side characters can be lesbian, straight, another bl couple, asexual, whatever. as long as the characters can support the main story/couple then it’s good.

No. If the orientation of the side characters mean that much to the main story, it’s a sign the main story isn’t that great and whatever lacking those side characters are filling to make it seem improved should be addressed. Only well written side characters are needed to make a story better.

I don’t think so, it’s kind of too focused in the same sex love by the writer especially if the side character was too much involved in the story line. I want to feel something special about the main story and the protagonist (s).

However, if characters fit a story, they are part of it and that is different, it works; but if thrown in for the sake of it, no.
BL is BL, but a reality type story, set in a modern society, would hopefully include side characters/ friends that were straight and/or LGBTQ, too. Like in real life.
