it actually makes me so sad bc of how jiang cheng and wei yings relationship dissolved over the years, like look at how they were: having “fights” and making up easily, being playful, and wei ying even planned for them to work together in their own sect; which jiang cheng looked forward to… which evolved to jiang chengs first instinct is to kill him knowing he was alive again. their relationship seriously makes me the saddest reading all over again, especially watching the tv series. 🙁

I’ve been thinking a lot about what Jiang FengMian meant by understanding the motto of ‘attempt the impossible’, and based on this exchange I think it means that he wants them to do the right thing, even if it seems to be impossible. Not that he wants them to do reckless crazy things for no reason. But even if protecting some random people from being bullied by the Wen Clan seems impossible, you should still try to do it, because it’s the right thing. JFM is in many ways responsible for sowing the rift between his two sons. A father must love all of his children equally regardless of their differences. There is no justification for his complete indifference (if not disdain) for his biological son and daughter simply because he dislikes his wife. And for the matter, the extreme preference for an adopted son is abnormal and unhealthy even by the standards of today.
