Mecha Chapter 63: Accident

The two men came out. Yates was in a cold sweat when they pulled him out of Knight. He looked like shit and was still barely conscious. Seeing that Luo XiaoLou and Yuan Xi were okay, he gave them a stupid smile and completely fainted.

Yuan Xi laid Yates down and examined him fully. Finally he said, “His ribs are broken. The first-aid medicine you gave him earlier will help to some extent but it’s not enough.”

 Yuan Xi took out the first-aid device and activated it. He scanned Yates’s abdomen for two minutes and as he did, Yate’s face improved.

“Let’s get him out of the cave. We’ll wait until he’s ready to drive the mecha before we leave the asteroid.” Yuan Xi frowned. At this rate they wouldn’t be able to leave until evening at the earliest.

Luo XiaoLou walked over and collected Knight with a familiar gesture. As Yuan Xi picked up Yates, he watched Luo XiaoLou’s practiced movements with eyebrows raised, and a look of confusion and thoughtfulness.

Luo XiaoLou was unaccountably guilty. But in the next second, he found himself subconsciously helping Yuan Xi with his untidy clothes. It was a habit he had picked up at home. Luo XiaoLou would tidy up the house and couldn’t see past the mess, so he would help his cohabitant to clean up after him.

Then Yuan Xi called out Cloudy Sky and immediately left after quickly replacing the mecha’s energy box. Cloudy Sky still had some scars but this made it look more like a battlefield hero.

The fog was moving in all directions and seemed to have a consciousness of its own as it surrounded them.

And that’s when there was a scream that sounded from the fog. 

A woman’s scream, too. Helpless and desperate.

Finally, the fog receded to a more marginal point and a large clearing was revealed. They saw an astonishing sight of a group of oddly costumed men confronting a giant mutant beast. Or being slaughtered by it, to be more precise.

It was not quite as monstrous as the one they encountered at the bottom of the cave, but it was also huge and should have reached Level 6.

The people who were being chased by the beast were not bad, but they were clearly no match for a Level 6 mutant. What was surprising was that they didn’t have a mecha. They used and relied solely on ancient weapons.

Not long after, a man screamed and was thrown to the ground by the mutant bug beast. The beast had a bloody arm hanging from its paw. It was a sight to behold. The group retreated in panic as they fought off the beast. There were women, children and old people among them. Some saw the tall mecha at the entrance of the cave and, after a bit of hesitation, cried out for help as they ran towards the cave.

Yuan Xi took a step forward then blocked the entrance before warning, “Stop moving. Take one more step and I will open fire. Who are you people?”

The man at the front who had come running, froze. After a few seconds, a girl in white came forward, crying as she fell to the ground, “We are the original inhabitants of this planet. We didn’t want to meet you. But today we were chased here by the bug beast. We were forced to reveal our identity. Please save us.”

The white mecha flashed but it didn’t budge. Then, an old man came out of the crowd. “This hero,” he said, “beasts are greedy and evil. It will kill us all. It will not spare you and your companions. Please join us in killing the beast. The people of Windy Gulch will never forget the kindness you give us.”

Yuan Xi was actually checking Cloudy Sky’s status. Of course, he could see that the humans in front of him, with only ancient martial arts, were no match for the bug beast. But the wounded Cloudy Sky was barely able to kill a Level 6 bug beast. However, when he heard the old man’s proposal, Yuan Xi was very impressed.

After a moment of silence, a cold voice came out from the mecha, “I will help you kill the bug beast. But until I return, all of you must not come within ten meters of the cave entrance.”

The old man said, “Don’t worry, hero. As long as you can help, we will absolutely obey your orders.”

Yuan Xi set up a barrier at the mouth of the cave and then flew the skies towards the bug beast. With Cloudy Sky, the battle was immediately reversed. Some of the best Windy Gulch men held the beast at bay, while Yuan Xi attacked.

The army didn’t find these aborigines, so Yuan Xi never thought that they were as weak as they looked.

Yuan Xi didn’t shut Cloudy Sky even after getting down from it. When he landed, a dozen old men came out of the crowd, mouths agape with words of thanks. They stared at Yuan Xi with unblinking eyes.

Almost instantly, Yuan Xi stopped. Raising his eyes to the leader, he looked sternly at the old man whose hands went to his waist.

He did not expect that Yuan Xi would notice so quickly. Cold sweat broke out on the leader’s face. He clenched his teeth and his eyes grew brighter. They turned a pale gray.

Someone in the crowd shouted, “Chief!” However, the man’s mouth was immediately covered. The people around him were silent and they all looked at the old man anxiously.

The dozen or so old men looked at the patriarch. Their faces went from pale to red, and their eyes grew brighter…

Yuan Xi’s movements slowed. He looked straight ahead, bewildered, until a bell was rung. Yuan Xi’s eyes slowly turned to the approaching girl. His hands had fallen to his side.

The sky-blue curls on the girl’s head had all fallen away. She had fair skin and her features were delicate. Although her clothes were a little strange, there was no hiding the pure and gentle beauty, like the most beautiful dewdrop in the morning.

“I’m Leia,” she said. “The person you love the most.”

Yuan Xi blinked. Confusion was replaced by enthusiasm and he smiled brightly, “Yes. You’re the one I love the most. You’re my favorite person.” His hands seemed to have a mind of their own again. He held the girl in his arms and then he looked at her expectantly.

The two of them drew closer and closer, and as they were about to kiss… Yuan Xi looked at her quizzically. Concerned, he asked, “What’s the matter with you? Obviously you would reject me before?!”

The old people around them seemed to have aged a dozen years in an instant. Some were barely hanging on and some were already paralyzed.

People scrambled to help the patriarch. The old man gasped for breath, and exclaimed, “I never thought a warrior’s spirit would resist. We… Fifteen of us have mobilized all our Spiritual Power. I’m afraid most of us will be useless from now on. Moreover, we also sacrificed a Level 6 bug beast. Hey… Leia! Take him back to the Windy Gulch.”

Leia pulled Yuan Xi onto the bird’s back and clapped her hands. The bird rose into the air.

Yuan Xi smiled, “This is nice.”

And the others begin to whistle as well. There was a flap of wings and a thousand more birds took off, carrying them.

In the fog, there was a man on a bird’s back who looked like he was growing out of it. They formed a strange shadow of a man’s head and a bird’s body.

The birds finally landed in the Windy Gulch and were greeted by many more people in the same clothing. When they saw Yuan Xi, who was riding with Leia on the bird, their faces were filled with joy and happiness. There were looks of joy and despair on some of the faces of the people.

Leia walked down with her arm on Yuan Xi. “These are my people,” she said softly. “Say hello to them.”

As soon as Yuan Xi took his eyes off Leia’s face. He immediately regained his sense of superiority. He took a look around and after a moment, he said, “Hello, everyone. I’m Yuan Xi.”

The men from earlier had also arrived one after another. The patriarch was helped down and, gasping for breath, he said, “Take the others who are injured to the priest first. The rest of you… Prepare them immediately. Make sure they are married the next day.”

Yuan Xi turned back to look around for something. Then Leia tugged on Yuan Xi’s sleeve and said, “Darling, we need to get ready, too.”

Yuan Xi regained consciousness for a moment. He asked, “What do we need to get ready for?”

Leia’s eyes darkened. After a moment of silence, she said, “Of course, the wedding.”

A man was smiling at him. “Are you feeling better?” he asked.

I’ve got good news for you. I’m getting married! I felt I had to share this with you! You’re happy for me too, aren’t you?”

Luo XiaoLou looked at Yuan Xi dumbfoundedly.
