Mecha Chapter 90: Win or Lose

By the time Luo XiaoLou arrived at the private training rooms at Radiance, it was already past lunchtime, and he went directly to Yuan Xi’s special training room. The receptionist had probably received instructions from Yuan Xi, and when she saw Luo XiaoLou, she escorted him to the training room.

When Luo XiaoLou entered, he found two strange middle-aged men sitting there, one of whom took one look at Luo XiaoLou as he entered and returned to tensely watch the screen of the lounge.

Outside, the two mecha, one white and one grey, quickly approached, then separated, and then they stopped.

Luo XiaoLou shivered, and was silent for two seconds, before quickly changing the subject and asking, “That – don’t you – don’t you want your other half to be a powerful mecha warrior?”

Yuan Xi glanced at him, as if dismissing Luo XiaoLou’s question as redundant, “Do you want to? You’re my other half. What do I expect? Didn’t I tell you I’d put up with you? You don’t have to be so self-conscious. Just keep up the house, do the laundry, cook fish and buy me cakes every day. Preferably let me do it more than once a night, and be good and scream when you’re coming instead of biting me every time. People see the marks you leave on me every time we exercise, so I’m embarrassed about that too. Well, I haven’t thought of anything else yet, I’ll keep you informed if I have any.”

“Then thank you very much for your magnanimity…” Luo XiaoLou looked at Yuan Xi with contempt. He didn’t look like he was in a dilemma at all that way! It’s hard to understand why you don’t use the healing device every time…

Todd gritted his teeth behind him before turning to head to Luca’s training room. He normally wouldn’t see Luca. Luca had too much energy invested in other things right now, and his ability to maintain the level of his fifth set was only the result of daily workouts.

Seeing the rare occasion of his trainer coming over, Luca got out of the mecha.

Todd took Luca’s hand in his fat palm with the jeweled ring and smiled, “It’s so rare that you’re still working out. I came over to say a few words to you. You’re going to win tomorrow’s matchup right?”

Luca frowned and snorted disdainfully, “Of course! A little mouse of that level wouldn’t make any trouble for me. I can settle the battle in three minutes.”

Todd smiled with satisfaction and said, “Mn, I have faith in you. Also, I came to tell you that if you win, win easily. Have a few more rounds with that newb who dares to openly challenge you, and also teach him the techniques that his trainer didn’t.”

Luca immediately understood what Todd meant and the corners of his mouth lifted, “You’ll be hearing good news from me.”

Todd nodded, “By the way, I’m all in on you winning.”

Luca smiled, “Please don’t worry.”

Because of the thoughtful rendering, quite a few people in the middle and lower groups now knew about tomorrow’s match, and there were even people who opened a betting game to place a bet on Luca to win at odds of one to one, and on Luo XiaoLou to win at odds of one to fifty. And because the outcome of the match was so clear, most people took part in the bet where Luca won in the first few minutes.

 

On Saturday, Luo XiaoLou was reluctant to give up his chance to learn, so he didn’t take the day off from Master Yan. After work at five o’clock, he packed his things to go to the fight.

He thought he wouldn’t be nervous after all the preparation and psychological building, but after seeing so many spectators around him, he still gulped down his saliva and his hands and feet trembled a bit. This was a travesty! No one even dared to watch that day when Yuan Xi was competing with the others.

125 shouted in his ear, “Go ahead. You’re my fosterer, and you’re going to avenge me! Rush up there and trample him underfoot.”

Luo XiaoLou blinked and shuddered again.

125 chanted for two seconds and finally said in a deep voice, “There’s still twenty million…”

Luo XiaoLou took a deep breath, and tried to keep his feet steady as he walked towards the strapping blue quirky mecha beside him, then climbed into the cockpit in slow motion to the jeers of everyone.

Luca smirked and pounced in the direction of Luo XiaoLou in the mecha the second the ref said start.

Rocky was relieved when the blue mecha took off into the sky. Coach Rocky’s worried eyes looked on. Immediately after, however, Luca’s mecha spun on one foot midway, and in a flash of brown light, the blue mecha had flown away. Luca’s mecha kicked right at the cockpit, and Luo XiaoLou was so confused that it was too late to enter commands. The blue mecha collapsed on its entire back onto the arena in a huge shock.

Luca smiled coldly, and when he saw the referee preparing to raise his hand to declare him victorious, he suddenly shouted, “521, you shouldn’t be such a coward. Get up and continue!” 

Daring to compete with me, it’s time to teach you a big lesson. And by the way, you can also kill the chicken as a warning to others.

As soon as Luca spoke, the referee shut his mouth again. Daring to compete with newcomers in the challenge so blatantly, Luca naturally put a lot of effort into the people within the challenge. Only if you are willing to put in, will you have a greater profit – Luca understands this truth.

The spectators thought the Blue Mecha would fly out again, some were even ready to cheer, one or two had already called out Luca for being awesome. But the blue mecha turned around and was already standing two meters away. The brown mecha almost ran right up against the edge. Luca himself thought he would kick Luo XiaoLou 100%, so he had been ready to use the blue mecha’s reflexes to back away without giving a second command.

So after kicking the air, the brown mecha braked from moving forward and flew over. Luo XiaoLou was mentally prepared for this, so as if he was in the middle of a speed training session, he drove 125 in the air, tossing it left and right.

No one in the audience was cheering anymore. They really hadn’t expected Luca to be fast, or for Luo XiaoLou to be just as fast, or even faster. The blue mecha looked to have no trouble dodging all of Luca’s later attacks.

Coach Rocky was thoroughly relieved, while Coach Todd, who was deliberately sitting next to him so he could be sarcastic, didn’t look too good. He was just telling Luca to teach that kid a lesson and embarrass Rocky. A prolonged fight wasn’t what he wanted. What the hell was Luca doing?

Luca’s heart was full of bitterness now. Who knew that this kid, after he stood up, would become so fast and slippery that he couldn’t be caught by anyone quickly.

After ten minutes, he had attacked no less than a hundred times, but Luo XiaoLou had dodged them all. Even when it almost hit him sometimes, he was able to escape from a tricky angle.

Over time, Luca started to become irritated. If he had known it would be like this earlier, it would have been better to have the referee declare him the winner at the beginning of the match.

The people in the stands were beginning to frown as well. Luca couldn’t catch up with Luo XiaoLou, but Luo XiaoLou didn’t seem to be doing anything more than running away, so how was the fight going to be decided?

Once again, Luca couldn’t hold back and yelled at Luo XiaoLou, “521, don’t you dare duel me openly but just keep fleeing like this. It’s worse than a brainless insect beast!”

Rocky gripped the fence hard and kept a close eye on the field. Luo XiaoLou now was just keeping his speed advantage, but if Luca excited him into fighting him at close range, the advantage would all be gone.

To his relief, Luo XiaoLou wasn’t hot-headed. Whether it was Luca’s yelling or the sarcasm of the people around him, he ignored all of it and still circled around Luca from afar, and Luca couldn’t get close to him, dead or alive. 

“Analysis done?” 125 asked.

Luo XiaoLou hmmmed, then a faint Source of Consciousness was released, and the particle gun on his shoulder fired as he dodged Luca yet again.

A lot of people started to comment again. This was really the only time a fighter had attacked so late in the game against a fighter. They then waited for Luca’s more flashy counterattack, however, the brown mecha had landed on the ground and didn’t move. It wasn’t until the blue mecha waved his hand at the referee that the referee recovered from his daze and announced, “Luca vs. 521, 521 wins.”

The crowd was silent after the loud announcement of the result. That newbie had won? What kind of joke was this? He even only pretended to take one shot! The kid didn’t bribe the ref for tens of millions, did he?

Luo XiaoLou got out of the cockpit of 125, then waved around and smiled, “Although the results were a bit surprising, I’d like to thank my coach, Coach Rocky, for his inspirational guidance.”

Coach Rocky stood up excitedly, glanced at the stunned Coach Todd beside him, and headed for the side room where Luo XiaoLou was supposed to be after the game.

“We’re not convinced! How could Luca lose? When did he lose?!” There were still people questioning angrily and they couldn’t help but be angry, knowing that a lot of people put their bets on Luca. They wouldn’t agree with the outcome of this match if the Radiant referee was united with Luo XiaoLou and the person who opened the bet for money.

The referee calmly nodded around at this point, then pointed his finger towards the large screen, which was showing a close-up of Luca’s mecha. This close-up slowly zoomed in until it was focused on the cockpit. Magnifying the screen several times, one could clearly see a bullet hole and then a red line penetrating through the hole and hitting Luca’s console, which was simulating the trajectory of Luo XiaoLou’s bullet.

The people in the audience grew quiet, the facts were there. Luo XiaoLou had won on his own merit.

After a few seconds, someone shouted, “He hit the energy switch!”

The crowd was in an uproar, not sure if it was accidental or coincidence that after hitting the energy switch, the mecha’s entire body would automatically stop supplying energy and couldn’t start up again at all.

Some speculated that it was luck, while others looked at that bullet hole and didn’t say anything.

Luo XiaoLou didn’t move after hitting the switch, which meant he was sure he would win.

He even fired three bullets to make sure they pierced the cockpit, one may have only seen the one that hit the energy switch, but the other two, one on the field and one in the corner of the interior of Luca’s Mecha, could be seen.

The people in the audience talked about it.

“One hit…”

“Looks like the newbie is good too.”

“Although he’s good at escaping, he’s also good at Long Distance fighting.”

After this match with Luca, Luo XiaoLou could be said to have become famous. At least Luca’s people didn’t dare to trouble him anymore. Luca had enough trouble of his own, at least those who bought his win were very upset with him.

Because of Luo XiaoLou’s idea, 125 kept wagging his big tail in Luo XiaoLou’s arms, but when he heard the last part, he suddenly felt that something was wrong and finally interrupted Luo XiaoLou and said, “Hey, it’s nice to steal the marriage drama, but shouldn’t you two change your positions? “
