they will do something very bad to him, like try to traffic him…. 😬

This really is a great novel. I’m anxious to know why his foster family all of a sudden want him back. A little suspense is always good. Thank you for your hard work.
