With extra chapters for side characters in novels, do you prefer them to be kept as extras at the end of the novel so you can skip them or for them to be mixed into the novel in chronological order?
Addis’ Answer: A good example of the side characters’ stories being intertwined would be Interstellar Rare Species. I personally like them depending on the characters. Some side characters I really give no sh*ts about.
Like Addis, for me, it depends. If the chapter has a cliffhanger and you give me an extra after that, there’s going to be murder! Otherwise, I do prefer chronological order for extra.
Depending on the importance of side characters I prefer extras for them. Sometimes I feel side characters have more chemistry so I want to have chapters for of them chronologically in the novel.
It really depends on the character and whether or not the side story helps the main story in some way.
If the side story of the supporting character(s) impacts on the main plot, then I like it intertwined.
If it’s purely to enhance supporting characters in themselves (where they’ve become popular, or featured quite heavily), then as additional chapters works better for me.
I prefer extras unless it’s related integrally to the main story or I’m really In love with the side characters for some reason 🙂
extras! easier to determine if I want to read it or not and it won’t interfere with enjoying the main cp. but I love it when they’re hinted throughout the story (if it’s side character’s cp) or when the extras are like a rewrite but of the side character’s POV
I like reading a few paragraphs about side couples. Fill on chapters should stay at the end. Unless it’s completely intracul to the plot. Like a car crash or other accident involves the MC somehow.
I’m def’ with everyone else and says it depends on the characters and the stories. I’ll go a step further and say it depends on the author as well.
Chronological placed is best. Especially if the novel is 150+ chapters.
I might not remember what exactly was going on at that time with that character if I have to read till the end.
Depending on how strong of the side character(s) in the story. The sequel would be good too if the character was very strong.
It actually depends, but most of the time I like it at the end because sometimes it disrupts my reading of the main characters.
